Offshoot RC Models/Drone Hobby Thread

You got the land covered, now to get to air and sea.

After wasting too much time/money on Airplanes, I definitely still have an interest in RC Helicopters. :sunglasses:

But after finding those Hydro Hull Racing Boats with the scale outboard motors… I must admit that it’s pretty hard to resist looking further into getting one of those rather than a Helicopter!

Lots of memories and good times with the one I built and Raced in the early 80’s, but other than doing a quick search to see if they still existed, I haven’t dared go back and actually check out what’s out there these days.

Gotta admit that the biggest satisfaction was actually building it from a Balsa Wood flat pack kit that had the pieces printed onto the wood and had to cut out everything by hand and steam bend/shape the hull panels yourself!

Kits also had main beams and bulkheads that had to be cut/drilled/shaped and assembled as the main body of the whole boat first, then applied the outer panels to the frame… time consuming but thoroughly enjoyable.:raised_hands:

I’d imagine that these modern types would come completely assembled in some modern one piece moulded plastic Hull and only require electronics to get them running.?

Dammit… curiousity has got the best of me, so if you don’t hear from me for a couple of days, I’m going to be researching Speedboats! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Once you have conquered air and sea, next you will do amateur rocketry and conquer LEO.

Can’t wait for the DBSA to be established.

Almost impossible finding vintage balsa Hydroplane wood boat kits :disappointed:

Plenty of similar vintage Aircraft Balsa kits still to be found though!

I’d skip that and go straight to drones.

OH MY GOD, I FOUND MY OLD BOAT!

Not my actual own boat, but the EXACT same model that I have been trying to explain!

Complete original unboxed/unassembled flat kits for similar boats are anything from $500 dollars to $1000! :flushed:

This dude is in NSW and only asking $60 including postage for this old wreck…got it in my shopping cart, what was that famous line Darth Vader used again?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I wonder what the chances are of finding an original old 540 Outboard Motor to match, along with the fake driver that attached to the open cockpit.

I seriously need to stop googling shit!

Beware of the slippery finger and that damn buy button :joy:

Where does it end @Maiphut … WHERE! :sob:

OMG!:scream::sob:

Sounds like a worthy purchase and a good project to relive some fun times with that boat though. Restoring and all that.

I’d give boats a go myself, but yeah you kinda need water

Luckily being a Hillbilly, there’s plenty of Lakes, Weirs, Dams and Rivers around here :ok_hand:

If ya want water mate… move to QLD! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Can’t believe these modern outboards actually run water cooled electric brushless motors!

Too large scale/heavy for that old wooden girl though.:disappointed:

Watercooled ESC’s too I’ve seen. Could really amp things up then!

DAMMIT! :sob:

How could I resist the ONLY opportunity to be able to find one of these old girls again?

Especially seeing that there’s only a SINGLE other similar boat in all of my searching and this is what you’re looking to spend on the inboard motor version! :flushed:

Made in South Australia back when we actually had a manufacturing industry.

If I can’t find an original outboard for mine, might just have to keep the inboard setup as it is.

I know how to spend your money

Good on you. :+1: Must be good I was made there too bwahaha

I was just arguing in my head who’s to blame for all this… you or @exakel !

I’ll just blame you instead as you’re more used to it! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Blame the state governments for banning gel blasters.

Found some NOS Kits here in Perth!
WHERE IS THIS ALL GOING TO END! :sob:
About $700 cheaper than that eBay seller too!

Old original advertising from Aeroflyte Company showing the little MERCURY outboard motors that will be my next mission.

Motor steering linkage kit somehow found its way into the cart as well!

Prices are cheap, but the postage is HIGH, so might have to visit Perth again one day and accidentally stumble into this Store to give the Bank Account a break.

I need to see a Doctor…seems like I may have a bad case of ADHD! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

DAMMIT JANET! :face_exhaling:

That’s it… I’m done with Google, it’s sending me to living under a bridge soon!

Now… I wonder what’s the smallest size brushless motors available these days.

I guess I’ll just have to go and search on Goog…FCK!:rage:

Got a couple of these Surpass Hobby kits on the way @Maiphut .
Looking like one kit might end up in a bloody boat now!

Would never have thought that when I first purchased them. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

More compact than the YSIDO Brushless kit I got for the Dual Cab Hilux, as these run a combined RX/30A ESC in a single unit.:ok_hand:

If one of these ends up in a boat, won’t be using the lowest KV Crawler speed motor, I’ll be looking for the highest KV instead!

When I tried RC cars the Mitsubishi Evo X was the car I like visually. That front grill bro.
