i’ll try the black grips on B.B.C. , and throw up some piccies later…
Gen1 burton and BBC.
BBC in faux wood…
The real wood grips do spoil you, you can spot the fake wood a bit easier…
Still looks way better, than standard DB grips though.
Both dressed up in black…
I wish i could get rid of the Taurus, on the side…
The black is growing on me…
Red emblem is just glossy glare, under the lighting…
I wonder…
@Friendly_Fire , how can the white stenciling be easily removed.?
Ifit can be done well, the NWell C02 is a good kicker…hefty, solid in the hand, nice recoil and good fps ( initially).
I wonder if a nice, shiny silver outer barrel, lurks under that black paint…??
If so , a prime candidate for using the wood grips off the BBC, and leaving BBC all black…
OR…
Use it as a base for the robocop kit, and have a CO2 Robo ( albeit M92 instead of M93)…
Gaahhhh…decisions, decisions…!!
The only thing I can think of @BME is wiping Acetone, but would recommend doing a small test patch first to make sure it won’t damage the black coating underneath.
White Spirits is another product we used in the Hot Rod industry for cleaning delicate surfaces, but still had the strength to remove slight overspray marks, dissolved the glue in stickers and vinyl wraps etc, otherwise known as Drycleaning Fluid.
White vinegar is another that can be tried by leaving a few soaked cotton balls laying on top of the writing and left to soak overnight.
Again, would have to do a small test patch with any of these products before rushing into anything
Have to be even if it’s smelted down frying pans don’t turn out black. Knock a bit off underneath where it can’t be seen. To see what it’s like.
Quick update, on improving the DB Taurus ( removing the white taurus logo).
You can get a pretty good result, with rattlecan matte black rustoleum, with minimal prep time.
Remove the slide and barrel, down to the naked slide components.
Cover the rest of the slide with masking tape, leaving only the section with the white lettering exposed.
Apply several thin coats, of matte black, allowing drying time in between…
After drying time, it actually looks quite good.
The matte black is quite close colour match wise, the slide has a lot of " busy moving angles", and its a smaller section, so it blends in quite well…
You can still see the indentation of the lettering, but its not in your face.
Good comparo of the upper slide, and the lower frame ( not touched)
Its a pretty good result, for such minimal intervention…!!
I wet n dry rubbed the logo side of the top slide on my Taurus back to bare metal plus a bit more before I sprayed mine.
Chalk it up to my well known OCD but that Taurus etch goes more than a little way into the wokuminium cast metal and was still visible even with all the paint off. No way I couldn’t rub it back until it was completely gone… but that’s me
What can I say…
Laziness beat OCD, that day…
God invented grinders for a reason
What you do in your spare time, with whom, and on what website, is up to you!!!
A welder mates favourite saying about his co-workers:
Good at welding… great at grinding!
The sign of a great welder…
Grinder used for prepping not finishing.
I use grinders for cutting, gouging cracks and shaping steel. The only time they help me with welding is bevelling the edge prior to filling it with red hot good stuff. Up, down, upside down and inside out. Some of the places I’ve had to get in to to repair a crack, far out need to be a contortionist and your work mate to pull you back out coz you can’t move
Good times.
Funniest one was welding a 600ton press crack on the conrod. I got in alright and had it in front of me but realised I couldn’t weld it as I couldn’t move my arms Had to get pulled back out and go in head first suspended by my ankles by two other fitters and do it upside down. That worked
Laughing some of the things you do for work.
Whatever you gotta do to get the machine running, complain all you like. Boss would say I don’t fkn care just fkn fix it fkn yesterday.
I actually use an angle grinder a surprising amount with gel blasters! My recent wells Marine had the upper receiver grinded out to fit a SLONG gearbox, as the front is just so much wider than a normal v2 gearbox.
Also to some peoples great surprise, I use my angle grinder to short stroke sector gears. With the gear positioned nicely in the vice I will grind the vice before I grind too much from the sector gear, and can just get a better, straighter and cleaner job done than using a dremel. Also so much faster!
thats a schmick shotty - what is it? APS?
That’s it. Why I joke about it as some see it as butchery but in the right circumstances they do a better job than other ways.
I replaced a section of wood floor boarding and where it met up with the old was not level and could trip on it, only a couple mm difference. hmmm, I know angle grinder with flap disc and smooth it off done in minutes. Perfect
Gearbox was a SLONG, receiver are likely a Wells, its the Marine engraved receiver Ausgel were selling recently… but I picked it up for far less… because it was far from perfect. Pin holes didn’t line up, magazine latch didn’t fit… needed a lot of grinding and filing. Prick of a thing!
@Maiphut I have used a stone disc to do the same on concrete that was sitting proud and a trip hazard! Just made sure the dust mast was on and the concrete was soaking wet!
Versatile tool!
Yea and that too, similar used a 9" with concrete disc to cut out broken concrete floor to get a neat edge to re do it. Not sure what’s in those discs but the standard metal discs disappear in no time on concrete.
Love the flap discs Flap Discs - Power Tools Accessories | Total Tools
Great for cleaning up rusty metal or stripping paint off or sanding wood down really fast
Yeah, it’s an APS.
I knew they had piece of crap shells…
But they are very nice collectable models.
I never worried about all the shell gas filling paraphernalia…I just got it for the collectibility…
Maybe someday, someone will figure out a decent shell system…
