Tight Magazine

Hi Everyone,

Recently purchased a new magazine which is rather tight in my APS Noveske, by inserting it and removing it several times I can see the high spots where its contacting the mag well.

Plan is to slowly file down some of these area’s with a sanding stick until it has a smooth fit, any flaws with this idea or words of wisdom before I get stuck in?

I’ve done that before. I used a flat file and took a bit down inside the magwell, the ribs you can see inside the magwell. Not the actual magazine.

Only needs a bit, not take the whole rib out and make it sloppy. Do a bit at a time and keep checking fitment.

You could try the magazine I guess but there is not much to play with on them and it looks crappy. Plus by doing the magwell you have compatibility for your desired magazines instead of doing each magazine singulary.

It is easiest down with an empty lower receiver. Done it heaps of times on my M4s to make SLR mags fit as they are a little wider than most.
It usually ends up looking like it has had thousands of mags in an out, just do a bit at a time, then check with the mag you will see where the file needs to go as you do it

If you are going to paint it after, you’ll need to file a little extra, I don’t bother with making the mag well pretty!

Yep it’s an SLR mag. I’ve filed down the ribs inside the mag well to make it a better fit, won’t drop out when the mag release is pushed but it’s pretty close so I’ll leave it at that. Imagine it’ll loosen up a bit more with use.

All good with the scratching as I’ve weathered this blaster to look like hell.

The standard gen 8 mags are pretty loose now so might need to stick with SLR.

Speaking of the SLR mags, is the sliding plate at the bottom of the magazine used for cleaning purposes?

Yes, the plate comes off easy enough, just push the button in and slide it off.
Then need to punch a pin out (so you still need tools!) and the inner section will slide out.
