For me, its a bit personal, as i have had close, prolonged contact with a dark triad type. I recognise all the behaviours, and am repulsed by him. The trick is to be aware, but not give him to much attention.
In terms of it affecting us here, if trump gets elected, he has the ability to really upset global politics.
He has indicated his desire to leave NATO, appease putin and Xi pang.
The US is the backbone of the ANZUS alliance, and trump could walk away from that. Every indication is he will persue a “closed borders, closed country” isolationist policy.
If its not happening in USA, he doesn’t care about it.
This could embolden china to attack Australia, where intelligence is already saying we could be at war with them, within 10 years anyway. Its the threat of US retaliation keeping china at bay.
As per my article posted elsewhere, we are living in a era of the decline of democracy, more people are acquiescing to a “strongman dictator type”.
When they wrote the constitution in the states, Benjamin Franklin said "we have a Republic, if you can keep it”. He realized that the form of government they had established is fragile, and lapses easily into tyranny.
In short, trump is the dictator tyrant in waiting, who could really screw up global peace…
There is the saying, bad things happen, when good people do nothing.
In terms of basic human decency, trump is a force, that must be opposed.
