Maxim PDX review...cheap and cheerful

yeah… this is a " cheap and cheerful" level purchase.

At the nylon price point, you don’t expect top shelf stuff…but its still quite a sturdy, solid build with good details. Even the forearm strap works.!!

Short barrel is an effort to get high fps, and they make all modern chinese stuff low fps.

Having said that, oring upgrade, better air seal, better M100 spring ( metal gears in a nylon box), and this should do 250-270 fps. Time will tell.

A lopnger barrel would help, but then you need a supp to cover it, which is sorta contrary to the overall short form factor.

good budget blaster…!

I’d call that colour dark earth… looks good. :+1:

Nice to see a bit of variety in the non-black units. :ok_hand:

where would you go, to get some “real steel” scorpion iron sights.?.?

Would anywhere even sell them to you, due to real steel connotations.?

Stock of flip up iron sights is very limited in all stores now.
They used to have a huge variety…

There are plenty of flip up iron sights still listed on ebay for around $30-$40, mostly Oz stock.

You could have a crack at bringing in some genuine CZ Scorpion sights, but at that price you could buy three gel blaster Scorpions.

Or you could try bringing some in from an OS airsoft company, but I’d say you have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting them in now. :person_shrugging:

Its a funny one.
In my conversations with QLD police…bringing in sights and scopes from O/S was all OK.

No import permit reqd…but as always ABF have final discretion.
They could be going on real steel etc, so sights, scopes, grips were not an issue, as i was told.

As always…ABF , wherever it lands…

who do you get, and what mood are they in.?.?

:joy::rofl: Twenty characters

Doesen’t matter if they do go on real steel as when they check you and see you are a LAFO it’s is fine. Depends though as every state is different. I just focus on mine so I get it right. I’ve been over this too many times. But what is ok for me is different to maybe where you live. Because I know it is. Follow your states legislation and you are fine. I’ve spent more hours than a lot pouring all over it, why I know. Even trying to help interstate people out with there questions about what can and can’t be done. Always refer to your states legislation.

Or is it a ROFLMAO these days

Still looks a good shorty. I like me shorties, and bullpups for that matter. How do you find the controls the safety and mag release etc. Just asking as haven’t played around with those. :+1:

The controls are solid and functional.
Fire select is Not ambi….so it’s a bit more firm and positive.

Mag release is likewise crisp.

It’s an interesting form factor….

Stock retracted, you wanna hold and aim it like a pistol/ smg.
If it was real steel, in 300 BLK… you’d want to fire it with the stock extended, to help with recoil.

When it’s like that, it “feels tiny” , as you lean down into it., and a little weird…

So, because it’s just gel, the ideal solution is to wield from the hip, as a smg.

A red laser sight helps with from the hip aiming…no need to look through iron sights,/ red dot.

And , accurate enough for gel spray and pray, over 15-20 m….

Nice, the controls look pretty good from your pics. Some of the years ago ones were bit average :joy:

Not that model though, other older things. Hmm that one needs some fettling etc fell off. Here eat some Loctite and stay on this time bastard. :joy: :+1:

Okay… PDX update time.

Got me my M100 spring, looking to give it a tickle.

First things first.
Its a fake bolt at the front…dont try to tap it out.

This is a clamshell design.

rear bolt goes through the gearbox…nice’n’tight…

It comes apart easily, take the top pic rail off first, then go ahead.
It has a solid post post the gearbox slots into…no movement.

It has a ported cylinder.

The outer barrel is stabilised, and held down by 2 screws. Nice…!

Standard v2 affair…

I thought there was a reason, it was low fps, and quite quiet…( 200-210 initially)

Opened it up…spring retainer was not screwed in, and hanging part out…AGAIN…!!

Medinchina quality control…

Spring comparo…

Stock spring LHS…M95 Middle… M100 right.

M95 is thicker, but shorter than the original. M100 a bit longer.

Went with the m100… nylon box w/ metal gears…

The results…??

Full Auto…

This thing is a little pocket rocket…!!

Hello, QCB friend.

I was using ihobby blues…might be the stabilised barrel, but it was shooting Very straight.

Little lateral drift…a fairly consistent spread over 15m.
Thats good, for 320 fps.

It is noisier for the M100… it was very quiet before ( due to spring being adrift).
A m90 would probably yield 300 fps, and be quiter.

No problems cycling on semi, with the M100.

Great solid little blaster…lightweight, nylon, sturdy and a solid performer.

For $190 from i hobby…grab one while full auto stuff is still available…!!

cant go wrong, at this price…

(Also…note to self…1 spinner in grip screws…left out on reassembly…)

330FPS hard cap at Blacksite… so you’d be legal there with that. :+1:

Off you go then… bruises or it didn’t happen.

i think i found the donor gearbox, for the EVO transplant…!!

Need some serious zombie blasting juice…!!

Does the Maxim motor secure into a grip like an M4 or does it have some sort of weird arse motor cage arrangement in that clamshell?

With a Le Hui EVO you can’t use a V2 for that reason. Needs a cage, and an integrated t piece helps too… like on a Gen 8.

Looking at the pics, seems to be standard V2 grip mount.

i was joking about the gearbox… i knew it wouldn’t fit…

It has a funny little motor cage…with an adjustment screw…!! Good Value.!

Basically, you “Pinch” the side tabs,on the bottom of the grip.
The latch can then move out of the way.
Out falls the plastic cage, with an adjustable screw.

Pretty good for a nylon blaster …many don’t have em…

Getting some tasty numbers there :+1:

no frills budget nylon’s… can turn out some respectable figures.

The MCX rattler was doing 340 fps, with just a M95…!!!

I like the stabilised barrel on this…

Which is exactly why I always say that once the gel leaves the barrel, eveything else is just window dressing.

A great box in an ABS shell will deliver the same performance as a full metal build. Stands to reason.
