Represhensible Rattler Requires Reaming, Readjustment

Okay.
In keeping with my " Nylon Cheapy Run"…

I got a compact Rattler from ihobby.

I liked the price, short form factor, extendable stock, and stippled magazine.

That’s the good part…

Now the not so good part…

Its functioning.

OOTB, it was badly misfeeding.
Like, only firing about 50% of the time.
i tried different sized gels, etc… all the same.

Also, when it worked, fps was 180-190 fps.
Awful…but not unexpected…china fps limits.

So, i pulled it down to have a look.

A couple of things quickly jumped out at me.

1: Extremely short inner barrel . Like, about 7cm long.
Easy to fix… and coupled with a ported cylinder, i expected good improvement.

2: “Gel Keeper”, on the bottom of the t-piece.
Basically, some holes in the sides, of the bottom of the t-piece.
This " rubber band" encircled it, with protrusions thru the tpiece holes.

This creates a light “barricade”, which retains the gels when you remove a mag.

This stops them from falling out…but could also stops gels from getting past it.
I thought it best to get rid of it.

@Friendly_Fire helped remove the short barrel, and i cut a new piece to correct size.
Its about 5cm longer, and is just barely visible from the inside of the flash hider.

So, restrictor gone, barrel longer, new M95 spring put in ( original was pathetic) … should be all plain sailing, right…

Right…??

Right…??

WRONG…!!

Try firing multiple gels, on a single semi shot…and shattering gels.

OOTB, when it did feed, at least it fired single shots on semi.

Now, sometimes it will fire 2-3 gels, on a semi shot.

FPS is all over the place…best is 200, sometimes 40-50 fps flops out a single gel.

Harder gels survive better, i tried xforce pinkies ( med hardness) and saw much shredding there.

So, a bit of a mess…

to Summarise… What i’ve done…

  • Remove gel keeper restrictor.
  • Upgraded M95 spring. Didn’t split the gearbox.
  • Using standard 7.4v battery.
  • Cut new IB using a pipecutter…filed the newly cut edge smooth, and NIKO’d the tip black. No paint to interfere.
  • New inner barrel is a very tight friction fit. No glue was used. Pushed it back hard, all the way in to the stop, and left it there.

I seem to remember Rattler on the old forum had similar issues with something…it may have been this model… there was a bit of a post / story about it.

My expectations would be around 260-280 fps, for a short barrel thing like this…

Any ideas.?.?

What’s the nozzle/t-piece meshing like? Maybe the nozzle isn’t protruding far enough to seal properly? Have had that before and turned out to be a bit of debris stuck in the tappet plate track.

Another thought is the size of the hole on the barrel side of the t-piece, maybe it’s too small and squishing gels or there’s some flashing in there cutting gels.

First two things that come to my mind.

I’ll pull it down, and have another look…

Funny it wasn’t doing it initially…
:thinking::thinking:

Well…thats part of the answer…

pulled it apart… black tip of the nozzle had came off…!!

What do you glue it back on with.?
Tiny amount of super glue.?

or…

5 min epoxy.?

You need something semi flexible like Gorilla Grip Glue.
Get the CLEAR version though, as it doesn’t foam and swell like the standard Gorilla Glue.

i was just having a look at bunnings…
they have a “green gorilla glue”… supposed to be flexible / take impacts…

gel base…

Worth a shot as long as it suits ABS and Nylon Plastics.:+1:

this stuff…

Give it a try, i suppose… it should be removable if it eventually fails…

Was just reading the application guidelines and seems to be a good fit for your requirements.:+1:

As flexible as trump in a war losing / popularity fading position…!!

"Fantastic…great success…no one else can win a war, and pay the loser 300 Billion…genius…!!

Complete regime capitulation…they wanted 500 Billion, initially…!!"
 :rage: :face_vomiting: :rage:

Actually just read that it’s a CA type glue, meaning that I would avoid it!

The “flexible gel” pertains to the fact that it remains flexible for a few moments to adjust before setting solid.

I would DEFINITELY recommend the Gorilla Clear instead.:ok_hand:

Ok…
tried the clear gorilla glue.

Man, its goopy.!!

positive side…it doesnt set in 5 seconds, like supaglue…

Neg side… goopy, hard to accurately get a small amount where you want it…even when applying with a tooth pick.!!

I’ll let it set overnight, and see what 2morrow brings…!

hopefully a good fix…

Yep, can use super glue as well , but depends seeing as I’m on hold again listening to elevator music again .

I could weld it on

You only need a small dob on there… there should be a couple of lugs or a ridge that the rubber nozzle snaps onto anyway… makes for easy assembly in the factory. :person_shrugging:

Gorilla gloop it is…

only got a small amount on…hard to place it accurately.

Also…snapped a paddle pop stick, and glued it together.

That will give a seperate indication, of setting time…

it takes awhile to set…sticks are still slightly moveable…

Not too much of the gorilla. Needs a whole 24hrs to set minimum.
