I’d like to start off by showing my appreciation and giving many thanks to @RokSolid and @AKgelblaster for getting these in. They took my by surprise when I noticed they were released on the website the other night after rok’s post on the forum so a big thanks goes to everyone involved in making this forum possible and keeping it running, thanks everyone
On with the show
Upon opening the box, we find an extremely well presented and safely packed Sten MKII in shock absorbent black foam, keeping it nice and safe in transport and ongoing storage
Don’t ask what shade of black the foam is, it’s black foam FFS
After removing the contents of the box, you will find included, the reciever, the stock, a magazine, a 7.4v xt30 battery, a 7.4v charger, a clip seal bag containing the stock end cap and priming handle, and a small pack of 250+ FPS 7.0mm Ultra hard GBB Green gel balls
The reciever is solid metal, likely aluminium, has a nice weight to it, and is study and strong. The lower half of the reciever where the gearbox is located is nylon but feels pretty sturdy and strong. There is a slight rattle from the priming handle plate with some movement and give in mine which presents itself if you jog with it and are moving around a considerable amount but if you’re just standing around shooting you likely won’t notice it much unless fiddling with it.
There is the tiniest bit of play in the stock when assembled but it is still very sturdy and solid and no major movement or wobble
It also appears the stock can be unscrewed to possibly change the stock or change it to a hand grip, if a suitable replacement can be found and customised to fit
There is limited battery space and you have to be careful when inserting the battery and tucking the cables in safely in order to insert the endcap for the battery compartment, it can take a bit of trial and error gently tucking the cables in as there is very little space, I don’t think there will be many battery upgrade options to fit, but trial and error would prevail
The magazine is nylon which is spring and motor driven and has a bit of a chunky weight to it. To load the magazine you must remove the sliding plate on the bottom of the magazine, and pull the spring out then load the gels into the bottom of the magazine.
It has some nice features and markings helping to make it feel and look more genuine like the stamped Sten MKII long branch 1943 on the mag well, basic iron sights like the original, fire select between safe semi and full auto, functional mag prime, and the muzzle can be unscrewed to fit a silencer or a sling adaptor
Performance wise, I have only tried some week old x-force super pinks, and highest FPS I got was around 220 averaging around 200, a few of which were breaking up and leaving it’s traces in the mag well so I think I will try some ultra hard gels tomorrow as I have seen other listings overseas of these claiming 250 FPS but we’ll soon find out
Accuracy is pretty decent as well considering old gels were used, only got the odd flyer that strayed well away and the grouping was pretty good as well, around the size of a large dinner plate so not too shabby
And who could complain at $229 with free shipping for this awesome reproduction of one of the most iconic weapons of WWII?
Certainly not me I’m absolutely stoked to have been lucky enough to snag one before they sold out
Not sure I’ve quite given this version of the Sten MKII the credit it’s due or gone into as much detail as it deserves, for a WW2 collectible it’s pretty accurate in its size weight and appearance
All in all I’m extremely happy with my purchase and I highly recommend anyone interested grabs one while they still can
Great price, great piece of history, fun to shoot, fast delivery, fkn fantastic
Definitely try some unless hard gels, spring mags really don’t do the shape of gels and favours!
One note for the quick change spring… it seems to get caught in the receiver so isn’t actually quick change unless the gearbox is removed.
They do looks and feels the part though, and true to the original are about as ergonomic as a bike with no seat.
I’d love to keep one for myself, but I might wait and see if there is another load, they are around half sold out now and I’m happy to see them going to good people so far!
The “other stock”, with the link i posted, is steel.
If these alloy wire loops are screwed on, it should be possible to get the Alt stock, remove Alt stock from the Alt base, and weld it on to the genuine base plate.
The genuine base plate will fit and function easily, easy removals, and get that OG look…
I haven’t welded before…how is it to weld a steel stock, to an alloy baseplate.?
First off, steel is an alloy… iron and carbon with a few other things like manganese thrown in. Any mix of metals becomes an alloy.
By alloy I figure you’re talking about aluminium, or in this case, Chinesium? Steel can’t be welded to aluminium, but can be joined by brazing if very specialised processes are used. Nothing would be a guaranteed stick to Chinesium.
Short answer? No, you can’t weld 'em together unless you’re working at Lockheed Martin or Raytheon.
Your best option would be to mechanically join the components with the use of epoxy and fasteners.
Pretty sure @Maiphut could add some wisdom to this from his time spent in the mag wheel industry.
I was trying to find a range of alternative stocks and grips and other accessories to play dress ups with my Sten like beemer does with everything lol, a lot of which ar hard to find and would only be available as repro’s or original parts, both of which can get up there in price.
