Offshoot RC Models/Drone Hobby Thread

Rear end on, going to try the trailing leaf spring see how that goes.

Short a few screws to bolt the rear shocks on, found a couple that are bit short but have to do for now. Searched high and low through all my bolt stashes. Nothing. :joy:

With the odd size screws I found they are using…

In that range, explains everything. I haven’t used them before. M2, M3, M4, M5 I’m used to. Man you’d need a monster allen key set to cover all of those :joy:

Still doesen’t explain putting an imperial head on an M2 screw :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Coming together nicely mate, and thanks for posting that chart … will come in handy when searching for the right size bolt kits in the future :ok_hand:

I spent the arvo dicking around with the Tan C-14 trialling out different rims/tyres and shock positions, but have since taken them all off again and got a few more different sized bits in my Shopping Carts to suit what I’m chasing. :sunglasses:

Just for shits’n’giggles…

Waiting on some long adjustable link arms for the suspension to stretch out the wheelbase a bit to get rid of the SWB stumpy toy look that’s created by lifting the diffs, as well as fitting a set of chassis plates to lower the gearbox to ease the angles on the driveshafts.

Also have a couple of sets of 12mm axle extensions in the post to widen the wheel track, as the tyres are still tucked in under the bodywork pretty tight and the fronts are catching on the outside edges of the front bullbar under full steering lock and full upper suspension travel.

Hard to see in the pics, but my favourite black rims/tyres the body comes all the way out to the centre of the tread, and the MKT silly looking white Monster Truck Wheels have the bodywork around 1/3rd over the inside of the tyres.

Don’t matter anyrate, because those big white MKT Monster Truck Wheels were ordered specifically for my FMS Chevy C10 Longbed pickup anyways!

Those black rims and tyres are from a 1/10 scale high speed all wheel drive car type track racing vehicle, NOT intended for a low speed 1/18th scale 4WD Hilux rock crawler, but they just look cool for their size and design on this rig!:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’m loving the fact that these replicate more of a ā€œRedneck Swamp Buggyā€ look more than a proper scaled ā€œMonster Truckā€ when you look at the Hilux body/wheel arch size in comparison.

Compare the size of the original spare rim/tyre on the back tray, and they’re actually not much bigger despite their looks! :flushed:

But that’s the whole point, take measurements and order whatever crap suits what you are chasing no matter what the original purposes are designed for!

So I now have stock 1/10 scale speed/performance track rims and tyres on a crawler speed 1/18th scale offroader!

Will keep mucking around until I get it looking and functioning as I want it to be.

I love those table top shots with the house as a backdrop, Doc.

So realistic. :+1:

Looking mad there Doc :+1:

That’s something I did on the clodbuster when I lifted it, put longer 4 link arms in to stretch the wheelbase back out. Being MOA there is no center box to worry about on that one.

I’m already eyeing off models for a next project… I must stoppit  Fix up my others that are in bits might be a good start. Clod and Baja.

Gotta say…

The mods you guys do to these RC trucks are next level. Mindblowing… :exploding_head:

Setup all the elec gear, centered the steering servo and bolted that up.

Dry run on the bench seems good. Man that brushless outrunner has some awesome slow speed by the looks, no cogging.

Tie all the elec gear in, hog out the inside of the body for clearance and be time for a shakedown run. Getting closer :metal:

Shakedown completed, not too bad but needs a lot of correcting.

Shocks are too stiff lifts wheels and rears too short squats in the bum. Tyres are too hard next to no grip should be rectified when new rims arrive and put sticky tyres on. Steering has bound up will attack that when screws arrive.

Not a bad first run, impressed with the motor, super smooth crawl speed and plenty of zap for the size model.

I’ve got to investigate the thread size it’s around M2.2 M2.3 for the wheel retaining screws on the axle as I want to trim them back a bit to tuck the wheels in more but will need a tap to clean the threads.

Plenty more to do yet :+1:

This ones got to be M2.5mm. Good I can get a tap for that. Not the rest.

Can’t find my thread pitch gauges, not that I’d be able to see  Man this stuff is small.

Looks like it is all using M2 and M2.5mm thank the lords. The variances in these ultra high quality screws makes me think they are sometimes using in between.

Save some material M2

Brilliant work mate and looking full Gucci!

Yes shock performance is Russian Roulette when ordering online when spring rates are unknown in the advertising.

That’s where I always search the ā€œreviewsā€ section to see what customers have to say about their performance and what types of vehicles they are fitting them onto.

Those shocks I just got had plenty of reviews from people who were using them on the exact same size WPL models as mine, and they said were perfect spring tension, and also that even though they are oil type shocks, they run perfectly without even adding any oil to them… which is exactly what I’m doing and have found them to be perfect for the application. :raised_hands:

Only other thing I can recommend is using other holes in the chassis to tilt them over a few degrees if they are too hard, like I did here on this Tan C-14…

Original straight upright shocks:

New shocks laid over into different chassis hole positions:

Or you can also pull apart some old ball point pens and add the tiny springs to the inside of the shocks to strengthen up springs that are too soft…or simply just grab them and stretch the coils longer like I used to do with weak factory Gelblaster springs for that additional bit of oomph! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Cheers mate, appreciate it!
That’s actually the top of my little Camper Trailer that I tow behind the old '88 GQ Patrol, but makes a good workbench out in the backyard to play on and the wheel arches are a perfect place to rest my beers on top!:ok_hand::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Went shopping in this section…

INJORA Official Store - Amazing products with exclusive discounts on AliExpress

Oh dear… there goes the Credit Card on fire again! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Should see what else I bought for the Clodbuster or TXT-1. More beadlock rims  For my mud bogging tyres  Been meaning to get some for ages but couldn’t find them when I last looked for less than $250

MIBIDAO Aluminium Alloy 2.6 inch Beadlock Wheel Rims Hub for Axial Wraith 90048 RR10 Off-Road 1/10 RC Crawler Car Truck Model - AliExpress

Lucky I did buy them just noticed they went up by $4

Nice score mate!
Yeah it’s interesting how prices are fluctuating so hard right now.
Many items that I have in my cart have already gone up 5-10% when I check the current advertised price against what they were when I added them to my Cart originally.

Have been holding off the last couple of pays to reassess what parts I need to prioritise, but the longer I leave it, the more they are going to cost it would seem.

Luckily everything is still pretty cheap in this hobby anyrate, so only talking $3-$10 dearer at most from the low to higher end parts. :+1:

It’s just the climate, the aussie dollar went down this am, ASX be in a flurry today likely be on the news tonight how billions got lost on that crap

See if I care

Yeah all I’ve heard is people whinging about their Superannuation!
But that’s up to the individual and what Company they decided to put their Super into?

I’m very fortunate that I am in a ā€œDefined Benefitā€ fund, meaning that no matter what the markets do over the years that my Super has been accumulating, my final payout figure at retirement is set in stone. :ok_hand:
The offset is that it might not grow as much when the market is strong, but that’s more than made up for when the markets crash.

End results is a figure that’s on a steady upward line on the graph to the very top, not a rollercoaster looking squiggly line where you just have to hope and pray that it’s towards the top and not the bottom when you are due to access it!

Yup…me too.

Gives you a certain level of security…

I might get some CBA shares, when the price drops a bit more, and also put them into super…

Lets not start a seperate super / financial thread…!!

That sounds same as mine, it’s an investment super fund. It never goes down, when I sub contract to others that pay super it can be paid in no problems, but it’s like a savings account really, sure you might get zero percent interest at times, but I earnt 17k interest on mine last financial year but I can’t touch it as I’m too young. I can, but I incur 17-22% tax on withdrawal. I thought about it as could do with a 10k injection right now, but fk it I pay enough tax as it is I’ll just ride it out. I cost fuk all to run and don’t need gucci sneakers to go for a run around the block

Imagine all the RC cars I could buy with 10k haha you know I would be. Fk money, I’d rather be happy doing what I’m doing for a job. It is worth more than money. Just yesterday morning I woke up with one of my nightmares from where I used to work part reason why I quit. Looked around, thank fuck I’m at the farm with a sigh of relief. That place was too high tempo was getting to me and when you can’t sleep, you gotta quit. So I did and never looked back, never look like going broke, because I work, bit tight now but that was forecast I could see it coming. I have to be prepared for what comes, weather included.

Goodonya mate, definitely a life changing attitude to live bye!

I’ve obviously been the same for many years now, and can’t recommend it highly enough. :raised_hands:

Been way up there as a ā€œrichā€ prick, but have also lived the life of a pauper.

I’m honestly enjoying the fact that I’m a broke arse homeless drifter much more than when I had millions of dollars worth of assets and personal wealth.

That’s why after getting rid of EVERYTHING that I ever owned and compressing it down to a single old 4WD and my camping gear has been so liberating in not having to give a shit about feckall anymore!

Just keeping the head above water enough to fund my hobbies and whatever basic means to stay afloat.

Speaking of which… Just brought another Boat for some stupid reason other than I haven’t received my first one yet, even though it’s now landed in Australia and have AusPost Tracking , I ain’t spending anything else on RC Crawler parts for a while anrate!

This is the older original very first Brushless powered UDIRC version ARROW 5 boat, which is so old and has the same reputation as the old Gen8’s in the Gelbaster hobby, which is why I just HAD to order one despite having a modern ā€œV2ā€ Gelbaster style boat on its way already with the UDIRC 002 Tylosaurus latest version for my collection!

It’s simply a part of the history of the evolution of RC Boats that I couldn’t resist owning. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

These are the same people that I posted about the newer UDIRC Tylosaurus boat that I already have on the way, but their review video only featured it on the supplied 3S battery and NOT the 4S power that they are designed to run at 55MPH plus!

But this Aussie fella with the same lack of knowledge about RC Boats pretty much summed it up for me;

Then actually ran the Tylosaurus on the intended 4S battery!

That’s mad! Looks like fun. There is the river 80klms away  :joy: put the credit card down and step away from the keyboard slowly
