Dad’s got a 110 series with the 4.5 petrol, close to what you looking at.

It’s slow as it’s heavy, it drinks, kiss your apprentice wage good bye. Dad’s has gas on it so that’s something you do not want today as that is being phased out Australia wide and requires a few extras set up to run ok.

Anything with solid diffs are the best off road. Things like my Ranger, current Hilux, Isuzu with wishbone front and CV’s anything half serious off road just breaks where the solid axle ones do not. Mates Colorado sniffed the edge of tree with the wheel at 10Klm/hr snapped the CV, 4 grand later and me towing it was fixed. Oh and my fee of 2 cartons of beer.

In saying that the 110 is comfortable and strong. It drinks twice the amount of fuel as my Ranger and goes half as fast. The choice is yours

My mate just got a Y62 Patrol, get one of those they fkn rock :+1: :+1: :+1:

And plug it in to your house every 20 mins

I’ll bite, the grease off the ball joints and UNI’s killed the lawn

I’ve got my Pig Rooter farm bus, 1975 FJ45 with 2F, solid as had it for 24 years, replaced clutch, normal shit filters, front ball joints. Hauls ass up the sand hills heaps of grunt. Uses stuff all fuel around farm as generally below 40klm’hr depending how much beer has been consumed. Did have it on road for awhile and it drank fuel trying to keep 100k with the 4 speed box. No car made today would last what I’ve put that FJ through with the repairs I have done. Bet my life on it.

Eveyone keeps trying to buy it off me. Even 16yo roustabouts. But then I have to replace it… with what?

The cost to buy a ranger would be the same as a 100 series + many years worth of fuel, rego etc. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure the 105 series is basically the 100 series with a solid front axle

Also the next person that says I should just buy a patrol is getting perma banned when I become mod

Whaat, I bought a Ranger as the Landcruiser was twice the price LMAO

What year ranger are you talking ?

PK 2011 Super Cab 3.0 Diesel, heard all the horror stories. They are from dimwits that don’t know an air filter from an oil filter. Had for 3 years now, did a few reliability tweaks and so far it does the job.

Dunno probly got my numbers and years mixed up. Not that I care big fat slow things until you throw money at them. If you have any left after buying one.

You shoulda seen my mates Y62, now that’s a beast, CV’s all round and a decent motor to break them with

There you have it… don’t need to be scared of mods being heavy handed with the Ban Hammer, as we’ll Ban each other so the rest of the members will be in the clear to run amuck!

A Prado is another option if they are a bit cheaper, but be aware that they are a “soft roader” with much less strength and ability than a proper 4WD, and are also loaded with much more electronics to go wrong at exactly the wrong moment

@Maiphut has given great advice regarding solid axle vehicles, which I also recommend as the only way to go.

Nothing wrong with an Auto 100 series if they are more in your budget range, chew a bit more fuel than a manual, but that’s money saved in the initial purchase price.

The reality is that if you can’t afford to fill the tank, then you simply won’t be going on that weekend trip or will be taking public transport to work for that week

The main point is that yes, an Automatic 100 series will be a thirsty pig, but will be extremely tough, reliable and cheap to repair/service.

Any later model 4WD loaded with extremely fragile engines, drive lines and electronics will be much more unreliable and expensive for servicing and repairs.

I’ve had just about every single model Toyota 4WD ever made, as well as a G60 Wagon , MQ Shorty, MQ Cab Chassis and now the GQ Wagon Nissan’s.

I can honestly say that the engineering and capabilities of the Nissan’s does come out on top in my 35 years of experience with all of these different vehicles in all terrains and conditions that Australia has thrown at me both through work and leisure travel.

If you can find a manual 100 series, awesome, but don’t be put off if you find a pristine version going cheap because it’s an Automatic :ok_hand:

Just save yourself the hassle and get a fairly new Merc X Class.:joy:

I’m being serious.

Is the day should come, when squiddies a mod,
The geo-political system, has run slipshod…

How did we come, to unwarranted selection,
Without due course, and fair election?

To uphold that power, and raise thy hammer,
Thou must leave, thy Victorian slammer…

His aspirations dark, and ink is murky,
To raise mjolnir, thou must be worthy…

With blood red moon, and on dark tide,
Squiddy seeks to sit, at trumps right side…

Even Eminem can’t match your spitting Rhymes @BME :sunglasses:

You wasting your talents piloting cylindrical aluminium toilet blocks around the stratosphere

Ever witnessed a Mercedes X Class at Inskip Point @The_General ?

Nah, I didn’t think so :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Perfect rig for squiddy…

Off roading, and boating, all in the one rig…

I have seen an army duck, at inskip pt…!!
Short wheel base, though…

Close but no Cigar mate.

What comes out of the chassis/bodywork when you wash out a 4WD that’s been out on the beach for a few days…SALT!

What happens to a beautiful green lawn if you soak it with Salt water :hushed:

Yeah, learnt real early to wash the 4WD’S out on the road, not on the Lawn

I did some quick research on that beast, and I doubt that Squidguts can afford 132.5 litres per hour of driving range :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Maybe my Dad’s must be a 105. Solid front/rear. 4.5 petrol. Auto. 50th Anniversary edition. I dunno I just have to fix the bloody thing as he too old. Last thing was the air box, the plastic is shit and crumbled. Must be common as I was customer 1200. Couldn’t get a Toyota one for under $800, I found a Chinese knock off on eBay baby for $80 delivered with the clips.

As it has gas too, I told him keep cycling the petrol or it’ll turn to glue and fk your injectors up. Nope didn’t listen took to mechanic drop the tank sort all the shit out $800 ching.

Keeping that fuel flowing is extremely important, as your old man found out

I hope you running a Flash lube system with that gas as well?

Online parts shopping:
I’ve been blown away by the amount of brand new parts available for the 36 year old Nissan in comparison to the wallet draining headaches that I had with my Toyota’s!

The most surprising thing is that genuine Nissan parts are only about 5-10% dearer than the cheap Chinese aftermarket crap available :hushed:

Toyota parts are 10 times the cost of Chinese copies, and a lot of stuff is no longer available for most of the older models at all

If you can get Chinese replacements, no problem, because they will get you out of the shit without costing an arm and a leg, and you are fully aware that they might not fit exactly right or last as long, but they will suit your needs for now :+1:

For the extra 5-10%, I’ve been getting all genuine Nissan parts for the old Kettle as I go through it :white_check_mark:

Nissan keep a good stock of parts for their old models. Had the a/c compressor go on a 280ZX we owned and Nissan still had the part 25 years later, it was cheaper than generic replacement and they shipped it overnight from Japan. One of the guys in the club just got some new original parts for a 720 extended cab. Try getting some washer jets for your 10 year old Falcon.

Have to be careful with some Toyota Parts. Friend needed a new manual gearbox for Cruiser that was about to run out of warranty. Got it shipped and it was trash after about a month of use. Had all the hassles associated with dealer trying to avoid warranty claim. Turned out that Toyota had shipped a domestic market box rather than the heavier export market item. Son-in-law has been waiting three months for parts for his 10 year old Prado

It’s always a lottery with old cars
