Brandless "HK416 EBBR" Review - 2/5

I bought this thing from Gel Ball Warehouse the other week for $409 and let me just say this is one of the most shockingly poor quality blasters I’ve ever laid my hands on. The company that made this is completely inscrutable. That is not a good sign. There are no trademarks anywhere to be found (that aren’t, of course, forged HK ones) including the instruction pamphlet. I am, however, pretty sure that the gearbox is an LDT ATM. I was hoping for LDT quality on the shell, but this was an act of tremendous hubris.

The first thing one will notice is that the quality of the plastic is atrocious. I found some injection molding gubbins on the side of the mag well and to be frank, it doesn’t feel like nylon polyamide at all. I know what nylon feels like at this point and this does not feel like it. It feels like ABS.

By the way, the sights are suppressor are mine. Out of the box this comes with no irons, only a horrible red metal flash hider. I find this thing to be fugly as hell.

It chronos at anywhere from 170-220 FPS on AKA Tenacity balls, which is not what I’d call “great”. Fire rate has to be somewhere around 500-600 RPM, or less than 10 RPS. The biggest issue one will encounter with this blaster is that it jams CONSTANTLY. I mean, you’ll be lucky to get through five shots without a stoppage. The upside is that you can jam the bolt release down and it’ll more or less just keep shooting, but this is a very annoying quirk. Also, the charging handle doesn’t really work properly. You can’t use it to release the bolt.

The positives are that, as advertised, it does have a nice kick to it. This is good. This saves it from a 1/5. Since WAT sells these gearboxes for $390 anyway, I am basically just getting it for the gearbox + $20 shell, so I think I’m just gonna try and chuck it in my M16A2 and see if the guys at WAT were full of shit when they told me it wouldn’t fit.

Can wait for your new install report mate.

Been looking at one of these from iHobby for a while now, would come down to about $380 with their deal ATM.

Disappointed to hear your issues tho. Didn’t think they used the LDT box cause it’s listed as being nylon with the LDT being all metal from what I’ve seen.

As long as you’re able to transfer the t-piece setup over it should be a pretty straightforward body swap.

Different model I believe from Gell Ball Nuthouse.

I took it apart and it appears to be EXACTLY the same gearbox as the one WAT have for sale. The markings on the MOSFET are the same. I think this suggests that the one WAT sell is also nylon, unless they just make a different one with a metal shell. Regardless, the gears are all metal. I’m not sure what they’d get out of doing this.

It has NOT been a straightforward body swap at all! Not a single one of the lowers I have lying around will take the damn thing! This is because it has slightly unusual dimensions and in particular, the problematic part is that it’s slightly longer than usual (as gels feed straight into the gearbox) and that the mag release part is just a tiny bit longer than on most gearboxes. It extends flush with the loop that keeps it in.

It turns out a lot of gearboxes have bits in those places. I have specifically tried with a Cyma, SRC, Classic Army, Jing Gong, and that one brandless M16A2 lower they sell at iHobby. NONE of them fit. I am starting to think that the people at WAT actually do know what they’re talking about, however, there is absolutely nothing sticking out of the back that would need a buffer tube. You will definitely need some alternate way to attach a tube, though, as it doesn’t have the M5 screw at the back like every other gearbox. Something tells me that it will fit an LDT receiver. I’m thinking of an MCX. I could take full advantage of the folding stock.

Talk to the boys at WAT :+1:

Honestly I don’t really want to. Last time I was there, they belittled my M16 build and told me they thought it sucked. Also, while directionally correct, the guy there was totally talking out his ass about that EBBR gearbox. Besides that, this thing is clearly not ever going to be competitive. I don’t think that jamming problem is solvable. Maybe if I get just the right gels but fuck that. I’m going to 3d print a lower and frankenmod it into some sort of fucked up stockless machine pistol and use it purely as a toy.

We are trying to help best we can. Sounds like you’ve had a bad hair day.

Huh ok, that’s odd about the fitment, one would think if they sold the gearbox separately they would have it do it could fit a standard receiver or at least advertise it as not being compatible, maybe that’s why they advise having a tech fit it due to having to modify the shell.

Pretty sure the stand alone gearbox has the M5 screw hole on the back so maybe they didn’t mould it on the nylon build, some receivers just use a M5 nut on the inside instead of relying on the spring retainer, SLR do this from memory.

Great customer service to be talking trash about a customers build, especially when they themselves don’t know what they’re talking about or selling. WAT always came off as Milsim Elitists to me, not willing to deal with anyone not able to drop $1k on a blaster so it looks 100% accurate to the real thing.

Only had one in store interaction with them myself and don’t have any intention on dealing with them again just based service, also they’re like an hours drive away.

If you work at or own a gel blaster store you should never trash talk someones build! …unless it has a drop stock or is a paintball looking speedyboi thing. (That is a joke, but not for me!)

I have only had a few dealings with WAT online for parts, so I can’t comment to any service beyond what I ordered came.

Would be interesting to get an ATM gearbox kit and see how close it is, and if it is an actual ATM box. I always found it odd they make a gearbox that doesn’t fit anything, and that is the feedback I have seen across the board so far.
There is nothing like crafting and filing until it works though!

Yes re WAT I’ve never been there besides online service is good.
But ah to treat customers like low lifes they are going to loose them very quickly. I didn’t know this and apologies was only trying to help. As some said they are great.

Oh, the one you got is definitely below-par. For a normal 416 EBBR, it shoots between 230-250fps, so far I have not got one shot below 210fps.

The gearbox is a knock off of the LDT ATM but the quality is near that one. Basically, it is buying the gearbox, the shell is far from good.

It only takes hardened gel balls. Milky one won’t work. It does not jam unless wrong gel balls or the one you got is having issues as I does not have one that jammed so far.

If you have questions on the issue, I might be able to ask around as the supplier is easy to reach out.

Just a note here, the LDT ATM one isn’t coming with a full metal gearbox housing as well.

I have an installation guide in Chinese, if you don’t mind, I can send you one. It is a moderate level of mod.

Oh really? Just looked like metal from the images, thanks for clarifying.

Ha, did you look at the one review someone left on it

Looks about right for them.

And yeah I think “Gel Ball Warehouse” had actually closed down last year, so must of been GBU which would explain the poor performance cause it seems anything they sell I just bad by proxy.

 no I didn’t. So that’s a Smegma driver or haha funny
