Golden Eagle gas shotties...( Or, you need to come out of your Shell)

Neat little mag pouch. I will hopefully have one of these tomorrow, ordered a couple spare mags, one is going to be pulled apart to see if I too can model and extended mag, without a teabag string.

I’d also like a limited capacity flush mag, but at this stage have very little idea how it will go.

One problem I think might arise with a flush mag, after having put a couple dozen through mine, is the actual mag release, it doesn’t push the mag out but rather just unlocks it to be pulled out. I think the airsoft version when you open that cover plate it pushes the shell out enough to grab but the gel version doesn’t do that.

It does have a pin that pushes down when you press the release but it doesn’t have enough force behind it to actually push the mag out to a point it would self release.

In saying all that you may need to add a groove our something to the base of it to give a finger hold to pry it out.

the spring in the mag is quite thin, so you might be able to modify a stock on, cut the spring down to the length of the shortened feed tube and remove the string as the gels being pushed in by the speed loader should be enough force to compress it but not break the gels, they might just empty out when taking the loader off thou.

oh and be aware of two tiny springs if you pull one apart, they hold the stopper thing closed and don’t seem to be held captive apart from the casing itself, otherwise there’s only 5 self tapping screws holding it together.

I have no doubt there will be challenges, and many binned attempts!
Some great insights into the future though.

I am sure that GE went for the first option that worked and was cheapest to mass produce.

I mean, spare mags are $15.58 from iHobby at the moment if buying enough for the discount… so a bunch of them is not really a problem.

Did you see the comments on Akgelblaster’s Discord with the battery fed mags for these?

I’m not actually in that discord so no unfortunately.
Was that something they were getting as an aftermarket or someone making them?

Pretty sure that it was someone was home making them in Asia, using tiny rechargeable electric feed mechanisms out of an Airsoft/Gelblaster Pistol magazine I think.

Ahh, sounds about right. I imagine the hardest part would be the mechanism to tell the system when to feed, like sensor in shaker mags.

nah guy locally here in qld.

Some more pics, showing the adapter, battery types and placement -

And some info from the person who designed it -

You can say what you like about GSAU, but there are some very smart people on there.

Is that $250 per adaptor? That’s crazy for what it is will the final product be CNC’d aluminium or something? do they chuck the battery in with it? Thou they’re only like $5 anyway…

I know how much time and materials go into prototyping stuff like this but that just feels excessive. Hardware and electronics would only cost like $10 a unit too, and once the model is zeroed in material used would be maybe $5 worth, they must be charging a lot in labour.

I was mentioning it as the basis of an idea that people here might consider into designing and making their own using this concept.

Definitely would be cheaper than buying one of these and be a great little project to play with.:+1:

It’s great seeing different people’s takes on the same project don’t get me wrong, but seeing ppl asking crazy amounts of money for something (to me at least) just irks me.

Those dodgy little nik nak stores that sell 3D printed dragons and shit irk me the most, most of the stuff they sell would be on a non commercial license, there was one near work and they wanted $80 for a dragon I could get off thingy and print for like $10 (including print time).

I did see Etsy was cracking down on that sort of thing thou which is a good thing imo.

It is always great to see people’s ingenuity and ideas come to life very true.

100% if it was a CNC aluminium product then he’ll yeah 250 quid is acceptable, 3d printed though you’d have to be nuts to think it’s worth that. Guy said he will be making two a night, so his P1s, $1499 printer and material will pay for itself in around 7-8 adaptors. Nuts.

For now mags are only $19 each, cheap as. I am gonna be happy to butcher one to see what I can come up with.

Oath. Assuming they’re only two or three parts, you could print at least 4 at a time over night easy, and if you were to use the nylon stuff or even ABS GF, they’re like $50-$70 for 1kg.
Depending on they’re print settings maybe 50g>100g of filament each so not even $5 worth of material.

$250 a pop they’d be making a Hella good profit.

Now they’re well within their rights to charge whatever they want for them, but that doesn’t mean ppl would be willing to spend that much on it.

If you can sell a lot of something cheap at a lower price instead of a few at a higher, I know which one is more likely to be better in the long run.

I have had a good bit of fun today with the shorty.
Chrono didn’t like it one bit, multiple gels at once or the gas just couldn’t get a reading from more than one gel per shot… Or an alleged single gel. Might have been reading all 3/6 gels as one… or gas. Even tried standing back a metre and still got some wild readings.

Not all 6 shots were on the 3 gels setting, and all registered as “1” gel/shot.

Can say if you only load a single gel it is pretty wild though, and since it will sometimes only load 2of 3, or 4 of 6, and the mag only holds “15” gels… it is likely the last shot of a mag is gonna be pretty spicy!

They say the mag holds 15 gels… if they are on the smaller side then yes… but the spring is tough enough to launch them out of the mag with a slight bump. Using full size gels that hold on the mag well it’s more like 13 gels.

Fun and satisfying to use, good fun. Pretty gas efficient to as it isn’t cycling anything just launching gels. Taking it for some field time tomorrow to see if it’s fun as a secondary, instead of a pistol. Should make for some laughs at least!

I think I’ve only done one full tanks worth of gas and have gotten probably 20 mags so far and can still get more, thou mine bring that buffer tube version I think holds a fair bit more gas than those in the grip.

Got any idea how it’s powered on and off? Surely it doesn’t feed all the time?

That detail isn’t described, though I would guess it is a “shaker” style actuation. Have not investigated the possibilities but perhaps a momentary switch somehow could also work.

I am guessing the feeding issue he lends to means it is only loading 1-2 gels, which makes the blaster shoot very “hot”. I found loading a single gel would see readings well over 400fps, not just a little over… WELL over!

Using smaller gels that reliably fed well would see 2 of 3 gels roll out of the barrel if pointed down, and smaller gels also had a issue where the spring would overpower the mag stop, sending most of them out of the mag when bumped… I have been using larger gels (7.5-7,6mm) from the oversize sorting! Though that can lead to only loading 1 or 2 instead of 3 occasionally… which means they are hot AF.

Using the 6 gel setting, would more often see it chambering 3-4 gels, and sometimes 5 or 6. That brings the fps down quite a bit, but still when I had the missus shoot me a few times with it, there was 1 or 2 very pokey ones, and a couple of gels bouncing around the room.
For the most part, most shots did fire the amount of gels it was meant too, but limited capacity in the mags, leads to the last shot being a bit lean on the loading.

Now bear in mind, I bought the shortest, lowest fps version, longer ones are alleged to be hotter. It could run lower power gas than the normal 12kg green gas, like 134a… which you can’t buy unless you are a fridgey! That is what the TM version was made to use originally.

If I owned an indoor CQB field, I wouldn’t allow them to be used. That would be the responsible decision. UNLESS, it was an “uber” session, and every player didn’t mind the risk based on the reality of the blaster, and the player using it.

This from early testing -

But, I couldn’t find any more info on what he ended up using.

450-500fps… dwaaaam

Every shot you’d be like “cop that ya dog” :joy::rofl:
