As long as I get called Sir and very sorry about that. Yea something be fkn sorry in a minute
It’s because plastic BB’s come out easier and have the internal hop unit.
Don’t need so much joules to force them out.
Why converted ones try get full metal ladder for gel balls as an early upgrade because the gears against the rack shit the bed if they are plastic. Where as Airsoft will be fine and reduces the weight on the rotating mass.
Hope that makes sense anyway. Clear as mud
The M14 v the M1A was just a civilian version of the M14. Just a name. Still the same socks and shoes.
I watched that youtube ages ago seemed pretty happy with it. Likely just got around to gel ball conversion then the import.
The main reason for plastic pistons is ease of repair, and safe breakage. Also quieter so the thing sounds a little higher quality than it is.
Airsoft also use a LOT less full auto, so plastic will actually last a while, where we will probably shred them in a day or two out… or a couple mags LOL.
If something goes wrong, or some moron uses the trigger to clear a jam, this piston will shred, leaving the gears and bushings intact. They are very cheap and quick to replace.
Much quicker than shimming a set of new gears!
And yes cheap is the main factor here. As @BME says, over several thousand units it is noticeably cheaper to manufacture. I would argue I would be happy to pay the extra dollar or ten, to have a metal rack… but then they would use a cast ladder POS that breaks anyway… so just send it with plastic and I will do it anyway!
You’re all in for a treat too… M14s are not something a beginner would enjoy pull working on!
And if they have a plastic piston… they are going to be needing it after a couple of games because we all know… gel isn’t accurate enough for semi outdoors! Especially with under volumed long barrels!
