Bit of a M92 EBB update…with a bit of use…
So far, ive found the Green cats gels to work the best.
I had been using the i-hobby blues…but had some feeding issues.
They would jam up top, where the mag narrows to one gel.
You would need to pull the mag out, and jiggle the spring at times.
green cats seem to feed better, with less jams.
I haven’t controlled growth them, just the usual 4 hrs+…
I might try some controlled growth, of 2:15 which Brad reccommends…

The occasional feeding issue is annoying.
Hopefully, the “controlled growth” of the greens might see higher reliability.
Not that many shredded gels, either.
Interestingly…
with pure range… the hopup uzi, running greens at 200 fps…
Gets better range than the 230 fps M92.
The uzi hopup works…range is extended by about a further 8m…
Thats a lot, for a 200 fps CQB blaster…
I was quite surprised by how well the integrated hopup actually works.!
I have a hopup coming, for the M92…lets see what that does…!
EBB is also much quieter than GBB, so better for backyard use…

Worth noting the Summer Cat greens… great gel, hold their slippery outer surface and size for quite a while, which I love!
Recommended growth for those not sorting is 2hr 15mins.
Have also talked to a few that put them in tap cold water, then put the bottle in the fridge overnight. They do sort them after, but highly recommend that process. I have not tried it yet.
Personally, I hate sorting, but it is becoming something I do. And I grow them for 3 hours.
I have my sorter set different from most, everything 7.25mm and under in the first bottle, 7.25mm to 7.45mm in the middle, and everything over that goes in the GE shotty or garden.
I have heard awesome feedback on the new SC oranges, apparently hold that slippery surface in open air for a long time, perfect for gas pistols etc… yet to test though.
Original SC pearls, decent, do recommend a 3-4 hour grow and sorting though.
The SC milkies I really liked, very few if any oversize on a completely uncontrolled grow, and they arent super hard so well suited to more standard blasters which I test loads of.
To be honest, sorting is unfortunately the way to go, as otherwise you just can’t be assured of what you get. Gel things. It is an expense of cash and time to do it, but it will be better than a broken blaster from a nasty jam, and beats getting jams. I would actually say it works out similar in time sorting, to time spent clearing jams for uncontrolled long gel grows.
I have the NEW SC pearls and oranges, and also glows will have feedback on them in coming weeks. At the moment testing is not something I have time for, still frantically getting jobs done and blasters ready!
To hop or not to hop… that is the question.
Two blasters with very similar FPS, one with a hop up, one without will record very similar chrono readings when the chrono is a couple of inches from the muzzle. Makes sense, yeah?
What becomes obvious is the difference in gel velocity between the two at increasing ranges. Yesterday’s plinking in the backyard with Beemer’s modified UZI and comparing it to mine seemed to highlight this.
At a range of about 5 metres the unhopped unit seemed to be smacking the target much harder than the hopped unit. You could clearly hear the difference, and as the range increased, it seemed the unhopped gel reached it’s target faster, so you have to assume a higher velocity. Sure, the hopped UZI seemed to give a longer distance of level flight before drop and better grouping, but the overall range between the two seemed the same. I’d even go so far as to say the unhopped UZI hit targets at about 18+ metres harder and the range with aim correction was greater.
I’ve noticed this effect before… gels seem to slow down faster with backspin applied. Other unhopped blasters I have seem to be weaker with a hop up on, even though the chrono results at the muzzle remains unchanged.
I don’t believe hop ups really increase range at all… maybe level flight distances increase, but if it were at all possible to measure it, I’d bet that an unhopped gel at the same muzzle FPS would actually travel further, just not as linear or level.
For mine, at CQB ranges, a blaster like the UZI requires no hop up.
But we all knew that already.

The trick with smooth feeding…seems to be “loading the mag properly”.
i.e. ensuring there are no “gaps” between gels, while loading.
when loading the mag, with the fill hole facing up, gently tilt the far side of the mag down a bit. This ensures that the gels roll to the lower side, which is the longer angled piece of the feeding triangle.
This is what pushes the gels up.
Do 3 or 4… release the spring to push em up the front…retract the spring load 4 more, and repeat.
Jiggle em around to make sure there are no gaps between the gels.
This seems to help with more reliable feeding…fewer jams.
I will resist the temptation, to make jokes about filling holes, no mare gaps, and jiggling…

Went through mitsubishi Lonsdale back in the day when they operated here for Magnas and forklift motors were the same motor. Cast here in Australia. Was a cool tour.
