The used (abused) guns market

I may be delving in the dark murky waters of the used Gel Blaster market this weekend.

I have somewhat of a checklist of things I want to inspect

Visual damage
Fire several magazines to test function
Listen for weird gearbox sounds
Check FPS and RPS through a chrony

Anything else I should consider checking when buying used?

and yes I’ve seen @RokSolid’s secondhand market roast

Money saved, on purchase price, = money available for parts.

Most likely, your basically buying a tinkerer…

Sellers, may have “high expectations” of what something is worth.

I’d say 50-60% of the new RRP, is reasonable for something with no faults, in pretty good nick…

Have fun achieving that.!!
:grinning::grinning:

I buy quite a lot of second hand, ex demo, dead stock etc… well a lot of blasters in general haha

Main thing to look for if you don’t mind tinkering is that all the parts that aren’t easy to get are there and good. Bit of wear and tear just brings the price down. As does broken internals not working etc.

Even if it does work… especially if the owner has “upgraded” it don’t expect it to work for long.

In my experience anything upgraded is worth less than a stock blaster because there is every chance they have been hungry and made a meal of it.
Depends on what is inside as to what it is worth.

Basically if you can get it for the price that it isn’t bad if it’s going to break that’s good.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. :joy:

You should have seen the first blaster I bought off an ex forum member.

Oh dear there was big fucking problems with that bugger took me nearly a year to recorrect. It was boogered with  WI GB was fucked and had alignment issues.

Yeah bargain for $600 and a day driving to get it but that was years ago.

Fk me get a real one for less

I only really look for the broken ones on the used market. Cheap, people are usually happy to get rid of them and it gives me something to do. I’ll even take 'em with shattered gearboxes, cos that box is coming out and getting torn down anyway.

Last few “not working” blasters I’ve picked up for a song worked just fine when a charged up lipo was put into them. Almost disappointing, because I was looking for a project.

Just don’t take a lipo when you go looking or they might up the price once they know their blaster’s not really broken at all… and take Rok’s advice about checking all the hard to get parts. Example, an RX AKM47 recently for $30 that was missing the upper receiver cover. Yeah… nah… yeah… nope

Oh common man, AK’s run without an upper receiver…

Must be worth a few rubles.

   :+1: :australia:

Sorry getting Loose tonight after a hectic 2 weeks. It’s gotta be done or I will need some loupes from Beemer   :+1:

On the way home now with my new (used) purchase :grinning:

Good job Jug. You’ll be be alright and hopefully don’t need loops  :+1: :australia:

Happy with the pickup (for now) we’ll see how it goes on Sunday. Lovely lady that bought 2 of them for her son’s but they got used twice and never touched again. That’s the story anyway. Still had the receipt from Tac Edge.

Putting out 18 RPS and 325FPS

SLR ION 9.7

They had the tongues upside down in the hopup so no wonder they never got into it

SLR ions are great… metal cyma box inside!

Yeah I discovered that cyma factoid today  I know who to turn to for upgrade advice!

We also have the 4.25" version in tan

Awesome, go well with them. Pics when you get time  :v:

Good pickup with that gearbox in it, for sure. :+1:

I’m guessing DB Marketplace? It’s about the only place to go for used gear these days.

Indeed the gearbox was a bonus.

Do you mean FB Market place? I dont have FB but google lets you do a very limited search without an account, once spotted I had to use Mrs Jugs FB account to get in touch with the seller.

And yep FB MP is the only place I’ve seen stuff for sale, Gumtree is worthless for selling stuff now. I have a Mountain bike up for sale on GT and FB, only FB is getting any attention.

Yea, just be wary of scammers…

When I sold my Landrovers 2 of, on gumtree I got smashed within hours.

An obvious scammer wanted me to pay about 1700 to a bank account that was “the transport” company.

I said nope. I don’t care I’ll park em both in the scrub. You want it, you pay transport out of here.

Eventually went through a couple hours later with a different buyer that is an enthusiast for Landrovers so they went interstate and worked out fine as he was genuine.

It is tricky, but scammers are easy to spot as they ask you things out of the norm and make up stories to distract you.

:+1: sry just rambling on while I got time. :joy:

Best scam I saw on the real steel market was a guy selling a M94 30/30, pre 64’ model.

His license was a Photoshop job but he’d left one of the corners of his license at a 90 degrees angle instead of rounded off.

Once I asked for a photo of his license next to the serial number of the rifle he went dark

In the end I found another M94 in 30/30 that was 1960 production

I got a couple of blasters I wanted to clear cause I’ll be moving soon, wasn’t sure where a good place to post them would be though.

Facebook Marketplace if you want a buck.

There are some Facebook buy / sell groups but enter at your own risk. Be prepared for lots of bullshit.

I’m pretty sure the buy / sell thread on this forum’s pretty much dead stick. :person_shrugging:

I have sold stuff on FB ages ago before they got real anal about this kinda stuff, and I’ve also sold stuff on the old forum but yeah there’s not really space on this one anymore.
