Yeah, and the one I’ve experienced a few times - say an item costs $15.50, you hand over $20.50 so you can get a $5 note back instead of coins. Doesn’t that cause some confusion. They seem to be thinking “why is he giving me this 50 cent coin?”
Makes you wonder what these kids get taught at school. It’s certainly not basic arithmetic.
I think that we all have plenty of stories regarding this scenario, which is both hilarious and disappointing at the same time, making you wonder about our future as you walk off with a big pocket full of shrapnel!
I’m on the other side of the counter, I’ll watch ppl pull out cash to pay for something and before they’ve figured out what they need I’ve already counted all the find they have and what would be the most effective user so they get less coins back, cause they always complain about them, and I’m just standing there fidgeting waiting for them too catch up, and this ranges from young to old.
Sometimes they’re struggling so I just tell them to put everything on the counter and I’ll work it out.
And I’ll say to them " I’ll work it out so you get less shrapnel", so I still use that term at least.
Also do these kids not realise they can just enter the amount given and the POS will tell them exactly how much change to give…
Absolutely… it used to be either “shrapnel” or “shekels” for me, but seeing as how the New Shekel’s the official currency of Israel I tend to favour shrapnel these days in the name of political correctness.
Had to ask the question as I didn’t know if it was just a family or Western Australian specific term.
Always remember the old man saying “there’s plenty of shrapnel in the Console if ya need it”, and is a term I’ve used my whole life, but many people give you a weird look when using the term these days.
Anyone still dealing with Vipertac (the one eyed snake)?
Personally I was never really fond of them - my first dealings was with a tubby neckbeard back 4 years ago who had the personality of a damp cardboard box (with a beard) and gave the impression just turning up to work was a major struggle.
Another thing that irked me was the owner overtly touting his VETERAN status to help promote the business - I’m a veteran myself, and even after talking to him in person he gave me the impression of being up himself with his subtle or overt (depending on his mood) 1-upmanship, smarmy replies at semi Walter Mitty level. Also when E&C stock first came in through X-Force, the owner claimed he would never import their products (due to ‘unethical pricing’ from the supplier or some crap), yet only two weeks later he brings in their stock at reduced prices - Talk about maintaining a strong sense of conviction, oh wise one
The only thing they cornered the market was Cytac holsters (a more upmarket version of Amomax) that no other retailers stocked. The rest frankly nothing special at all. I know they were constantly trying to compete with X-Force - Given they were next door to each other before moving down the road.
They claim they their brick and mortar store closed down (with rather exclusive conflicting reasons I might add) - First it was the property owners refusing lease renewal, then it was wanting to relocate up north, then it was due to staffing issues (not surprising) etc. But overall to me it was the fact the business couldn’t compete any longer with X-Force, and they were seriously losing traction with customers due to failure to deliver on quality and overall service. I know they still maintain an online service, but frankly I don’t see that lasting too long either.
Either way, I was glad to see the store close down, as I felt they were very overhyped and failed to deliver products on numerous occassions when I sourced request.
I bought a Mac 10 v2 from them online on sale for $100 and had it shipped to me, was one of the first blasters I ever bought
Had a feeding issue so I emailed them and drove it back there to get it looked at under warranty
The young bloke in there checked it out and discovered the issue but required disassembly to fix it so he gave me the other one they had in stock as a replacement and demonstrated it working properly before I left
Occasionally has the odd feeding issue from time to time but I think it’s more gel size related now
Aside from the long ass drive up there and back, about an hr and a half there and the same back, the experience and customer service was great, the issue was rectified so I can’t really fault them
Well I’m.not a retailer anymore… but I know what you’re saying! There is no gel retailer I haven’t been a customer for, and when I worked for a retailer I can name many times the customer was a prick so I am very aware of both sides of the counter.
I do feel that every retailer offers something, and I don’t wish any of them to fail, quite the opposite actually. The hobby and sport gains strength in numbers.
Viper tac, I had one visit to when they had the store.
They remain the only gel store where I’ve had a negative experience at. All I will say is I definitetly only support them out of urgent necessity.
I have since bought from them twice online, again as I needed a part and nowhere else had them at the time. For that I am grateful however I definitely prefer to shop elsewhere.
