The Deputy Minister Jarrod Bleijie is a HUGE supporter of the Hobby, maybe get in touch with him in regards to which Politicians we are needing to apply pressure onto?
SSAA will have a list ontheir website
If you have the time to spare, here’s the Government list of all of the Senators who voted on the new Laws.
You have to click on each party member, then in their profile will have “Latest Speech” listed detailing their responses to the new Laws.

I would like to help but I feel like being out of state won’t help.
It’s a federal law, so every state is affected.
Every voice counts.
Last I checked this morning it has been passed at the Federal lvl, some of the laws have been in my State since 1996. Like ASIO and Medical background checks. Guess NSW is slow. Very slow. Like I’ve said before hundreds of times not one state could agree to a common law even under the Federal law and here we are 30 years later still doing nothing.
Airsoft is now permitted as they have created a category for them and gel blasters HOWEVER they have slipped in appearance laws to this category, so this means pretty much all of them will now be prohibited imports that resemble AR15s, AKs and the like.
Gel Blaster businesses will only be able to import bolt action appearance toys as anything that resembles Category D will be prohibited, so most of them that remain will fold.
It means that if your State allows gel blasters, you can still own them but you won’t be able to get any new ones as they are prohibited imports due to appearance now.
It means that what’s here already will sky rocket in price as it’s now all banned from import.
Ozzie Reviews post on facebook
What about import of parts, for servicing, in the future.?
If they handle it like they’ve handled airsoft parts up until now, it stands to reason gel blaster parts will be a prohibited import too. Just like airsoft parts if they are labelled and identified as such. ![]()
The other issue is, if retail prices on existing AU stock go thermal, you might think that would drive the price of secondhand ones up accordingly.
It might… on the sketchy proviso that a suitable forum exists to legally sell them.
Any info on that aspect of the changes?
In other words, IF they allow Airsoft Gelblasters to remain legal BUT introduced Appearance Laws to apply to them…then ANY Gelblasters that anyone currently owns become ILLEGAL by default.
This would wipe out the bulk percentage of Gelblaster Hobby Store’s inventory straight off the bat, get rid of Gelblasters out of people’s hands, make the 2nd hand market illegal and highly restrict the ability to purchase/import new Blasters and associated parts as well.
It’s the Governments way of effectively “banning” Airsoft/Gelblasters but in the public eye having the excuse that “Oh no, we didn’t kill the whole industry, we actually “agreed” to legalise them.” ![]()
Reminds me of the same methods used during COVID.
“Oh no, we can’t legally FORCE you to take a needle, but if you don’t, you simply won’t be allowed to keep your job/enter a hospital/leave the house/buy food etc.”
If they’re bringing in appearance laws like that than they better be banning every piece of wood, every can of paint, every piece of pipe as well cause that makes just as much sense. Also all those cheap plastic toy guns you get from the dollar stores.
There’s so many other things affected by such stupid laws that they clearly don’t see or even bother to think about.
Guys I’ve been pouring through the info.
Federal gov has brought in appearance laws for the importation only, not local market/possession. So you can’t import an AR15 looking gelblaster. Bar none.
This is at the Federal level and for import only. All current B709’s revoked.
States still have to work out what their state is doing and get things happening.
Legalize airsoft but you can’t import an AR15 airsoft toy. What are these people smoking.
Make an airsoft pot plant

I feel sorry for @RokSolid and AKGB, it’s just undone all the hard work they have put in. ![]()
Wonder if it’s in like response to multiple states refusing to take part in the buyback scheme etc. " Well if we can’t stop them here we’ll just stop them from getting in", hmm sounds like that should be applied to other areas of things coming in/out of Aus aside from toys ![]()
And so they’re basically strangling an entire million dollar industry, potentially adding to unemployment and putting multiple businesses and people into debt for no legitimate reason.
Ban , and fine.
Standard govt response, to… anything really …
Yea, they gave the home affairs minister the power recently to do whatever he wants. He can ban any rifle or anything he wants now.
I don’t get it, why legalize airsoft, then ban the import of them. It makes no sense at all. Why even bother.
This is going to take all year to get sorted to see what is what. Bit like 1996 was a cluster.
Meanwhile I’m going to beemers shop is open for business ![]()
If stupid NSW had the ASIO and Medical background checks in like my state has had in for 30 years I can guarantee Bondi would not have happened and we would not be where we are today.
Knee jerk overreaction to a states incompetence.
Thanks, @Maiphut
So that I’m clear on this…
There’s no ban on currently owned gel blasters in QLD and S.A… so far.
Shops can still legally sell stock of domestic gel blasters already imported but can’t order in any new stock due to the appearance clause.
If you take the circumstances in S.A. where blasters are subject to the same laws as real firearms, a South Australian real steel gun dealer can sell real guns and reorder stock to replace what they sell.
A South Australian gel blaster retailer can sell gel blasters but once his existing stock is gone, he’s fucked… can’t replace stock.
Banning on appearance makes no sense when we already have legislation and laws covering the ownership of replica weapons… Denix and such.
What an absolute cluster fuck of legislation.
So if Airsoft is legal now does that mean you could potentially convert what’s here already to Airsoft without prosecution so long as you don’t point it at or shoot anyone and abide by the general rules of gel blasters?

Not me I can’t even put a gel blaster back together properly ![]()

According to the law, yes… you could.
