Calling all blaster owners to action

The time to act is now. I know us Aussies are politically submissive… but we don’t want this to sink a part of our lives we innocently enjoy.

I am a template below, which I recommend you send your federal and state member of your electorate.

You can copy paste, or put your own spin on it.
What is important is as many of us are recognised and heard as possible.

Find out who you state and federal members are, any senators you can, and send an email… it will take you minutes but may save our hobby as we know it.

They wear suits and stuff, so be respectful, courteous, and professional… but stay on point and unified with the community. And don’t delay. For yourself, and the gel community.

The email basis to which I have sent, for guide or copy paste if you are short on time:

Subject:
Concerns Regarding Proposed Firearm and Imitation Firearm Reforms

Dear [Title and Surname],

[Insert a brief introduction of yourself]

I am writing as a concerned constituent regarding the proposed firearm and imitation firearm reforms currently being advanced by the Labor Government Jan 2026.

While I fully support evidence-based measures that genuinely improve public safety, I am extremely concerned that these reforms are being rushed and that their scope is overly broad, with insufficient consultation. Showing negligence of the government towards the people and businesses of Australia.

In particular, the proposed wording under Item 186, Sub regulation 4F(4) appears to significantly expand the definition of firearms and skirmish markers to include devices that shoot plastic, polymer, or hydrated super-absorbent polymer balls, as well as darts, discs, or similar projectiles of any material. As drafted, this risks capturing clearly non-lethal items such as Gel blasters and NERF blasters and other recreational or professional equipment.

These changes could have serious unintended consequences, including:

Economic harm to retailers, importers, and small businesses causing spiked unemployment at a time where the country can not afford the added costs with cost of living already in such a poor state.

Negative impacts on mental health and community recreation as thousands of people use these items as a sport and hobby.

Damage to Australia’s film and television industry, which relies on safe, non-functional props.

I respectfully ask that you advocate for a more measured approach — one that includes proper consultation with industry and the public, clearer legislative definitions, and a careful assessment of economic and social impacts.

For these reasons, I strongly urge you to oppose the proposed reforms in their current form and to support a more balanced, evidence-based process and support small business and commonsense.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Kind regards,
[Your Full Name]
[Your Suburb / Electorate]

When did anyone successfully convert an airsoft or gelsoft blaster?

This is nothing more than fear mongering to the uneducated Public to try and justify the banning of Gelblasters/NERF “guns” by making them sound more dangerous than they actually are.

It’s IMPOSSIBLE to convert a Gelblaster or NERF toy into an actual Firearm, but this fact doesn’t stop the Government and Police from making these false statements to push their agenda. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

As far as the laws are concerned, they already exist in any situation where someone uses a replica weapon to commit a crime that they are treated as a real Firearm and penalties are already in place to treat them this way.

Saying that they are an issue because of their appearance is yet another bullshit argument where Laws already exist for these offences.

Same argument they used in WA for that shit show.

I also like how they say “despite being largely non-lethal”…

Nail guns are more dangerous than gelblaster /NERF guns so why don’t they classify them as firearms. They can cause serious injuries and even death. To be fair under the stupid logic of the one who make the new gun laws, Nail guns should be firearms. Tennis Ball Machines should also be firearms.

New Zealand have both airsoft guns and real guns do they have any problems with airsoft guns look like real guns? Do they classify airsoft guns as real firearms? So it means we are worse than our little brother New Zealand,

“increasing public concern” do anyone see any member of the public holding a M16 walking down the street?

The one who draft this new laws are full of bullshits.

How do you convert them…??

Well, thats easy…

1: get a gelblaster…
2: remove one screw, from the gelblaster…
3: Insert that one screw, into a real firearm…

4: Viola…conversion, from gelblaster, to real firearm…

What a joke…but we’re not laughing…

Hey everyone… Sorry if I am a bit lacking in participation here.
The fight for the future of our beloved hobby is on.

Almost ALL retailers and fields are in communications with each other trying to save the future of the sport. An unprecedented show of will and co-operation.

I have sent countless emails and messages endlessly over the last two days, many phone calls, and so have the other stakeholders. We are in this together, working on a unified response to this rushed through bill which while not affecting current ownership and enjoyment of the hobby, may affect the hobby’s ability to continue in the future.

Do. Not. Stop!

Keep emailing senators and MPs. Even if it is just to thank the ones who voted against it that failed, every bit of sentiment is required from everyone for our happy little niche community to be heard.

Other possibilities:

The bill even covers digital distribution of information on assembly of firearms, and by extension “markers”. That means any tech related videos I have need to be deleted.
It may also mean any posts here and everywhere else covering tech work need to be deleted.

By extension, I may not be able to carry out tech work, as I am not a qualified “armourer”.
The list of possibilities goes on. The bill is vague and ambiguous enough that the simple fun we had with toys may become a serious offence.

2026 is off to a rough start for us.

Mate, what a shitshow. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Highlights how inconsidered and ill worded sweeping reforms can have a ripple effect that none of these bozos who voted yes to this knee-jerk bill would have a clue about.

I hope commonsense wins out and you can continue to do what you love, matey… all.of us. :crossed_fingers:

Those who said gelblaster can be converted to real firearms don’t even know basic physics. Real guns are made of steel because firing a bullet produce a lot heat and pressure within the firearm and only steel can withstand those things. Gelblasters/airsoft guns are made of aluminum which will break apart if firing a real bullet. So those who draft this law should be shot by their physics teacher.

Did you see the WA press conference.??

Never let the truth, get in the way, of a desired narrative…

And meanwhile…

Drugs run rampant, home invasions still happen, drugged up nutters driving around, islamic extremists spew hate…

but…

nerf and gel, are a " serious issue"…

Get real…

Do we have a list of Queensland senators who voted for the law or voted against the law

We need to send an email to those senators who voted for the law expressing our disappointment that they have placed at risk a Queensland wide sport enjoyed by thousands and a retail sector that positively contributes to State’s economy and provides employment to many

We also need to send an email to those Senators who voted against it, thanking them for their support
