Offshoot RC Models/Drone Hobby Thread

Not normal, staple diet.

Tried that Marmite crap? I did once or twice :face_vomiting:

Took all day going through boxes to find it, but with the Chinese B6 back in action, can finally cut my Battery Recharge times in half! :raised_hands:

Took a while to reset it though, as has been packed away for so long, it had defaulted back to factory settings and I originally couldn’t even find the LiPo function. :hushed:

Was going to give it away a while back, luckily I held onto it as is now going to come in VERY handy with this hobby!

You still got the alligator 12v clips with those to charge off a real car battery while you are out for a session? I’ve done it but still technically in my back yard. :+1:

Yeah gottem somewhere, but still got bad memories of back when we were younger doing Road Closures for the World Rally Championship out in the Forrests.

My younger brother and I brought along our TAMIYA RC Buggies to keep us amused between the Race Stages, using the Alligator Clips on the old man’s HILUX battery all day… needless to say we had to roll start it and copped a good tongue lashing the whole way home! :hushed:

So yeah, have shied away from that whole method of recharging batteries ever since! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

SKYRC vs. ChinaRc:

Both exact same OVONICS twin batteries on each charger to bring back to Storage Charge after this afternoon’s run in the new Speedboat.

After 32 minutes…
SKYRC: 775mAh.
ChinaRC: 240mAh.

After 1 hour…
SKYRC: 1600mAh into the next battery pack.
ChinaRC: Just reached 770mAh on the FIRST OVONICS that I had plugged into it! :face_exhaling:

So yeah, the ChinaRC does the job and does it well, but just takes twice as long to get there!

Mm might be a bad one which are out there. And where we get tripped up.

That resetting to default factory sounds off to me. But I am no expert.

Mine hold there settings even sitting idle for 6 months yet mine are HobbyKing knockoffs and work awesome as I know my way around a multimeter.

Cheers mate, but yeah, China Copy of the real deal SKYRC… so I haven’t used it in probably 3 years, so the internal programme memory definitely died in the arse!

It’s all good now, just been so long since I used it, had to relearn myself how to reprogramme it, and my memory is cooked! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It does work well, as seen a British Electronics Expert put one through its paces on his big bench full of big dollar technical equipment… so have plenty of faith that it does the job to the technical specifications that LiPo batteries require, it just takes twice as long on some certain settings. :face_exhaling:

Doesn’t help when those crappy OVONIC batteries already have a Cell in the pack that is dodgy, where the computer in the charger is constantly having to jump back and forth between applying/cutting charge to the other 2 good Cells to wait for the dead Cell to catch up.

PS: UDIRC 5 ARROW ain’t quite as fast as the UDIRC 002 TYLOSAURUS. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Only difference is that the ARROW has a different plastic prop and smaller 3S only ESC.

Had them both out today, and while not a whole lot slower, enough to notice between the two different models.

Might mean that the plans have changed and the plain jane looking ARROW might get the full chop and modify treatment so I can keep enjoying the faster 4S TYLOSAURUS in the meantime instead.

Bonus with the extensive availability of aftermarket parts is that I can basically purchase the whole same TYLOSAURUS Stainless Steel/Alloy rear systems and bolt it straight in place of the ARROW’s plastic parts. :raised_hands:

And try balance it if they don’t come up will take hours. That’s when that battery has to go.

Realise you know what you are doing and know more than me just chatting sharing experiences.

Might help is the intention.

The other thing is they get firmware updates which I have done but you need a computer and stuff which I have done and improve things.

But if you have a dead cell, won’t matter it will take all day to balance out. Which seems like is your root cause. Which fkn sucks. I had a look at those OVONICS seemed ok until I deep dived further. But you get that in manufacturing. these days

The old saying they don’t make them like that anymore rings true in damn near everything these days.

Tried a refund from the supplier @DocBob ? As that’s not on and dangerous.

haha surely one of these… no?

Haven’t been in contact with the Supplier as yet…had a lot going on and keep forgetting to chase them up while I’m dealing with more important things in life right now.

Yes you are right, just one lazy Cell is enough to destroy the whole battery pack and slows the Balance Charge Rate down to a Snails Pace. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Have a few decent quality CHNL Packs on the way, which aren’t cheap but have had excellent reviews from the Electrical Testing Nerds out there on their speciality equipment/graphs/spreadsheets etc.

Forgot to mention I took your advice and have a tube of this sitting behind the counter at the Auto Store in one of the bigger neighbouring Towns, and just waiting to get there mid next week sometime to pick it up and make it a permanent part of the Speedboat Toolbox.:ok_hand:

Cool, it’s worth a try. Or I owe you pizza that @BME is paying for  Similar but different brand has been going great in things like the Baja 5B, even the Tamiya Grasshopper I gave the back end a once over with that stuff instead of oil. In some of the Tamiya kits they supply house brand Ceramic lightweight grease which works well. But it’s hard to get hold of and costs 3 left nuts when you can get it.

Yes I feel the daily pains. Went to the pub to get beer and they were out of my one. I said fkn what. Uh oh end of the world now  Managed to refinance and sort shit out after hours on the phone with supposed drought assistance I still haven’t got a cent for. Patience is wearing thin my man, very fkn thin. But anyway I’m getting it done. I don’t fk around. Funny to pop on here and have a laugh with others including yourself so appreciate that. had a couple good laughs today

Keep Calm and Carry on I say.

Goodonya mate, keep fighting the fight! :muscle:

Cheers, I know I complain about it but people don’t realize how bad it is. But I try to gently explain what it’s like so others can get an idea what it’s like as the media is full of shit.

Even my Uncle was unaware but we had a catchup and got squared away.

I don’t get time to muck around and I am going to my own war instead of being a sook. Seen some other not really mates posting about it on social media and crying about it. I’m like well if you unplugged your head out of your arse and checked the weather you would know what is coming like I did. Oh too busy on a holiday. Oh well sucks to be you with a million dollar tractor you are still owing on as you won’t grow a fkn crop this year dickhead. That I can guarantee.

I’ve pre planned from last year. Looked at my options, found some alternatives. But I have to get rid of the sheep and can’t right now as they are giving birth and got the DND sign out. Simple as that.

I look after my stuff. Time to go to war.

Coming from a Farming family and Work background I can certainly understand the struggles, but can’t imagine how difficult it would be in these modern bullshit Government Overregulated times. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Most of our family got out of Farming back in the late 90’s-mid 2000’s, as the kids took off to the big smoke not wanting to carry on with that lifestyle, so wound up, sold up and retired.

Except for one Aunty and Uncle who started a big Cattle Finishing Feedlot down near Esperance and are doing VERY well!

They all had the hard work but heydays of farming from post WW2 all the way through, when you could actually do REALLY well from Livestock and Cropping.

The farmers I know these days are all struggling under all the different modern regulatory bullshit that they are having to learn and adapt to, but as you know, at least they have been having bumper crops the last few years and the Sheep/Cattle industry in WA seems to be doing it much better than elsewhere in Australia for the most part, mainly due to the environmental factors of decent rainfall and an abundance of cheap available feed.

WOOHOO :tada:

This is seriously fast shipping.
Fastest I’ve ever had since the Monkey Mod days getting parts to WA in under a week!

These were ordered 6-8th May and didn’t believe the estimated shipping dates at first as they were so quick, whereas most of the stuff I order takes over a month, sometimes 2 Months to reach here at the arse end of the world! :hushed:

Yea I know you got a fair idea.

Strange though was talking to a wool agent I’ve known for years and he said WA are mostly getting out of wool producing sheep. And I can see it on the emails I get of the weekly National Market Reports. As there is bugger all Merino wool being sold out of Fremantle sales. The micron is higher too which is normal when you get droughts as certain parts of WA has been in like where I am.

That is a direct result of Brandt and his cancellation deal he did with Labor of the live sheep export and crashed my market too as WA tried to send all their sheep here when we were and are still in drought. Happened on the day and I lost 10 grand. Wheres my help but nobody gives a fk about that. Should have returned no sale. That stock agent got sacked quick smart.

I got offered b doubles of WA sheep as they could not sell them. I couldn’t buy them as in drought, you need food and I am at max capacity due to conditions. For transport cost only. They ended up shooting them.

They can help out, but the Federal gov is just not doing it. I was in touch with the fkrs earlier today. Nope. So don’t believe the bullshit you see with Malanuskus spreading 55 million out because I know none of them have been paid. I know more farmers than he does.

Time to do what the EU/ france does and drive a 10t dump tuck down to parliment door steps and drop off sheep shit.

Doesen’t matter, I’ve got things figured out and will pull through. There is no magic solution. You have to manage things.

Fremantle West only does barely one day of wool sales while over this side does 2 days. The volume from WA has crashed since brandt forced the live sheep export in with no viable solution.

The regulations and bookwork. Fk me drunk, but oh well, I can knock it out the park then they are left going oh derr. The local store Nutrien Ag ladies help me out with supplies and knock it out the park as they are country. They’d make Squiddy quake in his pants , but good to get local, reliable help like that.

As I say, when the going gets tough the tough get going

See Fremantles yesterday wool sale. Nobody home.

Yup, Wool over here has been abandoned by most Farmers, only have the Ground Lice in the Paddocks purely for Meat purposes, which is why the Live Export Ban hit farmers fkn hard without an overseas income for meat sheep. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Plenty of Cropping to take their place, along with a struggling Cattle Industry, but at least its something to fall back on. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Man…glad I hung around to wait for the Courier before I came down to the Weir.
This Mad Flow Boat kicks arse! :raised_hands:

Top Hatch for the TYLOSAURUS turned up as well …

… but accidentally left it on the kitchen bench in my excitement to come down and get the new Mad Flow into the water.

Another beautiful sunny warm day with only light winds, so I hope it stays that way.

Fully sick that is awesome boat.

Yes I know WA has gone meat sheep mostly. Don’t understand ground lice never heard that term before. Mine are all treated regularly for lice. Cropping is no good my way been doing it for 2 decades and never make a cracker as inputs are too high for the return that has not changed for two decades. Was $130 per t of fertilizer when I started, today it is $1700 and the price of grain is still $300/t give or take a bit. Fuck that cropping BS. Not good business until they shift the price from 25 years ago. And I’ve spent thousands of hours boring around in tractors so I know. Even Case Steigers with 600hp six ltr fummins motors. Deere John.

Guess what my 50hrs of phone calls and bookwork paid off, after another 5 emails this afternoon the gov actually paid. Party time…err yea right

The wheatbelt croppers that are over your way and I know some have massive overheads and live on an overdraught to get it done. As long they make their monthly repayments to Bendigo bank they survive like me. Or they are 3rd, 4th, 5th generation born in to it which I am not. It’s not a better place to be farming, everywhere has it’s caveats.
