Cairns or Townsville?
“Dont make me say, … the C…word…”!!!
" Cairns, …on the boardwalk…"
Good, ole , piece of history…!!
I think those tanks are ex oz Army Leopard 1’s we have still got after upgrading to the Abrams. Big shed full of them somewhere as well as dotted as symbolic guards at near every RSL across Australia. As well as museums. Never scrapped or transferred them.
A local 105mm at the footy oval and memorial gates
Yup…… old retired Leopards are filling empty spaces all around Australia!
I have been there before…… but I have been many places and it’s difficult to remember exactly where everything was these days!
Maryborough, QLD…
Interesting family history of my Grandfather serving on the Cerebus as a Bofors Gunner, and learning more about all of these old Naval Guns still to be found in parks and museums around Australia
Bofors Training of Cerebus Crews.
Various Naval Guns such as the Maryborough Park ones above and many others can be found/located online.
Another piece of “War Art” that I have inherited is this Bofors 40mm cartridge which my Grandfather had turned into a Vase for my Grandmother.
He flared/grooved the top, machined a couple of decorative grooves on the sides and then ran a bolt through the primer that was originally fitted to a nice polished Jarrah base.
Also have many other of his “War Art” pieces that he made on board various ships throughout his service and are really awesome to still have in my possession
I remember, Maryborough, had a big old, green house dome, near the old post office…
And, it had old railway tracks, in the nearby gardens,
And, old cannons, near the river…
we used to play, on them, as kids…
Lots of fond, memories…
And now, for the “big bad biker of the week” award, check out this prick -
Oh, and also the clowns with him.
Real brave scum attacking a woman in the car with kids .
He is not a biker he is just a wannabe.
Pity she was not armed as it would have been a justifiable shooting.
One less oxygen thief
I was being sarcastic when I said “biker”
And she certainly stood up to the arsehole too.
And the Cops were RIGHT there amongst a whole bunch of unregistered bikes, idiots assaulting a woman and gun threats
The whole place is a joke
Are we talking about the ship they scuttled off Black Rock in Port Phillip Bay?
I got my SCUBA ticket diving on that old wreck back in the '80s… now I feel old
It used to be popular with kids as a jumping platform until the emergency rooms started filling up with kids lining up for stitches and tetanus shots.
It’s very difficult researching the history of the RAN as they have a habit of renaming their ships continuously!
I checked out his service records and the Cerberus, on which he served 3 times.
11/3/26 - 31/3/27
12/12/28 - 19/8/29
14/11/35 - 10/3/38
The original Cerberus was commissioned in 1871 and decommissioned in 1924…… which is the one sunk in the harbour.
It can certainly get very confusing when researching all of the ships that he served on, because they get renamed sometimes 2-3 times, which makes it fun researching them all
Here’s a good example………
Yeah… confusing to say the least.
Typical government service… clear as mud
