Wow, had completely forgotten about her until your comments!

Being 50 myself, I grew up with her career and achievements through her heyday, yet the memories obviously have faded over time :frowning:

Heterosexual is not in these days

I’m seriously almost at the end of my facepalm tether right now, after many months of watching hundreds of YouTube videos of Americans discovering Gelblasters.

Sure thing that all of us Australians and countless others across the whole world were complete beginners when Gelblasters were first introduced into the market and we all had to learn everything from scratch from that first experience up until this very day.

But by Christ, the most painful thing that I have ever experienced is watching these specifically US people/reviewers/content creators/experts/YouTube wannabes flexing their “knowledge” and “expertise” on what Gelblasters are and how they “work” is absolutely killing my brain cells!

None of us ever admitted to being experts or having the absolute divine knowledge about what we were doing with Gelblasters…… we simply all bought products and shared knowledge about how they worked and helped each other out to understand how to get the best brands and make the best upgrades/improvements possible for us all to enjoy the hobby.

If you dare google any content regarding Gelblasters in the USA right now, you will only find a massive majority of hip gangster wannabes who are flexing about getting bulk Walmart crap, or even a few actually buying some regular brand blasters and boasting that they are the Tony Sopranos of the Gelblaster world, even though they can’t even assemble a Gen8, fit a battery correctly, they put sights/grips on backwards, can’t grow/load/feed gels to save their lives and consider a hop up that they don’t even know how it works or how to adjust as a major “performance enhancing upgrade”

The most insane thing about my rant…… all of these uneducated idiots are garnering thousands of followers on their social media platforms who are soaking up all of the bad misinformation that they are spreading and experiencing countless issues with their own Gelblasters because they are believing/following the false information that these idiots are spreading to their followers.

Dunno what I’m trying to vent about here other than that the Americans seem to be a very different breed of people compared to how us Australians reacted to this hobby and the industry in supporting each other who shared genuine knowledge, and also the businesses that we all scrutinised for how they treated their customers and their reputation in this industry.

The basis of the most highly followed and supported Gelblaster YouTuber’s in the USA right now are the ones with the biggest collection of $29.95 Walmart Splatterballs and a single ABS Plastic XM13 as their “Extremely heavily modified” big dollar blaster that they flex on

Agree 100%, Doc… a lot of it’s cultural, the dealings I had with the Boeing Seattle crew were always very competitive. There seemed to be an ingrained need to big note and a demand for respect which they thought they’d get by running their acheivements up the flag pole every five minutes. Having said that, there were some reps who were quite humble and great blokes… just not the majority of them.

Funny thing was that all the reps who visited Oz were given a little handbook on how to deal with us. One of the statements in it that sticks in my mind was “Don’t try to impress Australians with your list of professional acheivements… they tend to view anyone who does this with suspicion and will lead to you being alienated”. Put into simpler terms, it means we don’t like bullshit artists and big-noting wankers…

I’ve left a few comments under some Youtube clips correcting bad information and what I usually get back is passive aggressive aggro heavily laden with a"how dare you correct me" vibe.

So I figure, let them run that 11.1v 3S lipo in that “cutting edge” Vector V2… maybe they need to learn the hard way like we did.

Well shit, tell it how it is why don’t ya :joy: I just spilt my drink

Have you got a patent on that I might use it shortly  I was having a shit day now I’m laughing my head off. Well done captain, I love it :+1: :love_you_gesture:

It goes back a long time to world war 2. When 4000+ were stationed in Queensland somewhere to reinforce us, the yanks wouldn’t let up on our soldiers because they were getting paid 4x the wage. They were being smartasses non stop until a few aussie diggers had a gutsfull and punched fuck out of them in the camp. The US military police went in with a 12G and killed an Aussie soldier. The Aussie soldiers rioted and blockaded the camp for the following week. True story look it up.

Even my Uncle as I asked what he did in Nam, avoid the yanks as they were that off their face they were shooting at us.

I do have american ties as half my family is there I never speak to. Last time I saw them, they said “oh my god yo talk so fast” I pissed myself laughing.

I forget who said it, but some video I was watching recently was talking about why Americans are so resistant to things like public Medicare, and unions, and other things that are really important to the working class. About why even the poorest of them won’t vote to socialize the absolute basics, like us. It said;

“Poor Americans don’t view themselves as poor or working class, they view themselves as temporarily embarrassed billionaires, even if they’ll never have a tenth of that in their life”.

I think that says a lot about their attitudes in general, really. I think it’s exactly why they behave that way with gel blasters, too. They aren’t rookies, just starting to come up in the hobby with a wealth of knowledge to learn, and grow into. They’re temporarily embarrassed experts, day one. And how dare you correct them, because they are the expert. Look, they have a YouTube channel to prove it.

Exactly. They are the same as me at the end of day anyway. 45% english, a fair bit of german and some dutch thrown in for good measure since the 1600’s well before England tried too colonize the place. I wonder where George Washington come from

They are proud and better because they fought themselves and won.

Edit: I certainly do not have any German or Dutch bloodline

50% Irish here…

Which is why I struggle with wiring…

I have read all about the brawls in QLD amongst the US Troops and the local Aussies stepping in to back up their own Soldiers.

Seen a bit of old new footage from the events at the time as well, which was very interesting!

My Grandfather and my old man weren’t very fond of the US Troops during their Service either, and would always cringe when they heard a thick loud American accent in a crowd.

I know that not all Americans are that bad, but it certainly seems to be the vast majority of them for sure.

Funnily enough the incident that kicked off the Battle of Brisbane was actually a group of Aussies sticking up for a Yank against an overzealous American MP.

Which one of them :joy: Battle of Brisbane - Wikipedia

Even Wiki is redacted LOL

It was from the Australian Film Archives, who are continuing to add previously restricted/classified old PATHE War footage to be released :+1::sunglasses:

The big one, although the Yanks had a habit of stirring up a fuss wherever they ended up

That being said, both sets of my paternal great-grandparents had pretty glowing opinions of the Americans they dealt with over here during the war.

mm bit of a hot topic, I read a book that had a Aussie soldiers recount of what actually happened while he was stationed there and how the gov tried to hush it down as it was not a real good time for that sort of thing to be happening.

There was a lot to it, best thing is to read about it, or watch, I haven’t seen that besides photos that the doc mentions. From what I read the Yanks just kept paying the piss out of the local off duty army guys because they were on such a lower wage while the yanks were on war time pay sitting there drinking our piss and stealing our women  omg LOL

You must be very young if they were your great grandparents. My great uncle Haley made 100 years old in 2016 before he passed away 6 months later. Got a letter from the queen and the at the time Sir Cosgrove. Didn’t even apply for it my aunt said. Not many make it that far.

Change of pace…squiddy needs a boot…
