Real Steel Thread

That’s why I found the video so interesting, especially the title.

Both my old man and my Uncle’s all said that they were shit house, and always raved about the OWEN and FAL SLR’s.

I was just excited to see he had that OWEN in the video with some great information and looking forward to the full video on it.

Big reason for loving the video is the production quality, humour, history, MilSim reinactments and actually getting to hear them as blank firing weapons in full auto instead of just a display piece layed out for discussion on a table. :ok_hand:

Major issue with F1 was that Defence procurement tightened up the tolerances so they wouldn’t rattle like an Owen. When the F1 saw dirt or sand the bolt would jam.

The root cause analysis sessions at SAF for F1 fails were interesting, particularly when SAF engineers suggested that there might be an absence of real world knowledge among the Defence Procurement team - something to do with daylight appearing from a rather unusual place

(This is second hand knowledge as I wasn’t in the meeting)

Bwahahaha :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

Give that man a Cigar. From my Uncle anyway :+1: When Uncle say shit, doesn’t always mean the actual firearm. It’s who’s fucked with it

Why said Uncle lined the feed trays to his twin MAG58’s with alfoil. Helps the belts feed in smoothly instead of jamming on the plain steel feed trays. Ah ok makes sence. Pack alfoil in the back pack. Check :+1:

Yep. Was always an ongoing battle between Defence QA and what became ADI. Defence QA enforcing standards that even the OEM didn’t adhere to cost us a crap load of good manufacturing opportunities. And then there was the Labor government - another layer or unreasonableness and opposition to profitable munitions opportunities

Spot on sir and why a lot do not understand.

That’s interesting re the 6.8mm  Curious to see where ADF end up with that.

Ha even Interfet got a mention. Sparky friend went on that joyride.

Some AR handguard history

The conflict that everyone seems to forget about.

Got an uncle who suffers from really bad PTSD because of being part of INTERFET. He’s a bit of a mess, spends most of his time doing leatherwork in a converted container… twitchy and tweaky out in public. Nearly got into a blue over that in a bar when I overheard a couple of millenials calling him a crackhead behind his back. They got a mouthful from me, didn’t even know about East Timor.

He won’t talk about his time over there and some of the horrific shit he witnessed, but snippets tell me his PTSD is warranted.

Oh for sure. As many mistake ADF is not part of NATO, never has been. We wear the blue helmets under the UN banner. United Nations which we do dabble in. UN head at the time asked us if we could take care of that.

Took care of it all right, 1500rnd battle packs , deploy.

Lots of rebels and civilians. Why I say overall we cleaned up that mess and not get in to the details. Wave the F88 out the window and mobs would run.

Yeah. One of our group was up there and he has PTSD from what he saw and the messes he had to clean up. We know not to mention anything about Timor.

My ex ADF mates who served in Timor have told me so many stories that separates their time in Iraq/Afghanistan as being a walk in the park in comparison to what they had to deal with regarding Timor. :disappointed_relieved:

Nuts isn’t it and here we go again.

Unfortunately Mr NIOA is a private company and also now CEO of Barret Firearms and fulfilling military contracts so if the people he sells to says stop, he will or he looses the order for the P320X Carry pro’s for the ADF, and all the rest including the 50. Supplying the Americans big time after Ronnie Barret retired.

It’s nothing to NIOA. This is the reality of things. I can already see it for years it will get tighter and tighter as crims do their thing and Police forces can’t control it.

I changed over my licence for primary production already, not for semi auto class just to keep the bolt action. When a sheep goes mad and jumps the stockyard gate, breaks it’s fucking leg, I’m supposed to run out there at 40klm’s hr like fkn rambo with a knife that is probably banned to and do Arnie if it bleeds we can kill it. Fk no man, one clean shot between the eye and ear and it’s lights out. Humanely, quick and clean.

Elvis packing heat?

If so, wondering what his choice of steel was :joy:

Thats his Harmonica! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

My guess would be Colt .45…

But here ya go…
