Just dropping the hay around here at the moment, and with this heat and high winds just starting to kick in, gonna be baled ASAP!
Been another bumper season, from what I seen out in the wheatbelt in my absence a few weeks back, with the Canola, Wheat, Barley, Rye and Lucerne already on the turn
Maybe if it wasn’t for the WA bans, I’d recommend selling up the SA Sandpit and moving to the glorious WA Wheatbelt
Yea I know, it’s because WA has had waaaay more rain than where I am, but I can’t move because of commitments and in the bigger picture, happy where I am because of several reasons. Put my everything in to this place to bring it up levels of productivity. It would cost me a mint to move interstate that I’d likely never recover before I’m dead with all the shit I have.
I have already made my adjustments and mind up for the future, going to stick with it.
Good to hear the hay is going well. We’ll likely be buying lots of it as all hay(bumfluff) got bailed up locally 2 weeks ago before it got smashed again by these high winds and frosts.
The rest of the unbailable or for farmers that need fodder it’s still ankle high and frosted to fk and green.
Oh well is what it is. Talking to the bank fella the other week and the big farmers in the past could put their excess income in to bonds. Alot of those bonds are being claimed on this year but the bank is struggling to get the money to payout. Glad I’m not that big. Bigger you are, the harder you fall.
Realize doesn’t make sence to a lot of people here. Any questions just ask. I sold mutton for $4/kg recently so that’s a great price for me, then transport, levy, agent, mla fees get taken out of that. Went straight to a Melbourne meatworks. Enjoy Squidguts You are most welcome.
It’s certainly a bloody hard slog being a farmer these days
All of my family were farmers, but only a couple of Aunty/Uncles left on the land now, especially after all of their kids ran away to the big smoke as soon as they were old enough.
Aunt/Uncle sold their massive sheep/cropping/piggery farm in Coorow and now running a very successful Wildflower venture nearer to the coast around Geraldton.
Other Aunt/Uncle sold the sheep/cropping farm in Quairading and started up a massive cattle finishing feed lot outside of Esperance and are also doing well
Ever heard of the McMahons as they are sole suppliers of pigs to Coles. Trucks daily. They are very close and not interstate but transport interstate. To all Coles supermarkets. Supply in the millions.
Good news is sheep are picking back up as farmers look for something to do with their failed grain crops. So might be good and I’ll see what happens in next week or two with my wether lambs
The other one that rang me up the other day is my bulk fuel supplier. I haven’t got paid yet so can’t order fuel. Pretty simple.
Had a bit of a chat how the fuel business is going… worst ever for 3 months then just kicked back in to gear last 2 weeks because the bigger farmers hay cutting and worried about shortage and ration like happened in 1991 when none was available at all because of gulf war.
Traditionally, the last few weeks, pre election are about,
Solidifying policy, selling your strengths, and promoting your party…
trump however, stoops to calling her a ‘shit vice president’, and talking about Arnold Palmers penis size…
This is going to be one of the most embarrasing periods of modern history, for a long time…
trump has no coherent policy , and realises all he needs to do is get enough ignorant yanks to agree with whatever he happens to say, on any particular day, and they will vote for him…
What an utter embarresment, for a world superpower leader…
