Hi all.
I have purchased a aap01 pistol (the Ruger 22/45 looking version). I have a speed loader but can not load the gels into the magazine via the speed loader into the gap in the lower portion of the mag face as the mag edges are to narrow so I have been loading it by the top (lik real steel). I can load thru the gap in the mag face but it is slow and I need to use my thumb to push the balls into the magazine one by one and gently so they don’t shred or get damaged in the process.
Is there a trick to loading these mags at speed with the speed loader?
The mag (first magazine pictured) I have does not have the circle cut into the mag face like the 2nd magazine does and the gap is too small to fit balls thru with out thumb/finger pressure. Any one with an aap01, how do you load your mags.
So the first mag, the gap widens at the bottom instead of having a “hole”, seeing as the gels would be getting compressed into the narrow slotted section once released.
It’s not advised trying to load the gels from the feed lips as they’ll just get sliced or break, as you’ve pointed out. There’s no real fast way of loading these.
It’s a matter of pulling the follower down and using the speedloader to insert gels thru the gap, tilting the mag (top downwards) can help with insertion too.
Some mags are easier than others with different follower designs and slot design.
There’s also plenty of 3D printed tool designs available that could help too.
Easiest fix is to remove the mag base, pull out the follower and spring and dremel a wider section or a round hole into the front slot like the second mag just above where the follower bottoms out.
Maybe what you’ve got there is sized more for airsoft.
I was wondering if it was maybe an airsoft mag that slipped in. When the young lad behind the counter got the box with the pistol in it there was no mag in the box and he went under the counter and pulled one out. Hopefully it was the right mag lol.
With the follower pulled all the way down my calipers were reading 6.11mm to 6.14mm at the point in the mag face gap just above where the follower stops where a ball would most likely be placed in. This was the widest part of the gap when follower is all the way down.
I have a few diamond coated drill bits from 6 to 10mm in diameter that should be able to do a neat round hole in the mag, I may get a few spare mags and then give it a go.
Its satisfying when you can solve a problem with a new toy to make it function smoother or simply function how it should lol.
Bugger, was hoping I was just old n dumb and someone would point out my flaws and it would be a simple fix lol.
Any one out there with a AA aap01 mag that can measure the gap just above where the follower stops when it is dragged all the way down. Be interesting to see what measurements others get.
I know some of the conversion GBB pistols Armoured Heaven were selling had the magazines modified to fit 7.5mm gels… milled out the slot and widened the filling aperture.
I can vouch for the fact that they didn’t always get it right.
For the measurements, the retaining gap is 5.2mm and the opening to fill is 7.3mm on my AAP mag. Mine the type that widens at the bottom rather than having a circle drilled out too.
