I see what @Friendly_Fire means though with social media. Stripped shops bare, then say they are heroic for surviving what a Cat 2 at best storm. You only start to get worried when it gets up around Cat 4 or 5. Then the wind blows and knocks things for a six.

Unending sheets of horizontal rain, the force of the wind would support your weight , windows being rattled out of their sills, howling winds, groaning buildings and roofs blown off, trees blasted apart everywhere…like a bomb had gone off…
Last night, was just good sleep in weather, up here around north lakes.

We’ve had much worse and more destructive thunderstorm cells moving through this pastbstorm season.
But, as I said, I ain’t complaining that Alfie fizzled out so quickly… Cat 2 when it hit Moreton Island, Cat 1 when it hit the coast, then the eye pretty much collapsed and it became Ex Cyclone Alfred, a tropical low.
Which can be problematic in itself with the volume of water that gets dumped into the river systems.
That’s what I thought there’s been a few rippers lately. I guess authorities just trying to make people prepared as best they can.
I had wind gusts 140klm/hr recently that didn’t make the news. No big deal just blew a heap of dirt around, couldn’t see the driveway and had to have an extra shower to get half my paddock out of my eyes and everywhere else.
