Dragons Lair is pure evil, you need a photographic memory to beat it…
Ive spent a few hours on it,… so many scenes, so many time perfect moves…
Its torture…like all the good games from the 80’s…
I have described the day spent “beating” (1/2) of … Ghosts n Goblins…
That is something you just need to experience yourself…
Its one of the hardest games of all time , for a reason…!!
If I might instead recommend, as the cheaper-than-a-whole-ass-arcade-machine option:
The Raspberry Pi.
Tiny little computer, that can be programmed to do all kinds of things. Including stuff for the very technically inclined (if you did a crazy costume that had an inbuilt light rig, you’d use one of these to time and run all the electronics).
For those more like you and I, there’s easy guides to turn them into teensy tiny game consoles, able to run stupidly powerful stuff for such a tiny rig. The top tier one can run N64 and PS1 games, even. All can be broadcast to your TV and played with a USB game controller.
i know rasberry Pi is cheaper, but…
I wanted a 80’s themed arcade machine…childhood memories, and all that stuff.
Plus, it is just so cool…
Everyone, when they visit, stops, goes “wow”…and wants to have a crack…
i eventually wanna get a digital jukebox…decade themed…
Press 1) for the 80’s
press 2) for the 90’s
press3), for the noughties etc…
press 4), to give squiddy a boot up the butt…!!
1942 and Double Dragon were my go to at the Pizza shop next to parents shop. Pretty handy having an endless supply of 20c pieces after the afernoon newspaper was sold
Have a bit of a fiddle around with them on MAME recently for fun, hell of a laugh.
Unfortunately I don’t
Doesn’t matter anyway for a bloke who hasn’t even had a television for many years, let alone a computer or anything where I have any interest in spending any time sitting down or being indoors!
Rarely ever played these early games growing up, would only spend a bit of pocket money on them when travelling the country with the parents and looking for something to do in the evenings after the sun went down and before the little tourist shops shut for the night whilst out in the middle of buttfuck nowhere!
I have seen these modern reproduction game tables loaded with all of the old school games when I was working in the Waroona Hotel for a couple of years.
I would always give my Son and Daughter a few dollars to have a bit of fun playing these great old school games after every Sunday Roast lunch afternoon out together.
I never joined in, but enjoyed watching them getting excited about playing together with such cool old games
Yeah I’m a weird old bastard…… only spend any of my spare time either engaging here or on a couple of reddit/discord groups…. which I had never done in my life until the old GBF was shut down.
Funny thing is that I still don’t even sit indoors whilst engaging in these online activities……. I always drive out to a place where I know that I can get enough phone signal to be able to engage with these sites.
Every time that I’m online…… I’m out in the bush somewhere, not inside a house!
Couldn’t even tell you how many years it’s been since I even sat down on a lounge!
I’m currently in my car in the middle of the car park at the local weir…… it’s wet and dark…… but I’ll try take a pic and post up
Ivan Milat must still have some relatives out there?
Strangest thing about not having television, radio, limited social media and exposure to whatever is going on in the world…… I find it difficult to converse with friends and family who bring up latest gossip/news stories/discussions about things that I have absolutely no idea about.
I still hold onto my own beliefs that I only have to think about myself and my own family, completely focused on ourselves rather than whatever other meaningless crap is going around in the rest of the world/country that shouldn’t effect our own private lives.
