Any way to rectify greengas cans spraying/leaking gas everytime I try and recharge my mags? I have used many cans in past with this issue happening a quarter of the time.
I follow the correct instructions/procedure to recharge them, but the fkn can nozzles keep spraying gas and frosting everywhere. This is despite shaking the cans before use.
I’m using the Dino 12KG stored at relative indoor ambient temp - up here in SEQld so winter is fairly mild compared to down south.
Frankly got fed up with wasting gas and potentially compromising my mag valves and seals with frosting, I ended up smashing the can on the ground and ruptured it in frustration realising it was a dud can to begin with.
With the gas stuff I have I found you can never really completely seal off the connection when filling mags and that, but check the o-ring around the valve, they like to yeet themselves into oblivion.
I believe the purpose of that o-ring is to stop gas from escaping when filling.
There should be a o-ring in the fill valve to stop the gas yeeting out as you fill, but some manufacturers of mags and or gas cans just don’t play the game.
If you can get a small enough oring to fit, sometimes that helps to seal the valve.
Early Golden Eagle pistols were famous for it. Later ones are better.
The other trick was a piece of vacuum hose, cut to fit snugly over the spout on the gas can though that was not always a good solution, just a slight help sometimes.
At the time, I very recently picked up a Golden Eagle 1911 from my retailer and recharged the mag using one of their Dino cans - absolutely no issues whatsoever with filling and or firing. When I recharge it normally testing with no leaks, I bring the can up to my ear and hear it refilling as well as an audio gauge.
Unfortunately the can I had at home wasn’t playing the game and led to its rather untimely demise
BTW does anyone generally agree that the markup on cans are ridiculously overpriced? Some retailers now charging $40 for Red Poker brand for standard 12KG that a stock Dino could do for $28 - Given all they are is just essentially propane mixed in with a bit of oil. I get that consumables are a $$ boon for retailers and suppliers but seriously some are really pulling the fucken piss
Propane cartridges in a 4pk are typically $5-6 as a relative loose comparison.
As for the markup on things like the poker cans, they are a bit bigger than some of the others, but yeah it’s really all the same stuff… well similar.
You can get propane adaptors, but if you use them indoors you will know. It stinks! Also no lube in them though you could argue the lube is gas does stuff all.
A mate of mine set up a adaptor to his HPA with a regulator for “green has pressure”, then just used his HPA to fill it. So there is options.
I remember when I play airsoft (around 20 years ago) in Hong Kong there is only propane no green gas, It is very dry, So you have to add oil to the pistol grease it up after each IPSC session. By the way WE/AW mags are really good they don’t leak even after a few years storage.
Yes I attest WE mags - apart from a dud mag that came with my G19 (faulty knocker and bottom seal) have fared the test of time much better than the other entry level brands.
Pure propane - guess there have been some adventurous tinkerers out there who’ve tried lighting the muzzle to get some outrageous Hollywood level muzzle flash effects
Every now and then put a drop of oil onto the valve of the mag it will last for a long time (for WE/AW mags).
Yes, that is what happen before green gas ( may not be pure propane but no oil in it).
Yes lubing mag valves and seals are very overlooked. Luckily one former chap at XFORCE in NL pointed that out several years back when I purchased an E&C.
Before filling mag (for others not in the know) - lube the knocker valve whilst depressing to allow oil in, drop on the bottom filler, and also a good film on the rubber seal on top to form a better seal against nozzle.
yes, I do it all the time. I depress the valve put oil on it. I remember the guy at CEH said that you don’t have to do anything the green gas have oil in it. Of course it is not true.
I was a tight arse and always used the large propane gas cannisters from Bunnings.
A kilogram of gas for around $7, combined with an aftermarket filler adaptor from AliExpress with an integrated oiling port that combined the oil with the gas as you filled it.
Always oiled the gas valves and o-rings as part of the regular maintenance schedule and never had any issues with my Glock G18C, as long as you don’t mind the smell of farts!
