J10 ACR thread

You might not be thanking me if you do go down the CYMA path, matey.

Pretty sure that was the other difference, that the J9 box ran Gen8 larger nozzles, whereas the V2 ran the smaller diameter 6mm Airsoft style nozzles … making for some creative thinking to get them to operate with the ACR Gen8 sized t-piece.
Nothing is impossible though, especially a man of your talents! :raised_hands::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

MK Hybrid makes it easy being already fitted with the correct nozzle to work with the standard ACR t-piece.

This was my first thought about the t piece. Might take a bit of voodoo to get the t piece located correctly…

Yeah, the larger J9 t piece and smaller V2 nozzle could work as a positive there.

It’s an interesting project to mull over… tempting too.

Simply try out a Gen8/9 cylinder head/nozzle in the CYMA gearbox?
Maybe do the old o-ring trick if its too short?

Get out of my head, Doc!

I was seriously typing the same thing when you put that post up.

Something else I forgot is that the cylinder head locating pins in the later gearboxes are in a slightly different position than the earlier Gen8/9 stuff, requiring a slight elongating of the early cylinder head holes to line up properly with the newer gearbox.

Most likely the difference between the early Gelblaster specific cylinder heads and the more modern V2 Airsoft type dimensions?

I didn’t know that but it explains why I have an alloy upgrade cylinder head that is mismatched to every V2 gearbox I’ve tried it in. Alignment’s off and needs fettling.

Mystery solved, Doc… must be a J9. I’ll check the spigot diameter tomorrow but it might come in handy on this build if it is a J9. :+1:

That would work out awesome if you already have that type of mismatched early model cylinder head indeed! :raised_hands:

I have a hard time remembering everything, simply because it was MANY builds over MANY years and they were mostly bastardised custom builds making parts fit and work together that they were never originally designed to do!

But yeah, it definitely sounds like that’s the reason why you have that non fitting cylinder head sitting in the spare parts pile, as they definitely won’t locate into any new V2 style Gearboxes properly!

I might be wrong, but at least its something else to check out to see if it will work.

The catch is the cyma tappet plate would need to be modified to suit the “gel” style jin ming nozzle. Not sure there how much tappet would be left after that?
I did like the JM nozzle, it is well suited for gel with the extra diameter.

I am tempted to try this… I have a spare empty J10R receiver, so I get two chances… and they can be had cheap enough to not worry- my favourite part about sub $200 blasters!

@DocBob I understand how easy it is to forget details of builds, I have forgotten loads! I recently have had a couple of blasters come for a service/repair that I built years ago, and it has been good to see how things have lasted, only way to test reliability is to see it again in time.

Cheers mate, and good point regarding the tappet plate designs, as that’s another example of where modifying one single part can lead to having to modify everything else down the whole system to suit. :face_exhaling:

Memory still hazy, but different aftermarket tappet plates were available that fitted straight in, whereas others were different lengths/widths/tail profiles that required fettling.

But as you would know, I just ordered hundreds of random different make/brand/sized parts and threw them all in their specific parts piles to have on hand to trial and error on every single build.

Unfortunately the exact type/brand/size of different parts that was fitted to each build diary was lost when moving properties for the third time in a row. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Gen 9… times 2 :joy:

I bought both of these on seperate occasions to go into V2 builds, so they were either packed wrong at the factory or mixed up and put in the wrong drawer at the retailer. :man_shrugging: Obviously they didn’t fit into the shell.

I haven’t had a J9 box to use them in… I do now though. just have to grab a J9 nozzle and they can go on the ACR. Hopefully improving the airseal will mean I can drop back on the piston spring. Not 100% comfy with running a M100 in a nylon geared ACR.

That Gold one is the better of the two, and the recess around the base of the tube allows the tappet/nozzle to travel further back if required, if not, the Blue type also works but sometimes not depending on tappet travel and the type of gears you are using.:+1:

Nice find. I have a couple spare alloy nozzles if you want one. Also have some metal parts kits I don’t need. :+1:

Have three metal kits I don’t need actually!

You’re like me… shopping spree, 90% of it goes in the spare parts bin.

Yeah you stick with a hobby long enough buying spares cheap when they come up is a lifestyle :joy:

Looks like GBU are stalking this thread, and released a “stage 3 upgrade kit”…

Your blaster was cheaper than the kit, @Friendly_Fire …!!

Up Next…
“Corey Concealment Camo Creeper”…!!

Next they’ll be having a “Clearance Sale” on J9’s and ACR’s for only $299 each complete with a bonus bottle of “Gel Aid” and all its Desaxe goodness!

I absolutely hate the whole “stage” upgrade farce.
Just a bunch of parts to make maximum dollars at once from someone new to modifying blasters.

Kit includes:
An “enhanced” gearbox shell that is I guarantee just a gen9 shell.
A tappet plate you already have…
Gears that don’t fit without modification…
Piston that likely doesn’t fit properly without modification because gen9s are fussy,
A spring retainer that doesn’t sit properly and is like a hotdog down a hallway.
Mental fast motor that doesn’t fit gen9 without modification… and even then is so likely to ruin the build in that gearbox and be the customers fault…

Don’t forget the m90 spring that isn’t stiff enough for the fire rate the motor does… and the m120 that ensures the gearbox casing is warped in the first mag…

Thankfully I am loaded with tenacity… because I fell for a stage 3 bulls*** kit when I first started many years ago. lessons were learnt!
