The Shit Pit

Plenty available at reliable retailers for retail price.

Circumstance, I had to do it. They are really snappy and I haven’t tightened the timings up yet. Intel are similar price and bit doggy these days.

I dont have the grand plus for a full upgrade rn, still rocking a launch first gen 1600 ryzen, still does what i need but i do feel the pinch at times with its limits. Served me well enough its earned its retirement soon in a glass box.

Yea amd kicks intel around on cpu’s now days, should have brought stock back in 2015 when it was a dollar a share, buy a few grand then and you would have alot more now.

Similar, the old Intel 3770 had done a great job over the years.

Got to move to M.2 SSD. They make a big difference. My old MB wouldn’t support it.

They’ll probably have something better out next week

I had to eventually. Sata drive died, oh well no time like the present.

I would like to switch out my 12700KF for a ryzen 7 9800x3d.

Do it if you can afford it :+1:

See Gensen the sacked CEO of Intel is being sued now. Not meeting share holders required targets. About a quarter million dollars in 3 years of employment handouts and he run them down.

Intel are flat out building their production factories on US soil due to the chips act and threat of somebody else taking TSMC away. TSMC are also setting shop up in US. Political climate.

Still 12th gen Intel are great, I’d stick with it if can’t afford to upgrade.

It means I need a new CPU, board, and RAM. Will see how prices are in 2025 but Rn it’s just wishful thinking.

Yea I know as I said above, circumstance. I had to do it to keep conducting business. It’s not a toy for me to play games on only.

Something better with the new releases in January 2025 will come out anyway.

Its been all over the news, so a bit of a technical info , on the horrific 737-800 crash…

A few observations from the videos…
1: landing gear was not extended.
2: Flaps were fully retracted
3: it burst into flame, hitting the concrete barrier wall
4: they crashed, mere minutes after declaring a mayday.

re birdstrikes:
Yes, they can destroy engines, if you get a lot through.
They can also take out hydraulic lines (737 has 3 hydraulic systems).
Losing one engine is not a problem, plenty of performance available on one.

If you had a complete and total hydraulic failure ( we do this in the simulators), you will have…

  • Manual reversion on control cables ( very heavy but do-able…minimal inputs)
  • Manual gear extension ( gravity)
  • Electrical backup flap extension to flap 15.

Getting all this sorted, running the checklists takes time, something that did not happen. You would only choose to land as is, if a greater emergency exists. No one will know until the report is released.

Extending flaps is critical, it allows you to approach at a slower speed, around 140 kts, as opposed to the 210 kts required when clean ( nearly 400 km/hr) .

A gear up landing is survivable, the very sudden stop caused the bang.
Boeing does NOT reccommend foaming runways, it is of no benefit.

Historically, aircraft that have had overruns, onto unprepared grass / dirt flat-ish surfaces do survive. Sometimes the fuselage buckles or breaks as it offroads, but its mostly survivable.

We wont know until the report is out, but a no hydraulics , one engine go around, to run those checklists and return , should be doable after a birdstrike.

You would need a VERY good reason to just continue and land, as is…

Like, an uncontrollable fire.
Which is what they had at the end, anyway…

Horrible stuff.

Brisbane, northerly runways, sydney southern runways…

Run off the end and your in the drink…good for putting out fires…

Because I don’t have television/radio, I’m unaware of this crash or whatever caused it, but I follow plenty of Air Crash Investigation type dudes on YouTube… so I can actually understand pretty much everything that you have said!

The best one I’ve been following for many years is ex USAF Fighter Pilot/Officer, callsign “Hoover”, and his channel “Pilot Debrief”.

A very educational channel for us uneducated plebs indeed :ok_hand:

It’s all right you’re in the Gibson desert

Not the same but Military, US shot down their own roughly $80M F18 Super Hornet. 2 seat, pilots ejected one injured but stable.

My takeaway from that is they had a newly upgraded Ticeronda class cruiser supporting the strike group which fired the anti air missile.
As they were under direct strike from the rebels they launched everything to defend. All air assets and identify and classify.

Be under investigation still but the F18 has on board IFF(identify friend or foe) that “should” not let a friendly defence missile hit it.

The Commander of the boat will be court marshalled and be dishonorably discharged never allowed again. The responsibility falls back to the leader in charge.

Even if IFF failed due to technical, the commander will be ejected.

80M F18 at the bottom of Red sea. The whole strike group survived the rebel attack though.

It aint a computer game kids and not for the faint of heart.

Right, thats it…!!
