You Don't Mess with the BOHAN..! ( Bohan MPX review)

So, lets go…!!

If you haven’t seen the Adam Sandler movie,
“You dont mess with the Zohan”… do yourself a favour and see it.!

an underrated movie, its ridiculously absurd and hilarious with adam sandler as a israeli counter terrorist, who just wants to be a hairdresser…

Anyway … the bohan MPX.

Why bother, i hear you ask, when you already have a standard one.?.?

What piqued my interest, was a longer receiver front end, longer barrel with a supp, inbuilt hop up , and folding stock, of a type i dont have…

So, first things first…

Solid build, with a sturdy stock.

The release spring in the stock is way too firm…you break your hands tring to release it.
I unscrewed the mechanism, and cut about 1cm off the stock spring.
That gets it down to a light amount of force required to cycle it properly.

It has blowback…which can be selectively disabled.

If you insert a mag and start firing, the cover cycles.
If you use mag prime, it locks the cover back, and it doesn’t cycle.
If you want it to cycle, you push the release lever to free it.

A nice touch, and a easy way to disable blowback.

The mags are slightly different from the Lehui brand…

Bohan on the left.
The little pin sticking out, moves the gel retaining latch at the top.
Doesn’t quite fit and work properly with different brands interchangability…

Standard performance is around 220-230 fps OOTB.
It prefers the slightly smaller gels…it can jam on larger ones.
The inbuilt hopup works, giving it a bit more range.

Batteries…

it seems to like 11v better.
A bit of double feeding, on 7v.

You have to pull the handguard off to fit the battery.
No biggy, as the push button is on the lower receiver.
Then, remove the supp.
Battery space is a bit tight…shown is the xforce 11v stick…

It does fit in …just…but rubbing up against the supp.

That carries the risk of rubbing wires etc, so i opted for a smaller 11v.
Less capacity, but it sits further back, no pressure on the supp, and all wiring away from it…

Its super easy to pull apart.
2 pins and its off…split gearbox style…

(forgot to take photo of that.!)

Rear pin out, and it levers up for easy spring changes…

Unscrew the spring retainer at the rear, and you’re off and racing…
easy spring change, thats a beautiful thing…

How much clearance on the t piece when tilting the top cover?
I know of many broken t pieces from people getting excited swinging the top cover!:flushed:

So, i started off with a M-95.

The standard spring is around m95 length, but thinner.
The m95 saw some gains…

260 fps…reasonable…but room for more.
I was thinking of doing a custom M98 spring ( cut down M100)…but…

The spring retainer was plastic and would not like a sharp edge up against it.

it would whirl , twirl, and destroy the retainer in the long run…

The m100 spring was longer than standard…but…
metal gears and gearbox…give it a go…!!

I make you silky smooth… i tell you this…!!

So , M100 in…

On 7v…

The slower ROF makes the small mags last a bit longer…

11v…

Now where talking…!!
Though, the mag doesn’t last long.
They do make a drum mag for these though…

To be honest, i was expecting a slightly higher fps, given it has a longer barrel.

Maybe the air seal could do with a bit of an upgrade…or the hopup is slowing things slightly.

But, i’m happy to leave it, as at the current 300fps with a hop up, its pretty consistent accuracy wise ( as well as gel can be).

a couple of pics, with the stock off…

it gives off mp5-sd vibes…

All in all, a good little budget blaster.
Solid build, nice stock, inbuilt hopup, and easy upgrades.!

remaining stock is a bit thin on the ground, though…

It seems to have enough clearance…

open it slowly, close it slowly… it goes down without too much resistance…

slow and steady seems to be the trick.!
