Dekai Mk-17 SCAR H Overview

Hi all, seeing as I can’t find much online resources about the Dekai Mk-17 I thought I’d share my experience with it so far and maybe a tiny review. One of my friend happens to own one and he lent it to me in our last skirmish to try and we got together and gathered our thoughts on it.

Now keep in mind this is my first “review” of something so I’m sorry if things seems odd. Feedback is appreciated! Gotta get revenge for my IELTS going from an 8 to a 7 somehow .

Anyways on to the “review”

Thoughts

The DK SCAR Mk-17 is genuinely a fun unit to play with. The recoil kick is immensely satisfying, and the overall build quality stands out, especially if you’re a fan of the SCAR platform. Compared to other brands’ SCAR H models, the DK version arguably offers the best experience and build quality straight out of the box. Friends who’ve tested it even liken the recoil feel to that of ATM models, but at a significantly lower price point.

However, performance is where this unit begins to falter. Out of the box, it delivers 230 FPS with an average rate of fire, even when using an 11.1v battery. While this level of performance is standard for factory blasters in China, it struggles against even slightly upgraded units in more open and public skirmishes.

You might think, “It’s fine, I can just upgrade it!”—but here’s the unfortunate truth: it’s not worth it.

A trusted tuner and renowned importer (I personally call him my plastic crack dealer since I buy all my units from him) in the Jakarta Metropolitan Area, has warned that opening this unit carries significant risks, beyond what’s typically expected when modifying a J8 or J9 gearboxes. While upgrading is technically possible, you’re going in blind and risk damaging the unit’s main selling point: the recoil blowback system.

I mean, there’s a reason why no one so far has dared to open the unit up.

And while I gushed about the feel and experience of the recoil, the blowback system is a double-edged sword. It provides a highly enjoyable shooting experience but makes upgrades nearly impossible without disabling the recoil mechanism—the very thing you would buy this unit for.

Moreover, the recoil system is pretty rough the blaster itself. Out of the two people I know who own this, both reported issues: one had their charging handle break, while the other experienced a telescopic stock that became stuck in the retracted position. While it’s somewhat fun to compare this to the real SCAR’s reputation for breaking optics, these flaws are less acceptable for a blaster you paid and want to have fun with.

And while I think these are still relatively fine or you can work around these, the most damning issue right now is the lack of spare magazines available. Here in Indonesia at least, no one sells extra mags for them. And for a unit that costs as much as a Sijun MCX? I’d rather get the MCX honestly speaking since at least I know I can use my Sijun mags for it instead of not having any available.

To end it all, is it a good unit? Yes especially if you love the SCAR. Is it a fun unit to shoot? EXTREMELY. Is it competitive or can you upgrade it? Unfortunately that’s an no. It’s a fun “experience” gun, but take that out and you can’t really do much with it anymore.

I’m not barring you from getting one, but please note these factors before taking your wallet out and making a purchase.

Absolutely AWESOME review mate, well done! :raised_hands:

This is a classic example of why these Forums are so valuable, along with the people who provide such detailed information for the rest of the enthusiasts in this hobby :ok_hand:

Nice review! I am personally interested in getting one, to see how capable of upgrade it is, if it can have an aftermarket gearbox installed etc. I would be disabling blowback as my experience is blowback cripples reliability and upgrade potential.

Also, the SCAR-H is just an awesome looking piece!

Ah… “He who dares wins, my son… he who dares wins.”

Great review, well done… not a brand we see here in Oz but nice to see another SCAR H on the market that offers an alternative to the rather average Bing Feng/Ming Dynasty version.

Aside from the odd t piece placement, a gel blaster gearbox is a gel blaster gearbox when all’s said and done… they’re all pretty much the same so I’d say it can be upgraded if your comfort level of working on them is high enough or you’ve got access to an experienced tech.

It’s pretty straightforward upgrading the piston spring and o ring on any V2 to get that fairly respectable 230FPS (for stock) up closer to 300FPS.

When you say nobody’s dared to open one of these boxes up, I’m assuming you mean in your local scene? I remember back in the Gen 8 days here in Australia when V2s were considered complex by comparison, now they’re considered simple. Even the slightly more complicated boxes like the Kriss Vectors are all fairly similar. It’s just a matter of getting profficient at something you’re possibly unfamilar with. There are plenty of rescources and members of this forum who can help out if you decide to crack this SCAR open and give it a tickle, and I’d encourage you to do that. That’s where the fun is.

No guts, no glory’s my motto, Otto. :+1:

Man put together, man can take apart. And back together again. :joy:

I likeanything that has a proper 7.62 sized mag instead of a 5.56! :ok_hand::sunglasses:

With the blowback disabled, I’m guessing you’ll have a very solid unit/shell to work with. The feel of the unit itself is pretty good and if not for the non-existant mag supply, I could see myself getting a secondhand unit and trying to mod it since, come on ITS A SCAR H!

@DocBob There is a reason why I’ve been thinking of ways to convert my Sijun MCX lower to accept those SCAR-H MingDynasty mags to turn it into an MCX SPEAR, and big bullets is one of them :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Yeah. I’m sure someone somewhere here have tried opening it up, but for the most part people here just accepts its one of those “for fun” blasters and nothing too competitive. The fact the recoil system seems pretty beefy is also a factor and dealing with that apparently is a pain

Oh I know what you’re talking about. I’ve been getting advice on jury-rigging a magprime on an old Jinming J16 and reading up older threads talking about upgrades and optimising things. Heck, I’m gathering courage to open up my absolute favourite child the Sijun MCX and hopefully that new Bohan MPX too when it arrived in the mail

The recoil just like RX Ak right? [Dekai Mk17 Scar-H (tan ver)] 27K views · 675 reactions | Moyu Mk17 v2 | By BÁC TIỀU PHU - gelgun | Facebook

Pretty sure it’s only a reciprocating mechanism, not a weighted Blow Back type system, so no, won’t be anything like the RX AK.
