Apologies that I forgot you were going the Panel and Paint Apprenticeship, especially after all our conversations.
I was just talking to our local Panelbeaters only the other day, and even though they are the only ones for MILES in our rural area, and are VERY good at what they do so are absolutely flat chat every day of the year… they are going to be shutting shop at the end of this year.
They said it’s extremely hard to find and keep their Apprentices, because they are all leaving to go work for the mining towns up North for much better pay.
I have plenty of classic car/hot rod mates living in mining towns and are extremely frustrated that they can’t get ANY work done on their vehicles locally and have to drive/transport them thousands of kilometres down to Perth for the simplest jobs to get worked on.
This is because all the businesses up north are flat out doing work for the mining companies for big money, whereas the average locals are pushed to the side or simply can’t get anything done because they can’t be charged the same as a mining contract job.
Luckily I have four VERY good old school Panelbeaters/Spray painters that are mates who we have all known each other for many years, so I don’t have to worry about getting jobs done, but once the Local Panel and Paint business shuts, everyone in the region is screwed and has to travel to the nearest large City to get their jobs done.
These are two very good mates, Steve and Ian Brown, who are local, but DEFINITELY not in the business of General public panel/paint or insurance work!
We are always helping each other out with day to day stuff that we do for mates, and I have done a LOT of wiring jobs for them, including their Race Cars and personal classics.
So yeah, you can definitely crack into a good paying job with a Panel/Paint business that deals in Mining Contracts, who pay a lot more than the average shop down south, just gotta wait your time and maybe start researching exactly what jobs are available in your industry in the Mining regions while you are waiting.
