Besterest Glow Gels

Hi Brainstrust,

The kids are starting to get into night games. Just wondering what the general consensus is on the best glow gels?

Blasters range from 230 to 330 fps

At this stage I myself have only used ausgel glow gels. Which in my opinion go reasonably well in most blasters until you start getting to the higher powered/higher fps blasters

They went well in my my kids temu blasters all the way up to my jg works aug a3 through my ace tech bifrost, but not so well in my jg works sig 551 with the bifrost, granted they were a couple of months old when I attempted to use them in the sig 551 with the bifrost attached

I am yet to purchase and try other glow gels but have heard the ihobby glows are pretty good. Also I hear that azraelsarmoury glow gels currently in production stage will be the bees knees and will come in multiple colours besides green so eagerly awaiting their release

Ausgel’s glows are currently on sale for $3 a packet of 3000? I believe. Wouldn’t hurt to grab a few packs while they’re cheap to give them a test in your kids and your own blasters

Yeah ausgel glows are unfortunately the best I have tried. Work well in some things and will not feed in others. Need to be soaked overnight to get them to a reasonable size.

Otherwise ldt glows were okay, same as ausgel glows though being picky with what blaster they work in.

Also tried Nek minnit glows possum eyes… utter trash even by glow gels standards.

Glad you posted that… I was going to give the Possum Eyes a go.

OzGel&Tactical seem to be only stocking Nek Minnit and iHobby gels atm.

Looks like a trip into X-Force comin’ up. :man_shrugging:

My only experience with glow gels is the xforce brand…coupled with the halo plasma pistol.

They glow up well, and look like predator blood when shattered…!

I’ve only tested them in the 160 fps halo blaster…feed well.

They are very soft and squishy… I don’t think they’d hold up well with higher fps blasters though…

Thanks for the info. That’ll save me some of the trial and error.

I’ve ordered some of the Ausgels while they’re on spesh to try out

I only ever used WarInterest Glow Gels with decent success, but only because glow gels were new to the scene and were the only ones available :joy:

If you can find a packet cheap, give them a bash, got nothing to lose

im going to throw this in here.

Hellsfire glows. Work in GE gbbrs, works fairly alright in apaches. Cybertrigger has them in stock for a good price

Any reason why both Nek and Goat both went out of business?

Was it to do with consistent bad batches towards the end of their run, or simply other business matters that led to their demise?

Both I would guess? Same reason Ausgel was left to the wayside I spose.
Every gel brand is one bad batch away from being totally shunned and driven out, its a hard game indeed.

I NEVER cared for any of the Nek Minnit gels, despite many raving about them just didn’t see the reason for it. At the time, Ausgels were suffering bad batches so any half decent alternative would have sufficed I guess? Then it happened to Neks gels, and people did the same.

Sadly, the gel community gives no second chances for gels gone bad.

I heard that inconsistent quality was the reason Nek Minnit went south.

Talking to the guys up at OzGel & Tactical, a lot of buyers weren’t happy with them. I found the yellow Ducks Nuts okay, the Bull Balls horribly inconsistent for size and shape, and although I never tried their Possum Eyes glow gels, I heard they were pretty bad.

Goat Balls were flavour of the month for a while but I never got on board… always found iHobby Ultra Hardened gels better feeders.

Yep, iHobby blue or gold packet would be my fall back if SummerCats went south

Considering gels inherently come from the same manufacturer, whilst speculative, I wouldn’t put it past them contaminating the batches to try and force the competition out.

Funny how only Ihobby gels is one of the main suppliers with supposedly no issues - let alone able to import stock in with no restrictions (through Brisbane) yet others are still held up.

Always had best results from AKAs (not glow). There was one bad batch a couple of years back that was advised not to use until it was sorted by vendor. Later batches have been fine with gels still usable in pistols after a couple of months.

So I know my opinion is jaded, and often conflicts with the vast populace at times but in time I do often get the things right.

I never liked any of the Nek stuff. Goat balls I did not like at all, while everyone raved about them.

iHobby gels, I really don’t like, most bags I have had to sort, or undergrow which leads drying out far too quick for my liking.

AKAs are decent. Ronins were great though no longer available.

Currently, I am stuck on Summer Cat gels, the greens mainly.
I don’t find I need to sort, or watch for overgrowns if left too long, and they last stored well for months. All things I like to have in gels.

The greens are being discontinued and replaced with jade, see how that goes. The oranges are good but very slightly larger.

As for “all gels coming from the same factory”… there are two main manufactures I am aware of.

Summer Cat, and Triple Win?. Triple win apparently has better softer gels, with Summer Cat having the better ultra hards. They are the two biggest gel producers in China. Whether they do OEM for others, or there are more factories I don’t know. Pure speculation.

I went nuts on Armourech greens… bought packets of them.

They grow too big, have to control grow them or they jam every blaster I own.

Armourtech greens go best in the young fellas shotty, yellows in mine so explain that? :joy::joy:

Same shotty, different size springs is the only difference besides the possible cup seal issue on his but for some reason his gets low fps on anything other than the a/tech greens, mine does best with a/tech yellows

Weird, it’s like his prefers the slightly bigger gels

If you use larger gels it’s like running a tightbore inner barrel, if you think about it. A 7.5mm gel in a 7.5mm inner barrel is size for size. Put a bit of air behind that squishy gel and it deforms and expands in the bore as it’s pushed out.

From what I’ve seen with my AT green grows, the majority end up around 7.5mm but 7.6 and up isn’t uncommon. They’re big buggers.

Putting a 7.6-7.7mm gel through a 7.5mm IB is the same as running a 7 2-7.3mm IB with standard gels. Maybe that’s why your son’s works best on them. :person_shrugging:
