The plan is, to keep Mum at home, as long as possible.
I’ll go on a reduced line roster, when she gets feebler, to help her stay at home longer.

Physically, she takes after grandad. He lived to 94, was quite active for his age, but went downhill rapidly in the last 3-4 months. I suspect mum will be the same. So, hopefully , if she has to go to a nursing home it will only be a short stay.

Talk about financial inequity.
When Grandma passed, over 17 years ago, the means test cut mum from the pension. She has received nothing from the govt, by way of pension payments / costing the taxpayer nothing. 17 years, at today’s pension rate is around $500 000 of taxpayer money SAVED, in todays dollar value.

Assuming she lives for a while yet, the ongoing Savings, plus her cost of a nursing home, sees the govt ahead by about $700 000 easily. ( the govt makes contributions to a nursing home, as well as taking 85% of the pension, when a pensioner goes in.) So, zero cost to the Govt, all cost borne by mum ( and me, i’ll have to chip in as well).

Versus person B, on the pension for decades, goes in at zero cost to that person, all cost borne by the govt/ taxpayers.

The savings made by every person A, pays the way for a person B.

So, in spite of working and paying taxes all your life, at the end , when you need some help, you get next to nothing. Meanwhile lifelong dolebludger just keeps on cruising…

Of course, im not against genuine people needing genuine assistance, but its a bitter pill to swallow, when all you do is pay, pay, pay…and receive nothing. And have you tax breaks cut in half.

That’s a big no no. I’ve been in the Medical profession. I know what goes and does not.

Some of the docs and nurses are rushed slap dash through training and wouldn’t know shit from clay.

Best reported to your local Ombudsman to get change.

I have a private doc that is Australian and is full qualified and experienced in all. He does not fk around, minimal and knows exactly what is required to fix. When I’ve needed help which is not often thankfully.

They are understaffed and working 14hr days with 4 current interns under his training. They recently stopped supporting another local hospital with docs on shifts. Why you ask, Management were complete cunts at that one so they pulled all workers and will never go there in the future. That is the truth because they wouldn’t listen to their expert advice of the drugs etc which sometimes you just don’t need them. Situation dependent.

Frustrating but that is the reality of things :frowning_face:

They don’t have solar on their new house, after getting shafted over thousands of dollars worth of solar on their last house, that they are still paying off that system even though they don’t own the house anymore :roll_eyes:

Power bill has outstripped the fuel costs/tax savings of his old work boonga, a little Hyundai sedan, and my sister isn’t too happy about this fact along with the vehicle repayments out of the paypacket and all the other compulsory servicing/computer updates etc that goes along with it when he had a cheap work vehicle already :confused:

She was even less happy with the extra thousands of dollars that had to be spent upgrading the power supply to their home to be able to install a decent recharging system for the vehicle

She was even more pissed off when I told her that the vehicle SHOULD NOT be parked in the attached UMR Garage and left to charge overnight, and that she had to contact their Insurance Company to let them know that they have an EV parked in their garage.

Naturally the Insurance Company went ballistic on their insurance premiums and set out a very long and detailed disclaimer list against any payouts on everything that they own on that whole property :astonished:

This includes house and contents, their other vehicles, trailers, campers, boat and motorbikes insurance all rising in conjunction with the heightened risk, as well as possible counter claims from neighbours in the event that the TESLA Firecracker decides to take out a few more houses around it if anything were to go wrong.

Amazing how one simple vehicle can cause so many costs and liabilities, but NONE of these matters are ever mentioned when people are looking to buy an EV to “save on fuel” or to “protect the environment” :astonished:

The worst part is that he has to drive a 200klm round trip each day, through all sorts of heat/cold/stormy weather every week of the year, through winding country backroads full of Kangaroo’s and fallen trees etc in an EV that takes only the slightest knock to have it written off and sent to landfill :confused:

So yeah… sister is NOT very impressed with his decision and is costing them a fortune and a lot of stress, not to mention that in the end, they will have to make a Balloon Payment and actually own this thing… which by then the value of this vehicle will be less than 1/4 of what they have paid for it…let alone the tens of thousands of dollars extra it has cost them just to have it sitting in the driveway :unamused:

I know that EV’s have their specific place in different situations, but it’s the real life extra costs and stress that nobody ever talks about.
