Working on a new grenade design that uses the distraction grenade shells from above to maybe shoot gels, when will i know if this works how i like? some time in the new year when i get some more filament to do a true print and test as this is just a check for any major error’s in the print.
Plus i still need a actual propellent core for it and havent decided what to use for that yet.
There’s a .50cal nerf grenade that uses the gas shotgun shell as a propellant, I had made some inserts to replace the nerf balls with gel and it kinda works but relies on landing on its base to trigger the shell, and the capacity of the shells aren’t a lot so they don’t get shoot very far or hard.
Yea the triggering is what im having issues with cause theres the cheapo impacts or i can get some thunderb ones and slip the thing into the printed shell and hope i can get the base to burst but then im facing strength issues and untill i can get a enclosed printer im stuck to pla+.
You know, this guy makes a version that can be launched from TAGINN barrels, and there’s a TAGINN adapter for 40max shells you can get just on Thingiverse. You don’t need to buy the model from there because there’s a few open source designs for this type of grenade available online, if you just want the fuze. I actually regularly run Meteorites, they’re very nice items. I have also tried the version I’m talking about - the “Comet” - and I find that it doesn’t trigger very reliably.
I should remind you that the specific reason gel blasters are exempt from being considered illegal firearms is that they fire soft projectiles. So should probably print such things in soft TPU. That could be why mine didn’t work very well.
Im honestly wanting to get the whole thing fuse and body and yea for grenades tpu is hell and wont work at all hence he recomends pla+ for the strength and knowing it will go off reliably.
Also lets not turn this thread into politics on why they are allowed please, made this just for my goofy 3d prints that i do
I see. I thought you were trying to launch one of those distraction grenades from a 40 max shell.
I will say if you are just building those, consider making the cap cartridge out of TPU. The prongs are prone to breaking and TPU will make it more durable.
Nah trying to launch gell balls out of a distraction grenade model i modified and needing to figure out a good fuse system for that without exploding plastic everywhere.
I’d make the main body put or PLA or PETG and then model some end corner caps or a sleeve and print that out of low infill TPU as a buffer/cushion. Should still land with enough force to trigger but not enough to break it after one throw.
I’m very late to the party. But this info might help other people. He would’ve been printing in tpu. It’s a rubber filament. Sanding or chemical smoothing won’t really work. But a heat gun at a lower temp (I use 80-120c) gets rid of strands and providing you’re careful will smooth it out.
One of the best things I’ve made so far is my own hopup. I love the dk hops. But for someone who’s broke most of the time they are expensive. Annoying to get ahold of and if you leave it at a certain tension it stays after a while which sucks if you have to switch your brand of gels (cough black label cough). So made one that has a replaceable inner lip. At max range the gels drop shy about 3-5 meters from my dk hops and not quite as good groupings. But I’m very happy with them.
Also when I got my Orion nylon slide gbb pistol. Firstly. One of the best gbb pistols I’ve ever owned. But it shredded gels if the gel was anything above a 7.0 gel. After some tinkering I remade a little rubber seat that’s there to hold the gel until you fire. It took a couple iterations but the new one I printed in you. Lost no fps (around 250-260. I’m fine with this fps as it’s a cqb item) and now I can use gels up to 7.3 without the gels breaking and the auto function doesn’t work like a flamethrower
(I also made a couple of these for some gbb m4 for a couple people and they now use glow gels.)
I’ve also got a range of “suppressors”. A custom made front end for my p90 to allow for the longer barrel. My slr m4 now has a dinosaur muzzle (because why not?). Remade a gbb m4 mag (so it would feed gels as the owner had it get flung far and wide during a field game). Remade adjustment screws for pistol grips (that one I’m genuinely amazed it works so well).
I’m also working on a drum mag for my ldt mp7. Working on a bolt gun design for an old cyma m4 I have and a bunch of other little things. 3d printers are so damn useful.
Nice work on the hopup! I designed and printed my own and it took quite a lot of prints and redesigns until it worked well enough to be happy with. Beauty is you can adapt it to anything once the basic tongue design works. 14mm ccw mount flash hider look, inner barrel mount, 19mm push on, even ones for my old wells g36 and BF MP7.
