Tractor tyres to match all the other machinery in the shed for the SA outback!
Got any Brush cutter engines sitting around looking for a new home?:joy:

About to head up to the local Cricket Oval “Runway” to see how much I’ve forgotten how to fly an Aircraft over the last 30 years!

Wish me luck! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Can’t do too much damage with only a single battery and around 8-10 minutes run time… surely?

It’s a bit like cheating these days though, with all this new fangled Gyroscope electronics and push button loops and rolls.

Certainly didn’t have that sort of assistance in the old model Aircraft we used to fly (crash).

At least EPP Foam flexes much better than Balsa Wood!

Great planes those Corsairs. :+1:

Big favourite of the US Navy in the Pacific theatre back in double yuh double yuh two.

Oh for sure. :ok_hand:
They have always been my favourite after growing up watching the Black Sheep Squadron on TV as a kid.

I have always been a huge fan of all the different types of Aircraft all the way from WW1 and through WW2 up to the Phantoms in the Vietnam era.

Grew up reading Biggles books and MANY War Cartoon series comics, as well as a massive Library of Military Aircraft technical books that the parents used to buy me for Birthdays and Xmas.

Next favourite is the P40 Warhawk, but the MOST favourite aircraft of all time that I absolutely admire is the Hawker TYPHOON and TEMPEST… absolute beasts and I wish someone would make an RC version, as would have one (or several) in a heartbeat!

Already have a 1.1m Wingspan version of the F4 Corsair and a 750mm P51 Mustang in my shopping cart for the future, but that will have to wait until I regain my skills up to standard again and slowly increase the Aircraft sizes to suit.:+1:

Never really been a fan of the Mustang, but all the other models of Aircraft that I like are renowned for having pretty shitty flying performance in the RC Scale versions. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

F4G Wild Weasel’s my second favourite jet, behind F/A18s for obvious reasons.

Had plenty of Phantom models growing up of all different scale sizes and were my favourite of the Jet era up until that point, beautiful looking aircraft and hard to comprehend how old they actually are!

You’ll be right it’s got a Gyro, that’s cheating

Hope you got spare props and glue to glue back on the parts that rapidly disembark :joy:

We had echos for a few years. Good plane. On lease iirc

“Runway” was fenced off, so hand launches only. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Quite messy winds as the Cricket Oval is quite high above the back of town and on the rising slope up into the escarpment.

Still had a crack anyways!
Crashed about 6 times due to my low throttle inputs and my reactions being WAY too slow on the sticks in relation to the wind conditions.

TX/RX has pretty poor response proportional controls and trimming, but the whole lot was under $100, so not exactly expecting Hobby Grade electronics!

Much of the excessive trim on the elevator is caused by this misaligned motor mount I reckon, which was a concern as soon as I unpacked it out of the box. :face_exhaling:

Motor shaft points to the ground so much that the blades were binding on the bottom section of the cowling as I tried rotating them.

Reefed it around a bit until the blades cleared the cowling, but obviously gonna induce some pretty bad trimming and flight characteristics where it was wanting to nosedive the whole time at “level” flight trim.

Two crashes and broken Props occured on “takeoffs”, where the gyro system wigged out and sent it full throttle into the grass as soon as it was launched. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Lasted a good 10 minutes though as I was putting around at half throttle most of the time, and “landed” it as soon as the low voltage alarm started beeping, but get home and battery checker might be lying to me.

Certainly need a lot more practice on the controller, but thank god for the gyro system in the windy conditions, even if it does limit the throws on the sticks when trying to fly it.

At least I took the spare Props with me @Maiphut … because I had just as much confidence as you did, and already found the CA glue before I even left home! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Alarm was probly just the voltage dipping when in use.

I can’t remember exactly as been awhile but I remember the alignment of the motor is kicked off to one side to counter the torque or whatever you call it and can’t remember if down or up. Likely some guide on this somewhere on the net.

Yea foamies don’t like any wind at all.

Yeah ya right about torque offsets, but this was pointing at the ground so bad that the back of the blades were actually stopping them from being able to rotate.

The pic above is after I reefed it around in the foam to at least get the blades to clear the Cowling, but the Plane wanted to nosedive the whole time it was flying and full trim on the elevator was barely enough to level it out.

Trimmed it all on the bench before heading out, but now I know how it wants to fly, will recenter the servo trim and give it some mechanical trim built into the elevator on the servo rod adjustment. :+1:

That’s why I was dubious of going up there in the first place, but you know what it’s like when you get a new Toy.

Two crashes were from heading into the wind at a lower altitude on a downward trajectory, and both times caught strong wind gusts that just drove it straight into the ground! :joy:

Bloody good fun though, and if you ain’t crashing, you ain’t learning!

Might have to hit up @BME for some inside knowledge! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

You can do that or tilt the motor upwards :+1:

Fly it like you stole it…!!

With a govt budget insurance policy…!!

New pull start, new shocks. Ready to rip tomorrow :sunglasses:

That looks like a BEAST! :ok_hand:
Certainly wouldn’t have any trouble chasing Rabbits with that beauty!

Love the Shock Socks, definitely need them out your neck of the woods.:ok_hand:

Executive decision has been made!

Had two BEAUTIFUL Warbirds in my shopping cart at VERY insanely cheap prices… but have to relearn how to fly again first and foremost.

I will still purchase these three beautiful Warbirds in the future, but only after a bit more time on the sticks first.

Dumped all the dollars from purchasing these much wanted show ponies into something more practical.

FMS Ranger 1220mm Trainer, but have also ordered the Floats due to being wanting to use out on the Weir whilst running the Boats and Rock Crawlers. :ok_hand:

Nice one. I forgot you can get ones with floats, be ideal for your spot.

You’d be able to recover some of your boats with it :joy: Air rescue. :+1:

That’s exactly what I was thinking mate!

Instead of getting my arse wet dragging out the Kayak, just send out the float plane instead!

It makes perfect sense to get a larger High Wing Aircraft to relearn my long forgotten skills rather than a low wing floaty foamy to battle with. :face_exhaling:

Back in the Balsa Wood days, everything I flew was high wing Cessna type 900-1.2m wingspan house bricks… much more realistic and better handling than 400-650mm low wing Warbird Foamies.

I still absolutely love the models I pictured above, but the FMS RANGER Float Plane simply ticks so many boxes, I would have to be stupid in the head to go any other way right now… and have NEVER even considered a Float Plane until now!

Took the 400mm Corsair out to the Weir today, alongside the boats and Crawlers, but never got the chance to run even half the battery packs for the Boats, let alone the rest of them, because I simply ran out of time to get back home for a prior engagement. :disappointed_relieved:

I’ve just recharged EVERYTHING in preparation for hopefully another good day out tomorrow.
The weather looks like shit, raining all this morning and overcast all day, but absolutely ZERO wind with calm skies and waters. :ok_hand:

Really nice for the RC Crawlers as well having wet beach sand instead of dry boggy dust bowls!
