Can’t believe this is still ongoing… must have been one hell of a storm!
Yeah it washed away pretty much the whole beach around Southport to Burleigh and beyond. What they’re doing here is attempting to prevent further erosion and damage to infrastructure at the beachfront in surfers paradise…
A few of the workers I’ve talked to say what they’re doing is potentially going to make it worse because they’re disturbing sand that was already settled while they dug it out to lay in geomesh and bundles of bagged rocks then backfilling the sand but some pencil pusher thought it would be a good idea so they have to do what they’re told
Keeps me paid during what’s normally a slow period in my line of work so I can’t complain, except about lazy coworkers that refuse to pull their weight on this cruisy as f#ck gig, it’s pathetic
Sounds much like the Western Australian coast around here!
Nothing to do with storms or Cyclones, simply offshore coastal tidal flows that constantly run along the coastline devouring many metres of sand from the beaches and dumping it somewhere else further down the coast.
There were areas where I grew up in Mandurah that had many streets and houses washed into the ocean from these natural coastal ocean flows, so that’s when the pencil pushers decided to install many Groins jutting out along the entire region from north of Perth all the way down to Bunbury a couple of hundred kilometres away to try and disrupt the flow of sea water eating away at our coastline.
Yes, it actually worked…,…sort of… as it saved more streets and houses from slowly disappearing, but only dumped all of that sand in other areas along the coastline, completely changing the topography and natural flows of River and Estuary outlets so much that they then had to cut channels along the coastline to counteract the unexpected effects of doing what they did originally!
Basically, ya can’t feck around with nature.
Sure that you might be able to temporarily think that you have solved one issue, but it only leads to shifting the problem somewhere else!
Spot on, it’s like pushing shit uphill. It will slide down.
I’ve got my beach front ready, it’s still here from millions of years ago
You can live on a beach front, but don’t expect it to be permanent. Just move inland. Fighting a loosing battle trying to stop it.
But good work there @shadow187 more moola for the hobby fund
Mums getting older…fall risk is increasing…nobody wants that to happen.
Today was put some stairs in, with a handrail, so she no longer has to walk down the (steep and slippery) driveway…
3 step stringer, drilled and dyna-bolted into the concrete pad and retaining wall…
Tasmanian Oak steps, and handrail…
Applied some non slip grip, and applied some Cabots Jarrah timber stain.
First coat done, let it soak in and dry, and do a couple of extra coats…
Should be safe for her to get down now, to rake the leaves / check the mail box / go for a walk…
I’ll get two 60x 60 cm pavers, and some sand, to level and flatten up top.
Remove some of the white stones, level with sand, and put the pavers in.
Saves her walking on loose white stones, and maybe rolling an ankle.
A flat and graded transition, from entryway bricks, to the steps…
Nice work mate, but didn’t mention anything about moving that Pot plant outta the way for starters!
Should be a good looking and operational addition to the home
She actually uses it, for balance…
She’s getting slower now…likes to grab and hold onto things for support…
Cutting some tracks in for the nieghbour. Got a flat. Went walking for k’s to my ute to get tools, came back to fix it and got a flat on the ute
I made a mess
Wouldn’t be cheap to fix a flat on one of those I would assume
How much you gonna pay me
Gotta be at least 3 cartons worth!
Depends if you’re gunna do it properly or half ass it like some of the c#nts Ive been stuck with all week at work
I caught this guy sleeping right next to an excavator that was operating less than 15m from where he was napping also in plain site of the workers, ganger and general public.
I swapped him out and moved him to another location where he wouldn’t be able to sleep on the job. I should’ve sent him home but I’m not a total prick and it’s a slow time of the year for work and he hadn’t had much work in the past month he claims, although it’s easy to see why
I told the ganger they should’ve picked him up with the excavator and buried him as part of their beachfront re-stabilising
Some people need to be paid what they’re worth, performance based.
They don’t pay me enough for the babysitting I’m constantly finding myself doing every single shift I work, I swear
I hear ya, used to do that. I didn’t care as I heard all the excuses for not doing the job. Give em a chance, happens again, there’s the door. You end up not caring.
Self employed I have to do a good job or I will show myself the door
It is amazing how some people keep their jobs!
My attitude to work is I will give it a fair go, try my best and just hook in and get it done.
There is always one lazy prick that makes it hard for everyone!
I was a manager for years, and that added “babysitter” to my list of experience, mind you if a manager or boss thinks it is easy it is because they are a shit manager/boss!
In most cases, bums in seats is all they care about. Keeping the numbers up so the company can accept as much work as they can and make as much money as possible.
They don’t care what happens on the job as long as the job gets done, there’s no incidents and they don’t get any complaints, although there’s that many useless, lazy shit cunts in this industry, the complaints are always rolling in
And they wondered why I rejected their hints at me stepping into an office role. Why would I do that when then I’d have to deal with all the children in the kindergarten rather than just a few on my crews, plus a pay cut to deal with the wingers, fuck that
Happy Easter All…!!
Be safe, especially on the roads.!
Glorious day, great for drying…
So, before lunch, did a few more coats of oil on the steps…
Top down shot, from the front door.
The plan for 2morrow is, move the pot a bit to the left, remove some white stone, grade and level down with sand, then cut and place 60x60 pavers.
Got some fancy styled ones from bunnings…add some glam…
They were quite affordable…only $17 each.! Score.!
Then, The Queen of Sheeba can do the royal wave to her subjects below, before she descends the staircase, to grace them with her presence…
Or, just come down safely to check the mail…!!
Ain’t that sweet…
All those years of marriage, and they still do everything together….!
(Hope they weren’t hurt)…
When people ask the question: “what’s the hardest thing in life” , I always say GRAVITY!
Spend your whole life fighting it, and is more difficult the older you get.
Each time you lose the fight, you don’t know how severe the outcome is gonna be!
