Forgot to detail the reasons behind all the chopping of wires and fitting stupidly large connectors to this whole system.
Standard procedure is to fit multiple plugs and adaptor cables to be able to run two batteries in series or parallel to run the system.
The problem here is that this adds multiple plugs and extra cabling to connect the whole setup together.
Every single extra millimetre of wire, and every single extra plug adds additional resistance throughout the whole system.
Resistance equals voltage drop, ripple currents and extreme heat buildup through every wire and connection.
Here’s the “industry standard” for piggybacking dual batteries in Series connection using adaptor leads and plugs.
If you count everything together, that’s 9 power cables and 12 individual wire connections in the “series” system between the Batteries and the ESC, whereas “parallel” connection would require 10 cables and 14 wire connections!![]()
That’s a shitonne of plugs and long cable lengths just to get power from the batteries to the ESC, with every step of the process using different cables, different Amp rated plugs, all robbing power, delaying power delivery and adding plenty of heat and resistance into the whole powertrain.
Here’s the system I modified to overcome all of these issues.
Chopped the Battery leads and ESC power leads as short as possible, then fitted massively oversized 150A single plugs designed to be able to connect directly to each other in either Series or Parallel configuration directly to the ESC individually, without the need for adaptor cables adding extra cable lengths or plugs to slow down power delivery.
So we have gone from 9 cables and 12 individual wire connections to 6 cables and 6 wire connections, with the original set-up requiring twin 60A battery plugs feeding into a single 90A plug to the ESC, now it’s simply 150A plugs straight off and across the batteries feeding directly into 150A plugs to the 150A constant/900A burst current rated ESC.![]()
Might not look like much, but notice how much shorter the system is compared to the first pic in this post, and on paper through the electrical engineering calculator, the difference is night and day!
There ain’t NOTHING stopping that MOAR POWER instantly getting to where it needs to be!![]()

On the Aircraft scene, great news that the 1600mm B25 Mitchell Bomber has actually left China and is on the high seas, unlike my 2 previous attempts at purchasing one only to have them turned back by the Shipping authorities in China and returned to sender after a month of waiting for departure.![]()
More good news is that I was finally able to secure the purchase of a 1500mm Messerschmitt BF 110 Fighter Bomber that proved impossible to get through any other overseas retailers due to the same shipping reasons, where I had 3 returned to the seller after waiting over a month each time only to get refunded and left empty handed.![]()
This time I went straight to the manufacturer in America and ordered directly from their factory website.
Sure it cost me a little bit more, but at least was guaranteed delivery and wasn’t so bad considering that the exchange rate for the USD is tanking at the moment!
My current search is for period correct Swastika decals for both the FW190 and the BF110 to finish off the fine details of the builds.
The manufacturers aren’t allowed by US/European Laws to include Swastika images/decals in their model kits, so they have to be sourced separately online…
just in case somebody gets offended by witnessing an ancient Asian/Indian/Buddhist religious symbol on a model airplane.![]()

Gonna test out the old RX to see if it still works, but has signs of the Aerial wire possibly having contacted a +positive wire somewhere in the chaos and looking a little charred, so I don’t have very high hopes!

Yes, the Bf110 actually got delivered before lunch yesterday, which is much earlier than the usual 4-6 p.m. delivery.
With all the wind and rain outside I didn’t even hear the delivery driver, just a thump on the veranda outside, thinking something had blown over or a branch dropping out of the trees.
Went outside and found this HUGE bloody box just starting to soak up the rain blowing in, so luckily I checked the sound of something dropping on the decking before it got totally drenched!
It was too large to throw on the bed in the spare room like I normally do, and my workbench is taken up with the Speedboat that I’m currently finishing building, so improvised with a spare Esky to unpack and then transfer the individual components into the spare room.![]()
It was immediately apparent just how large this beauty was going to be compared with the same scale single seat fighter aircraft.
Rough loose assembly testing out parts fitment before I begin the journey of finding out what space I have available to fit all the various electronics into and still have room for everything to bolt together properly.
Only have 2 tiny thin slots in the underside of the fuselage between the wing mounts (highlighted green) to somehow fit all of these electronics and wiring into, and already modifying internal bulkheads to try and get airflow through these tiny compartments to avoid any overheating failures.
After much chin scratching and many different attempts trying out different combinations, I think that I might just have found a set-up that’s finally going to allow enough room for all the Electronics and wiring for the Wing to actually fit snug to the fuselage.![]()
So yeah, won’t fix anything permanently just yet, will wait a few more days of beard stroking and a few more Beers whilst reviewing everything until I’m certain that I’ve got the right plan in place before final assembly.![]()
Oh yeah, there’s also some nice retractable landing gear and huge landing/takeoff flaps underneath, but won’t be able to work on those until all the electronics are completed and the RX/TX bound and operating switches configured.

Been pretty busy lately, in and out of town, but still plodding away on what I need to wherever I can!
Waaaayyy. too many hours spent on the Messerschmitt BF110 Fighter Bomber, mainly because of plenty of forward planning to achieve quite a few subtle “Doc’s Mods” before finally getting to the point of buttoning everything down.
I forgot to introduce you all to Heinze the Pilot…
… and Shultz, the unlucky Tail Gunner/Navigator.
Shultz is a few sheep short in the top paddock, and is missing half his nose, along with a face full of shrapnel after shooting half the Tailplane off their own Aircraft in a trigger happy moment!
Hence why Heinze doesn’t look very happy!![]()
Unfortunately Shultz received a double leg amputation for his stupidity…
But at least the Hacksaw and Knife was much less traumatic than @Maiphut diving in with the 9" Grinder!![]()
A victim of too many Electronics having to fit in places that were previously reserved for body parts, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do to get the job done.
Still plenty of technical shit to sort through, as not all of the Electronics are communicating with each other happily yet, but 99% of everything is up and running as it should and only need to fine tune a couple of things to be able to send it off on its first maiden flight.![]()
Just got home from 5 hours worth of Log Book flights out at the Weir.
I think that I’ve finally realised that attaching big heavy floats to ground Aircraft means that Aerobatics are now actually out of the question.![]()
This is the third Airplane that has lost a wing mid-flight after the Wing Struts have broken following some type of Aerobatic flying manoeuvres.![]()
Every single time I’ve been able to witness the Struts breaking seconds before having a wing detach and plummeting into the ground/water.
Can see in the pic where the R/H Struts gave way, causing the wing to depart and pull all the electrical connectors out of the Fuselage on the way.
L/H Wing/Struts still firmly attached, even after hitting the water from a great height, but the float and Tail didn’t fair so well!
Looks like all my future Float Plane flying will be done in full Nanna mode from now on.
It’s all good, nothing a bit of glue and some bamboo skewers won’t fix!![]()

I actually met a Lockheed-Martin Wing Engineer and his Wife whilst I was out bush Camping.
He was there when I was building that HUSKY, and I was saying way back then that I wasn’t overly confident in the Chinese design of the Wing Struts, to which he was actually truly shocked when he had a closer look himself!
I’m not only going to reinforce these when I repair it, but also do some “Doc’s Mods” on the other High Wing Float Planes to strengthen all their Struts as well.
Already did the KINGFISHER after they came apart and lost a wing, the 2 RANGER’s, after they both lost wings … the only Float Plane that I haven’t lost a wing on yet is the MAULE, but at this rate it’s only a matter of time if I don’t do anything!![]()
