Moneybags

My Superbug was the darker orange :tangerine:

I sold it to a Beetle dealer with a bit of panel damage and heat damange around the rear valance about a week before moving up to Bananaland for $500 in 2005. Kind of a forced sale.

He had it panelbeaten, resprayed and on the lot the next day for $5K!

Man did I get ripped!

HAHA Dood, dream the fk on. It’s a fucking Volkswagen. Not an Oval window at that. Throw it in the bin.

I should know, as my first car was a Type 3 notchback in good condition. After a few years of driving it 20mins to and fro work, the motor needed attention. Crankcase was dyechecked and cracked, the OE german heads were cracked around the spark plug holes where they always shit themselves.

So several grand later, new Brazilian crankcase, got the German heads welded and machined, decked, ported, bumpy cam fell in, new 1776 barrels with Mahle pistons went in, the Twin carbs got bigger jets along with a free flowing exhaust I had to modify so it didn’t drag on the ground.

Spent a grand getting the gearbox rebuilt, new synchros, bearings everything, by the best in VW Debiasi and he warned me probly won’t be any better, and it wasn’t.

I ended up selling it to Peter Debiasi’s wife as I was over the chick magnet notchback sedan and needed a Holden ute to go do real things with only a lame 6cyl.

Never looked back. They are money pits. The Volksworld parts supplier loved me  It was allright.

One thing it was good for was shooting out in the scrub, never get bogged on sandy hills. Nearly rolled it chasing vermin, on another occasion nearly sent it down a 20ft cement causeway off the side of Grand Junction Rd, was inches away from dropping in. Walked back to the servo truck stop to call a tow and a truckie was there, no worries mate I’ll come down with the prime mover and tow you out. What a legend, he was laughing, don’t worry I did that at your age   :+1:

While I’m on the subject of motors @DocBob . A farmer mate I just caught up with. His Patrol with 4.2 Diesel he spent 10k on rebuilding and blew up again.

Now he’s got a brand new long motor from Nissan Japan for $25k. Quoted $32k. See how long that lasts, jeesus christ. My Ford slut didn’t even cost that to buy outright and 6 years later it still goes. That’s all I need. :face_with_diagonal_mouth: out of my league I’m afraid.

Grew up building VW Buggies when we were kids in the 70’s, hence loving being able to tear into one again all these years later, especially when people are asking stupid money for Bugs these days and NOBODY is hacking them up into Dune Buggies!

I was never a fan of the Pregnant Rollerskates, only good as buggy fodder to chop up and muck around with!:joy:

The 4.2 in my Patrol has just clicked over 370k recently, not bad for a 38 year old vehicle and still running like a Swiss watch, hopefully for quite a few more to see out my travelling days.:crossed_fingers:

My father-in-law built VW based engines for homebuilt aircraft in the 1980’s. He designed and machined dual magneto mounts, hall effect ignitions using double ended Yamaha bike coils. fuel injection systems using modified Weber DCOE manifolds and dual turbo systems using Yamaha bike turbos.

One of the engines was installed in a Rand Robinson KR2 that outperformed the competition until the prop shared on one run. The engine ended up in the US as part of a legal case and was “disappeared” . It was last seen in a sport aircraft in Chino. Long story about Chino suppliers who supplied oval barrels to Australian suppliers who were a long way away, until one of them dumped the crap on their counter at Chino one July.

FIL got peed off at all the homebuilt bitchiness and CAA belligerence and went back to working on Lycomings. The last VW engine he built was 2200cc using Okrasa crank, roller rockers, injection and double ended Yamaha coil ignition… All balanced and blueprinted within a poofteenth.

My 1776 had full aircraft spec low friction bottom end but we keep the runners small so it wouldn’t rev past 6500rpm. Case was original so we didn’t take it to 1883.

They were a bunch of clever old guys, Their go-getter was kombi with a 350 chev and auto mid-mounted under the floor. He and his mate Sollie used to cruise up and down Milperra road blowing the pretty boy V8s away

Mmm I’m not exactly sure why he’s had so much trouble. He had his mechanic mates rebuild it first time, reckons they did the bores too tight or something. Costly adventure none the less for a farm ute. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Mine’s the old original early model Silvertop TD42 whereas the following Blacktop TD42 Model released around 1992 in the GU’s were renowned for being nowhere near as strong or reliable after Nissan re-engineered a few components within the engines.

took the red dot off the G22. Too hard being right handed and very left eye dominant. Put the extended beaver tail back on so I dont get slide bite trying to fire left handed with a crappy grip. Would probably help if I had a full complement of fingers on the left hand

It’s a later model. Last one they had the diesel 6 in.

Oh well he’s got a brand new long motor in it now.

They are all manual springers and not all are gel ball, The S&W is a plastic model I’ve had for over 30 years. Think I picked it up in Seoul with the Beretta

May be onto a win today…

I bought a new electric leather couch, 3 seater, when i moved into the new place.
Its had some miles on the clock, few years old, and the cushion is getting a bit worn and soft. (Medinchina Foam, im sure…)

I got it from hardly normal, so i rang up to see if they know of upholsterer who could replace the cushions…with everything disposable nowadays, i wasn;t holding much hope.

I spoke to the guy, must have been a slow day, he was up for a chat.

HE brought up donald trump first…!!

Red rag to a bull, so i hit him with my impersonation, and some trump depreciating material…

He had a good laugh, and said i made his day.!!

He then went on to say, we can organise a warranty claim at no cost…!!
New cushions, and maybe even new upholostery…!!
Score…!!

Does this mean i’ve profited from trump.??
:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:  :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
His teleprompter got sacked for doing that…!!

 :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Being Father’s Day tomorrow I had to rearrange my standard schedule, going to my mates place to carry on the next chapter of the VW BEETLE Beach Buggy build.:sunglasses:

Finally have the first coat of Primer on the body, which is a huge step in the final direction of getting the bodywork finished.:ok_hand:

Not looking too bad considering that my mate has a LONG career in owning and running Panel and Paint businesses, which means that it’s EXTREMELY hard to “pull back” and keep the reality of the project that is essentially a Beach Buggy, not a customers $30k Porsche!

I’m still doubting that he will simply continue to give this the final Paint finish without getting out the sanding files and guide coats for the 20th time, but all I know from this very long known mate is that he won’t rest until the end result is perfect no matter what the vehicle is.

It’s a bit like @BME and his paint colours, where “near enough” is certainly never “good enough”!

I’ve got plenty of parts on order and looking forward to fitting up all of the electrical components to be the icing on the cake for this project.:ok_hand:

The sideline project to this is that I have offered him my old Car Trailer that got destroyed in the Waroona Bushfires as another project that I’ve offered to give him for free and do whatever I can to make sure that he has a Car Trailer to pair up with this classic Buggy😎

Check out the light reflections on all of the roof and body panels that were full of holes and looked like the surface of the Sahara Desert on the original body that we picked up after decades of abuse and neglect, now having to tell him to back thafuck up and just accept that it’s his personal Dune Buggy, NOT a big dollar paying Customers restoration project!

P.S: He smoothed out all of the welds on the original metal body except for the front “mudguards”.

People just assume that it’s an aftermarket Fibreglass replica bodyshell, so he’s left a few exposed welded areas just to show that its all actually an original modified METAL body.:ok_hand:

Nice.

At least the wiring job won’t require a computer!

It has been quite a while nice build!

only a replacement for a fuse box that has ceramic fuses and relays for the big mother LED spots across that front flat panel

None of that newfangled crap here mate!
Just a pair of old fashioned 7" globe powered spotties.:sunglasses:
