That’s why I found the video so interesting, especially the title.
Both my old man and my Uncle’s all said that they were shit house, and always raved about the OWEN and FAL SLR’s.
I was just excited to see he had that OWEN in the video with some great information and looking forward to the full video on it.
Big reason for loving the video is the production quality, humour, history, MilSim reinactments and actually getting to hear them as blank firing weapons in full auto instead of just a display piece layed out for discussion on a table.
Major issue with F1 was that Defence procurement tightened up the tolerances so they wouldn’t rattle like an Owen. When the F1 saw dirt or sand the bolt would jam.
The root cause analysis sessions at SAF for F1 fails were interesting, particularly when SAF engineers suggested that there might be an absence of real world knowledge among the Defence Procurement team - something to do with daylight appearing from a rather unusual place
(This is second hand knowledge as I wasn’t in the meeting)
Give that man a Cigar. From my Uncle anyway When Uncle say shit, doesn’t always mean the actual firearm. It’s who’s fucked with it
Why said Uncle lined the feed trays to his twin MAG58’s with alfoil. Helps the belts feed in smoothly instead of jamming on the plain steel feed trays. Ah ok makes sence. Pack alfoil in the back pack. Check
Yep. Was always an ongoing battle between Defence QA and what became ADI. Defence QA enforcing standards that even the OEM didn’t adhere to cost us a crap load of good manufacturing opportunities. And then there was the Labor government - another layer or unreasonableness and opposition to profitable munitions opportunities
