PS: forgot to mention this beautiful model in my shopping cart as well.
Not as large or loaded with all the features of the larger Warbirds…,. But gotta admit is an awesome looking replica that has more fine details than the bigger birds on the market.
Looks nice, but almost 4 times the price of a Float Plane… so something about stones and birds, I’ll stick to just spending the funds on the Plane instead !
TYLOSAURUS broke the end off the flex drive whilst a couple of hundred metres away from shore, having to send out the Mad Flow to push it back in because I couldn’t be arsed getting out the Kayak.
So lost the Stainless Prop and Brass Drive Dog to join the Mad Flow flex cable and Prop on the bottom of the Weir as well.
Most likely the issue with the Brass Bush being flogged out in the end of the driveshaft, causing a bad concentrated misalignment point exacerbated by the vibrations it causes also.
Ended up stealing the flex cable/Nylon Prop/drive dog out of the ARROW 5 just to keep it for running down the 4S battery packs, but this probably won’t last long either with the flogged out bushing issues.
Both UDIRC Boats might be off the water for a while until I can modify both of their driveshafts to run bearings instead of Brass bushes… because replacing all the parts getting lost from breakages can start adding up pretty quickly, not to mention the weeks waiting for postage.
On a good note, the dead calm day was awesome for flying.
Back up the Cricket Oval Runway (still fenced off) and able to run the whole time in “Mid” Gyro setting, using the glued together 3 blade prop, and never crashed once!
Loops and rolls, low level slow speed runs to practise my landing skills, dodging flocks of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos and Pink & Grey Galahs…came back home with the same Prop I left with!
Some more Pesos on another couple of driveshafts/drive dogs and props.
Also got a 4mm shaft on the way, so hopefully will stand up to not only the current 4S thrashing, but also the planned 150A ESC and 6S adaptor cable I made last night.
Hahaha, cheers mate… but at that price I could buy a whole container full of Submersible Drones that would last me a lifetime, and wouldn’t have to get into that freezing cold water!
Went out flying the Corsair yesterday, only because I was on my way into town and happened to have it in the back of the Patrol.
3rd time flying, got cocky and was trying to fly in full unstabilised mode in the gusty winds again…broke the two glued Props again, as well as on of the landing gear off the wing.
Gotta get me some Foam Glue to keep in the toolbox, maybe a 44 gallon drum might be a good idea.
A mate of mine spent hours and hours hand building an RC glider… took it down to his local beach, launched it, wind took it straight off the beach, over the road and it crashed dived into someone’s backyard.
No amount of door knocking produced that little puppy again.
I know that feeling very well mate!
Many of our projects that took a LOT of time and money to build were completely destroyed in seconds on their maiden flights due to some overlooked simple little things.
That’s the problem with Aircraft, there’s no second chances and only one attempt at getting it 100% right from the very first time it leaves the ground!
Luckily this new stuff comes with a “find my plane” locating function, that beeps to guide you to the exact location that it disappeared into.
My old man has been building planes and drones for nearly 20 years, his garage is full of them. Got some great stories of spending months building scale replicas, then one overlooked factor leading to destruction on the maiden flight.
He said there is nothing like spending months on a nitro plane, only to on it’s maiden flight witness the remote plane version of Hindenburg!
Hi favourite for a while was small planes made from core flute, cheap enough and light, but still rigid to make a budget stunt plane and risk it for some impressive flying.
I can feel his pain!
It’s definitely the norm in the Aircraft hobby for sure, and no amount of new fangled elektrickery can ever overcome gravity!
I’m going back to the hobby with the same outlook…hone the long forgotten skills on cheap Foamies first, then progress onto some slightly larger and more expensive models as time goes on.
At least the hobby has a lot more cheaper RTF options available these days that cut down the costs GREATLY compared with the old large Balsa Wood kits.
Just ordered this 560mm Mustang for less than $100 delivered as the next step up from the little $80 400mm Corsair Foamie that I’m currently crashing.
A great article that covers the history of my favourite TV show growing up with the Black Sheep Squadron in the 1970’s that got me hooked on the Vought F4U Corsairs.
Apologies about the shitonne of Ads in this article, but is the only one that I have found with the very best information available about these Aircraft and the TV Series itself.
I still have one of these in my Shopping Cart, just waiting until I finish paying off a couple of prior purchases first.
All of that…or you can just be a rural Westralian hillbilly with endless open skies and feckall restrictions/costs that highly inhibit the Hobby if living in highly populated areas.
I fully understand why the Gumbyment wants to enforce such airspace and public liability protections… but it’s still bullshit honestly, that moving money from your bank account into theirs suddenly makes everything “safe” in their eyes.
It’s a bloody good adrenaline filled fun hobby, and the VERY most expensive Aircraft that I have purchased so far is the 1220mm FMS Ranger Trainer Cessna with Floats at $340 as a fully complete RTF model that has EVERYTHING included in the kit.
Everything else that I have regarding aircraft and Radio systems are sub $100, which is pretty good compared with the Gelblaster or RC Boat Hobby… but even all the RC Speedboats that I have were all under $200 including the batteries and RX gear RTR as well!
Here’s some screenshots of my previous purchases, but take note of the prices listed in the small red box, and also understand that these are current prices that I definitely got much cheaper over different Sales offered over the last 12 months that took another $30-$50 off of these current advertised prices… which basically means that NO… I got these models that $30-$50 cheaper than these screenshots and prices listed in the “Red Boxes”.
I mean, seriously…$95 delivered for a fully complete 560mm wingspan RTF P51 Mustang with great online reviews delivered to your door with everything supplied to simply charge the battery and get out dodging Cockatoos is pretty good value whichever way you look at it…,…try getting all that with a Gelblaster straight out of the box!
I started off with a $60 800mm trainer high wing that comes with servos pre installed, then a transmitter that comes with RX for $140 then a battery is around $20.
You can start off for a few hundred dollars. You don’t need the $1000+ remotes. I’m not sure what would be the go these days as mine is over a decade old Turnigy TX9 and works fantastic still. I even use it on my Clod for the extra channels for 4WS
I’d think that mustang would be hard to learn on. Let us know, maybe it is a good start, but I’d think a beginner would turn it in to bits of foam pretty quick.
