I was an old 70’s/80’s Celica fan myself.
Classic cars the same as the Mitsi.
This one.
Tbh I never understood why the car body is just a polycarbonate shell. Kinda felt like it should be built like a real car haha
That makes it easier to paint or replace and are very light weight and flexible…to a certain point!
My era cars,…
I’ll be back to discuss this further, must make a trip to town for supplies. Unfortunately not the big smoke town where my RC supplies are at. Yet…
I’m heading off too, gotta help out a mate with his series 2 ex military Land Rover
Good news is that there’s gonna be Bush Chooks involved for sure!
gotta give it the RC treatment.
Chuck a brushless system in it, definitely go a LOT faster than it currently does!
Luckily the ADF were never in a rush to get anywhere on time.
@DocBob ran out of time earlier to discuss further.
I wanted to mention BEC output for your servo. All Esc’s have them included at varying volt and amperage. You probably already know this just sharing my experience.
Be reason for slow turning your bigger tyres and rims. For single servo steering an ESC integrated BEC is fine as long as the BEC voltage is 6v 4-5A you’ll get great performance.
For example with my Clodbuster which has similar tyres I wanted 4WS. The standard Esc integrated BEC 6V 3A was weak and wouldn’t turn both at once.
So oh well bugger it and ran a standalone 6V BEC can’t remember the A might have been 8 or about there. Wired from the battery for power.
Running a standalone BEC also takes the load/heat off the ESC also as a bonus. All a BEC does is reduce battery voltage to 5 or 6V so it doesn’t fry your servo and provide the Amps to power it.
I’d think an ESC with inbuilt BEC, which they all have mostly, at a 6v 4A Bec rating minimum should work good for single steer for your mud bogger tray back Hilux.
Can’t for the life of me find a rating on the Surpass 30A esc besides “built in BEC”
Best I can find is this
This was my first foray in to the RC rally scene. Still have it now although a bit different, just turned it in to a drift car recently
The poly bodies, paint on inside so it doesn’t scrub off when you inevitably roll it and they flex instead of hard ABS plastic goes el snappo.
Yeah I get it, just at the time I felt a bit jipped/gipped.
Cheers for all the information mate
Yes I’ve already found a few stand alone plug in BEC’s, so have them in a few shopping carts until I figure out exactly which vehicles are going to need them.
They all operate fine OOTB, it’s just the ones that I’m modifying will need different components as required as I go.
I have a few different RX/TX/ESC/Motor kits on the way, both brushed and brushless, that all have different BEC outputs and won’t know how they will perform until I try them out…then if needed, can upgrade servo’s and BEC etc as required.
Also will have to wait and see which Axle groups I’ll be running on different vehicles as to how well the steering servo’s perform with heavier Alloy/Steel straight and portal axles.
Got a habit of just amassing a huge pile of different spare parts to enable me to build stuff on the fly, same as I did with the Gelblaster Hobby, but not working anymore and being on a limited budget, I’m taking a more “reserved” approach with this hobby and will only be ordering this extra gear as I need it.
This doesn’t mean that I haven’t already gathered quite a fair bit of aftermarket parts for these things before they arrived, as you’ve seen, but they are all external mechanical parts and accessories, whereas the upgraded electronics/servo’s are yet to arrive and will have to wait to see how they perform and upgrade/purchase any other individual components needed from there.
Just realised last night that I’ll probably get away with using one of the redundant stock TX/RX systems in the little Speedboat, but to be honest, a boat is gonna want to be brushless for max RPM possible!
PS: LOVE that TOYOTA Sillycar!
I think I know what you mean. The DF03 was average at best chassis. You really want to want it for it to be good in your mind.
When I bought the sillycar I shouldn’t have but back then my wallet slipped in the Hobby shop. They are great and look cool but always limited clearance.
The TA02 chassis was one Tamiya got sort of right. I threw some upgrades at it for reliabilty, and the best thing was they handle so well. They are still popular for that today.
But that is all part of the fun, build it, break it, build it better and break it again. Then do it all again until your hearts content.
The later DF03 chassis was not as good chassis, all the suspension, steering geometry as it was a shoehorn of a full off road buggy that was not really that good either.
But Tamiya are more fiddle around builders models that have detail and only mostly for looks. You can’t do Colin McRae eat your heart out in anything Tamiya. You will break it. But me personally I enjoy assembling them on a rainy day, throw a few upgrades in and take for a run now and again. That’s all they are.
You are not alone there
People might think I’m crazy throwing a 120A esc in a Tamiya TA-02. Well it’s going to work and it was on the shelf for some other project I had in mind that didn’t happen.
At least it won’t thermal cut out.
I think I need new drift plastic wheels though, it was funny as. Seen the videos, na I’m not that cool and wiped a few things around the shed out like the shovel and broom etc but who cares I was having fun. And nothing blew up or broke On 3S. It’s all just good fun
I already have 3 expensive hobbies… I don’t need more.
White Van delivery day
This time they’re just dropping off @Maiphut 's mail for him!
Shoot me your details in a message if I haven’t already asked… my brain is seriously cooked after my long hospital stint.
Rest of the bits I can’t use until I get some more parts ordered next pay.
Doing the same as the Hot Rod industry, getting parts that are meant to be for completely different brand and scale vehicles to suit what I want to build with the different models that I have.
The measurements are all I’m interested in, and getting them to fit is just going to require more measuring and more parts from other different vehicles.
Nope that’s not what I ordered haha send it back
Joke yea will do. Soon.
Looks like the stars have aligned and be Landbruising next week
Got the FMS GLACIER, but STILL not what I was expecting.
This is the second attempt to get one of these models now.
I paid NEW price, but received a second hand product.
Still has sand/mud underneath it, parts/missing or broken and writing on the TX and sidewalls of the tyres, along with the crappy stickers and worn out old battery.
First hint something wasn’t right was when it turned up in a smaller bubble wrapped package, not in a large box.
Took pics before I unwrapped for evidence of condition as packed/received.
Have contacted the seller and they answered immediately and are working on a refund or replacement, as is obviously a third party seller of the company who has sent this.
I got no issues buying second hand products, at the appropriate price point and exactly as shown in the advertising pics… but this was the NEW price point and obviously everything was advertised as NEW in the first place.
Probably just get my refund and keep this thing to pull apart and do my Monster Truck conversion anyway.
