True or false

I was speaking to a tech at one of the local shops

They said using an 11.1v battery with nylon gears will strip the gears is a fallacy, that it won’t strip the gears

True or false?

I have always run 11.1v and only ever stripped the nylon gears in an early MP7. Only other blaster I’ve stripped gears in was a metal geared ACR.

Interesting, a lot of other information Ive come across was saying 11.1v batteries in nylon gears, or blasters designed for 7.4v batteries causes excessive wear on the nylon gears and other internals…

Hmm, tactics to sway people into buying more expensive, higher powered blasters perhaps?

MY TWO CENTS WORTH

Bad shimming strips nylon gears…
Too heavy piston springs will too…
Worn or broken gear bushes will too…
Springs breaking and getting caught up will too…
Too strong a motor will too…

A well shimmed nylon gearbox should handle 11.1v no problem provided the gears are decent quality nylon and t’s not trying to rack back an m120+ spring.

I’ve got several nylon geared boxes with M100s in them in that have been happily banging away for a long time. They’re correctly shimmed and regularly lubed.

That tech’s passing on second hand opinion, which doesn’t sound like it’s based on any personal experience. :person_shrugging:

That makes sense, definitely a lot broader explanation than I was given at the store.

He wanted to put an 11.1v battery in the QBZ 95 you donated, I asked to stick with the 7.4v as it was for the young fella and he’d spam triggered his hk416 until the trigger stopped responding so I figured best to play it safe and stick to the 7.4v. it was at that point he kind of got the shits and said 11.1v stripping nylon gears was a fallacy.

I just wanted it to last as long as possible as I don’t know better myself so playing it safe was the best option in my opinion

In any case, I better not name who it was then :joy:

I wouldn’t run an 11.1v on that early generation QBZ… it’s only a 370 motor from memory.

If you really like the platform, the later versions with the better boxes and 460 short motors in them should handle 11.1v okay.

Yeah I figured with it being an early version of it, it was best not to push my luck with an 11.1v battery.
