Hi All.
Am wanting to get a Chrony but am not sure what is a good one for Gel Balls. I’ve owned a couple for firearms but they looked nothing like the Gel ball ones. What’s a good brand, easy to use and set up, reliable and accurate (well as accurate as these lil gel balls will allow one to be)?
I hope this is in the right Catorgory if not let me know and I will put it up in the right area.

I got one of these cheap a while ago, nothing fancy but it does the job,
Just have to get the settings setup properly for gel and it goes alright
There are more pricey ones available if you dont mind spending a few more sheckles but depends on you preference

I’ve had a couple of ACETECH Bluetooth versions for many years and cannot fault them.
I personally used ACETECH AC5000, it don’t have fancy stuff like bluetooth but it makes work done
Thanks all. I don’t need anything flash. I would write down on paper the fps from the display after each shot so never even used the systems memory and shot count for the one I’ve owned in the past.
Are gel balls easy to set the Chrony up for or is there a bit of fiddling?

There’s almost no setup for gel, I’ve messed around with the settings for different weight gels and it barely makes a difference, so just turn it on and use it.
Benefit of this model over others is that it gives you FPS and RPS in the same screen
Mine is nearly 9 years old… And this is the one I am considering to get to replace it, but my ancient Acetech one wont die!
I’ve got the old (very first) ACETECH 6000 Bluetooth, as it was the first to display all that information on one screen, plus the ability to scroll through other types of screen readouts as well.
Interesting to see that they’re now up to a MK III version, but hey, if you’re onto a good thing!

Can I just shoot and it will read correct fps of the object flying thru it. I can do weight fpe calculations on paper.Just looking for reasonably accurate velocity readings.
With the el cheapo I don’t think so, if it’s going off the wrong weight and size I would assume it wouldn’t give accurate numbers, when I go home on Monday afternoon I will have a look at mine and run through the steps to set the correct weight and size, it’s not too difficult, but you definitely get better readings with the more expensive chrono and functionality, eg my cheapo doesn’t read as well during full auto bursts compared to the expensive chronos
The size and weight “should” only be for the chrono calculating joules, something that in gel is only a curiosity not a unit measured at fields. In Airsoft where there are 0.2-0.5 gram projectiles it is a factor.
We just use fps as most of our gels are 0.2-0.22 grams.
That said I had a cheap chrono originally that was a regrettable purchase, mainly as it would only read steady semi auto shots and a stock blaster on 11v would miss most shots.
Chrono is a valuable tool, recommend a decent acetech. Mine is nearly 9 years old and I’d bet I’ve used it way more than most people would and it still works. The battery is getting very poor but I’ll likely just solder in a 18650 to replace the tiny single cell lipo it comes with.
The one sold by X-Force will be my next chrono though, having the rps and fps readout on the same screen is very handy for diagnosis of miss feeding.
Thank you all. I have ordered one and will see how it goes. As long as it reads the velocity of the shatter balls with reasonable accuracy then its all good. I will prob continue to do my fpe readings on paper as I’m a bit of a techniphobe and me and electronics don’t get on the best.
I have the “old Yeller” model…yellow coloured.
It’s several years old now, and performs like a champ.

Always used standard settings…as ROK said, the weight entries are for calculating joules…we don’t care about that.
FPS and R/min is about how many , and how fast ….what goes past the sensor….
Definitely wasn’t the case with the el cheapo I picked up, when I first got the chrono I was using it with my mp40 and the results were all over the shop, inconsistent and low

However I have no doubt with the better quality chronos it was a different story and much more reliable straight ootb
