I post this acknowledging that I know nothing about blaster builds, If I knew just how little I really knew about builds, then that would be something…
My son and I play outdoors where range really is king, followed of course by accuracy and rate of fire. Trigger response is important and weight is also a consideration but getting those gels out there just a little further than the next person can make all the difference.
Could a build be done in an attempt to squeeze out another few metres? Would it be full cylinder with a relatively long barrrel? Would it be a 7.5ID barrel to have slightly heavier gels? Is there a cylinder / nozzle setup that plays a part?
I also recognize you can get lucky and purchase a cheap blaster that turns out to be a beast, and you can also buy an expensive blaster, upgrade it and it does no better. So I’m certainly not expecting miracles with such a build, just something I think I’d like to try
Depends how much you want to spend. Plenty of manual bolt action snipers out there that perform. My Senyu M24 is pretty accurate at around the 20-25 metre mark.
Might seem counter intuitive, but one of the best and most accurate blasters for distance and power is also one of the cheapest.
With an M100 spring giving it 300+FPS, an alloy inner barrel, a decent hopup and a restrictor to limit feed to only one gel per pump, it’s one of the most accurate and reliable snipers out there.
Keep in mind that the limiting factor with range in this hobby is the gel itself. No matter how much air you put behind it, it weighs next to nothing and it’s always going to lose impetus after 20 metres or so.
I agree with @Friendly_Fire that the most long distance and accurate Gelblasters that I got to play with were manual Rifles, not your normal M4 full auto type models.
I always looked at them as being similar to an air rifle, in the sense that they precocked a smooth action spring/piston/bolt mechanism combined with a long barrel and sturdier platform, being one piece body from stock to muzzle, unlike M4 style Blasters with separate hand guards and multiple sections such as inner/outer barrels thrown into the “accuracy” mix as well.
That’s why I liked the AK style Gelblasters for a mix of power AND accuracy, simply because they had a solid “one piece” reciever/handguard/barrel, which definitely gave a more solid shooting platform and longer barrels to play with.
So maybe do some research and see what “one piece” models are available that gives you long barrel options as well.
As far as FPS is concerned, it will simply be a matter of deciding on the particular model Gelbaster that you get first, and then can definitely recommend many different mods to achieve the ultimate performance build from there.
BF M14 EBR, monster modified gearbox in it, very accurate and good range. New units still available too.
The other good full auto option is an M249 SAW, Minimi. Gen 8 style box that loves upgrades and can be turned into an absolute beast, and a mag capacity that is just insane.
For long range stuff, the best that ive seen, was a V2.5 DMR.
@Friendly_Fire was with me, when we saw it at vipertac north lakes.
The V2.5 gearbox, is a larger gearbox with a larger volume cylinder.
More pop…to match with a longer barrel.
This one was further modified, had a hop up…and was pushing a solid 380+ fps…quite straight and covering around 40-45m.
I fired it inside their large indoor building, into the upper corner, 40ish metres away.
They said they couldn’t get a v2 to make it that far, as you couldn’t angle it up any further…
I don’t recall seeing any reviews here for the V2.5 DMR builds.
Anyone got one.?
They would go awesome in the LMG’s with longer barrels…
M60 / PKM / M1919 would crush it, with extra range…!
Was the E&C M110 (SR25)/M110a1 (HK417 or G28 if you’re military )from memory, they had the 2.5 gearboxes, there was another one that had a 2.5 but can’t think of it.
Lehui do a HK417 but don’t know if it’s the larger v2.5 or just a standard V2 by their design, problem with them were no spare mags were brought in.
Apparently the E&C HK417 is a v2.5, being a shorter barrel than the DMR M110a1, some would say a “Battle Rifle”…
Also apparently you can get the E&C 2.5 gearbox but oof that’s a bit pricey
I’d love to own a G28 and see what can be done with that extra volume but they are too many dollarydoos for me.
Anyway…
Long range builds are a lot of skill, good amount of money, and a little luck getting a hopup that works well, it will need it!
I’ve have quite a few 370-390fps blasters, and get 40-45 meters with decent accuracy.
There will alway be one very straight shot and a couple of “beaten zone” shots, but easily compensated for with a bit of RPS… it is gel after all, so a lot will come done to them.
This went through originally a gen9, and over time became a full metal blaster with a MK V2M gearbox. 380mm inner barrel. M110 spring, 18:1 gears and a fast motor (can’t remember what is in it it’s had a few!)
380fps 25rps. It has just been a good long range blaster, they sail well and always raise eyebrows for the range.
With just an M110 spring, full cylinder, 13:1 gears, aoe pad and SHS piston, is damn cheap on upgrades and damn good on range.
380fps 25rps. Has the same effect as my not M16.
3)double bell akm metal.
Full cylinder, delay chip deleted, brown oring, radius gearbox. 390fps. Everything else is stock even the hopup and it is impressive.
The key takeaways are 380-400mm barrels do well and get bonus fps boost our of springs. Good seals for consistency between shots. And if you can get 25rps you just squeeze a burst off and one will mail what it was intended for.
The catch is those lase 5-10 meters over a 300ish fps blaster are easily dodged matrix style if your target sees them coming. And if they don’t they may not feel them, or feel them and assume it’s not someone shooting them because they are too far to be shot! Just the reality of 0.2g projectiles.
Building a solid metal M4 definitely allows for a VERY solid handguard/inner/outer barrel setup, along with plenty of options for the required barrel lengths through the endless possibilities of accessories available for these particular models.
I can’t remember the length of the barrel that was in this one, but I think it was a 400, finishing about halfway into the flash hider.
