Cracked Silveredge replacement

Hi all,

Discovered a crack in my stock APS Noveske blaster last night, from what I understand it has a Silveredge gearbox which is prone to cracking

Having not replaced a shell or gearbox before, wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a replacement?

Bugger the dredded APS. Decent V2 compatible replacement does the job as long as you have all the other parts to go with it.

Picked this up locally today as a replacement, the APS receiver needs some Dremel loving for the mag terminals to pass through but should be an interesting exercise

I’ve got some funky Silveredge Split Gear boxes that I sent to ZeHamish on the old Forum that he was quite blown away with! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I still have quite a few brand new in the factory boxes in my inventory in the storage unit, and would be happy to send one through for you to trial out. :+1:

Very generous of you mate, I’m halfway through shimming the new LDT LDX gearbox so I think I’m sorted for now. Hopefully I don’t need to replace any more gearboxes in the near future!

Loving the three hex screws to undo during shimming Vs the x 8 Phillips heads

Air seal on the new box was surprisingly crap. Cobbled together a partially used LDT double oring cylidner head, a nozzle that had a stock CYMA rubber tip glued onto it, kept the original piston but replaced it with one I had spare from akgelblaster AU.

Air seal tested well so see how that goes

LDT LDX cylinder head, nozzle and piston head.

Everything is trial and error mate, no matter what the brand or “double o-ring” or anything………. It’s always a mix and match of whatever parts actually achieve the results that you are chasing! :+1:

Having bits on hand has been great… right up until you use the last one and suddenly become very aware of it. Time to stock back up

Story time!

Recently got this E&C cheap in non working order.
Early model that has the LDX basic but red.

It was an arsehole, every step of the way!
It went from just get it working… to all the moving parts and airseal stuff got replaced. Even needed a new grip as the original one stripped the screws and didn’t have the twisty plate thingy.

Now sporting solid bushes, 13:1 gears missing 3 teeth, M110 spring, AKgelblasterAU piston and piston head, alloy cylinder head and new nozzle, with a M150 “super motor”… Oh and a full rewire was needed.

Got a hopup barrel from Mr Summer Cat, shoots quite straight and far now, doing a nice almost 30rps at 320-330fps.

Was meant to be a cheap “fixer-upper”, but got the works and now it goes hard. Got it’s fair share of action at a game on the weekend and lasted well.

It’s always good to have a few spares on hand that’s for sure! I’m glad I did- used quite a bit of inventory on this prick!

Do you have some pictures of those split silveredge gearboxes?

I am currently out bush, but will be heading back to town on Sunday, so will go to the storage unit and take some pics for you.:+1:

They ain’t fancy, but they’re cheap!
ZeHamish was able to get some decent performance out of them though.:ok_hand:

Bit of WA Salvage humor there DB

Awesome to see that you got the “WA Salvage” reference @Jug !

I never expected anyone from the Eastern States to pick up what I was putting down!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

For reference, this was the hardware buying experience in WA during the 90’s

They are a nice finished unit, though.

The overall detailing, finish and appearance is quite good.

I reckon, that’s the closest to picking a gel blaster up, and being able to say…

“It’s just like the real thing”…

Funny thing is @Jug , I met that bloke several times over the years and he’s actually a Pommy immigrant!

Can’t remember his name, but it’s definitely not Luigi :joy:

Very nice fella, but weird talking with him in his thick natural English accent!

I’ve still got a 3" bench vice from WA Salvage, funny thing is back then WA salvage gear was considered sub-par but I can tell you that the bench vise is better or as good as middle of the road stuff now!

Might not have been “fancy” and cheap, but 100% better than the crap that we get out of China/Taiwan from Bunnings these days. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Managed to fire a magazines worth with some feeding issues then this happened :expressionless:

It’s running 13:1 gears and a T238 29k motor. I was confident with the shimming so not sure if this is a quality thing or I’ve screwed it up somehow.

Not sure where to go from here, try again with bushings?
