Quick mock up…

Its already darker, than the final finish i want…

I suppose a light coloured primer , will help cover it…

Any particular types of paint / colours that anyone can reccommend …??

Lighter seems the way to go…

This is a 3d kit…guy did a good job…

ALSO…

Gen1 Burton bits arrived ( and another set of gen 2 bits)…

I have my elec gen 2 burton…time to make a gen 1 burton as well…

Quick mock up, and comparo with gen 2
Gen1 hasn’t been drilled out yet / barrel needs polishing…

Gen 1 is a much sleeker look, than gen 2…

Dare i brave FB marketplace, and try to get some good coin, for my unique , one of a kind , gen2 burton.?.?

Tamiya silver or gunmetal would completely cover that dark plastic without a primer.

I’ve gone straight onto black plastic and metal… onto black with light primer too… couldn’t see any difference in the end result, same colour.

I reckon it’d look schmick in gunmetal… slight blueish tinge to it. :person_shrugging:

That’s what I love about Tamiya lacquers.:+1:

Looks good.

A bit of trial and error, me thinks…

Thankfully, tamiya is cheap, so I can try a few different shades…

I taped it off to get the 2 tone going on I was after, modified the stickers to cover the join. About 6 coats I did to get depth, then applied stickers then I put 8 coats of clear TS-13 all over the stickers and everything for protection being a dirt bashing buggy it gets a bump and scrape here and there. It’s holding up well. Did that 10 years ago. :+1:

@BME What about TS-42 a light gun metal

Tamiya TS Spray Paint (100mL) (All Colours Available) | eBay Australia

I’ll go for a close a match, as the base pistol as possible…

Might have to go to mr toys, whip it out, and check all the colours…!!

Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Aluminum will do the job since the gun should be sliver in the movie

Depending on how deep the layer lines re give it a light sanding first, I usually use like 240 or 120 depending on how much needs to come off, then a coat of filler primer and another light sand just to get any last crevasses.
I you’re using paint like Rust-Oleum, that bonds to PLA just fine so doesn’t actually need a primer.

Looking at the image the slide and laser body look pretty decent so shouldn’t need that much, going perpendicular to the layers will take more off then just ease off the pressure to get a smoother finish.

That mount looks bad though on the top part, can see where the printer got some made wobbles or extrusion problems, can tell that was the bottom side too with excess brim, that can just be cut off with a blade.

I would use ABS or PETG instead of PLA. PLA and that scope is likely to look like a banana if you accidentally leave it in the sun on a warm day.

i didnt print it…

just got it, as a kit from ebay…

no choice in the materials, unless i contact the maker, and ask for a special run.

this is a cheapy.
I’ll treat it as a test run, and see how i go…

Ok…

did a bit of sanding on the mount, and used the last of my avail TS-17…

It came up ok, but was a bit " light and shiny" looking.

I let it dry for awhile, and put on a light coat of ‘Tamiya Smoke’ …

Thats looking better…

A bit darker, aged look and not so shiny and new…

Those lines are still there though… what can you do, to get the laser looking better.?

The lines could do with a bit more sanding but there’s not much you can do about those chunky bits on the top, you could in use some modelers putty and fill them in and sand back but the marks might not be deep enough for that.

Dilemmas. 50 shades of silver here we come. :+1:

I’d be rubbing that back, the colour looks about right depends on the owner. Hit it with this stuff Tamiya 87044 Surface Primer 180ml Fine White Spray – Aussie Hobbies to fill the fine gaps, fine rub it again, apply colour 4-5 times or more until it looks right then lock it in with half a dozen coats of TS-13 clear for a bit of handling robustness. That’s what I’d do and call it a day. Up to you matey.

Probably won’t be able to get those in anymore if they’re “ordered in”…

Ok… Arnie Update…

I sanded the mount plate, to get rid of the lines.

Pretty aggressive…marks on upper already, it’ll never be pristine, so practise time…

120 … 400 wet/dry , then 600, then 1200.

It came up pretty good.
Same technique on the body of the fake laser .

That came up mostly smooth, with a few deep scratches.

Painted up with TS-17 Silver, and a light coat of smoke.
