Blaster Servicing?

Hi everyone,

Wondering what everyone’s approach with blaster servicing is, do you keep a schedule, or just service when the performance drops off?

We have another SLR ION in the stable, a tan 4.25" inch version that originally started at 300fps and over the course of a year its dropped down to about 260.

Its my sons favourite blaster and he refuses to mess with any of the parts in case it wrecks the blasters accuracy, the thing is a sniper.

Anyway we opened it up and it was a bit of a mess. Cleaned out as much of the white crap as possible, assume that gel ball dust. Cleaned all the old grease of with isopropyl alcohol, re oiled and re greased everything. I replaced the piston o-ring with a green one I received from ROK. Inspected all the parts and they look fine to me, gears to my eye looked in good shape.

Anyway back together and its around the 265 mark, still down from 300. Safe to assume the spring has lost a bit of pop over the course of a year?

edit: even though my son doesn’t want to mess with this one, looking at how far back the piston goes past the port, I reckon at least two teeth could come off the sector gear :sunglasses:

Those cyma gears are already short 2 teeth, being a short barrel and port you can take off more but then will need a higher spring to keep the power up.

Generally you lose 15fps per tooth however a short barrel loses less. My cyma shorty custom is short 4 teeth with an m100 and does 285fps for example.

I usually say when a return spring goes or when the fps drops it’s a good time to service.

If it has had a bit of use over a long time there is a chance the spring has lost some of its spring. Might be time for a new one?
