That’s what us Westralians call Sheep! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m so happy to hear that you finally got somewhere after spending all that time on the phone and emailing… hopefully can ease the pain enough to catch a bit of fresh air for a while. :crossed_fingers::hugs:

Typical Doc Bob… only just got this boat this afternoon, only ran 2 battery packs through it, and already tearing apart to modify with the aftermarket components that I had already ordered in preparation for this build! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Stock boat is supplied with a 30A ESC, 2800KV Brushless Outrunner Motor and can only handle 2S or 3S batteries, and a very limited maximum 40A burst current. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Don’t get me wrong, this thing hammers, but found the ESC cutting out under part throttle when using the good quality TURNIGY batteries, whereas the shit house “performance” OVONICS batteries would trip out the ESC even once under load at only half throttle because of their woeful voltage sag.

Hence why I already have the FLYCOLOR 50A ESC, which is 2S-6S capable, with an EASY continuous 50A load draw, but can also handle a 300A burst current for at least 10 seconds instead of the original Mad Flow 30A crapping it’s dacks immediately hitting 40A at part throttle with a decent quality battery. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

So anyrate, already stripped out a few parts and already planning out what bits are going to fit where, requiring some Marine Sikaflex to fill in the redundant holes in the Hull and some more Velcro to attach the aftermarket parts that I have to fit into this thing. :+1:

Won’t fit any of those aftermarket performance motors just yet, simply step up to 4S with the FLYCOLOR ESC and max out the factory motor to its limits!

Unfortunately is very difficult to fit wider batteries into the hull, so gonna have to chase up some OVONIC sized 4S batteries to suit.

That’s a beautiful looking Pillow Case isn’t it! :hushed::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I thought you might be doing something cheeky like that but in case you were talking about something I’m unaware of. :joy:

Can’t run cattle out my way, just different conditions. People have tried trust me and they end up at my place looking for water and food. Or they spend thousands on setting up the infrastructure to hold Cattle, feed them and still have a bonkers overdraught.

Thanks for the well wishes, it’s not much and has been an absolute headache like you going for your pension but worse. Believe me but I got there after applying in January. They don’t just give it away. PIRSA are understaffed and overwhelmed is the main problem.

Right @DocBob I’ll go shopping today and get one of those 2 stroke boats now   :+1:

That FLYCOLOR ESC has much better BEC rating too, 5.5v and 5A that will make your inputs much more snappy.

It also won’t send the ESC in to overload thermal shutdown which is a possibility with the 2A one you replaced.

More power Doc :joy: :+1:

Cheers mate, all done and just waiting for the batteries to charge. :sunglasses:

Removed the bulky and annoying Velcro straps/brackets on the RX and battery tie downs, replaced with Velcro strips on the Hull to hold everything in place, including the ESC.

Stole a couple of sections of silicone tubing off my housemates air pump for one of his fish tanks to be able to run the water cooling lines on the ESC. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Plugged in the Programme Card to set up the ESC parameters, did the initial WOT settings and tested everything out to make sure everything is happy before I go throwing it in the water. :+1:

Tried a 40mm Prop on it yesterday, but the stock ESC kept tripping anytime went past half throttle… so hopefully now with 4S/50A/300A burst power, the 40mm Prop might have a good chance of running.

Just gotta keep an eye on the battery/motor/ESC temps, as the bigger Props draw a fair bit of juice, even though they’re only slightly larger diameter than the stock 38mm Prop.

That’s why this was put in the kit from day one, and even swapping the TYLOSAURUS 40mm out to a smaller 38mm to initially run those OVONIC batteries to reduce the load on them, they went from stable temps in the first few runs to LAVA on during the last couple of minutes of runtime!:anguished:

My thoughts are with the smaller prop they will boost faster and draw more burst amperage.

But what do I know…nothing :joy: Haven’t even got water to put a boat in to LOL!

Larger props are harder to spin in the water, hence raising Amps and temperatures throughout the whole system compared to a smaller faster spinning prop.

What’s missing in this picture?
Why is the Rescue Kayak on the shore?
Why are my boots and arse wet?
So many questions!

The famous old adage… “If you upgrade one part of the system, you need to upgrade the lot”!!!

Flex shaft, prop and shaft bush now residing at the bottom of Davey Jones’s Locker. :face_exhaling:

First few runs on 3S were awesome, no cutouts and flying out of the water, then the very first run on 4S, it was a MADMAN! :raised_hands:

But the poor little 3mm flex cable obviously didn’t think so. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Oh well, was looking to get a 4mm cable anyrate, because all the performance props run the bigger cables anyways.

Might be time to invest a few few these cable savers as well.

Yes I’m not that dumb but a smaller one would peak quicker as the motor would turn faster. Why I said early on even with the crawlers waste of time cutting corners with cheap OE types of ESC’s and servos not working or handling the output or what you expect.

All trial and error :+1:

Nice day for a swim :joy:

Nice day for a paddle in the Kayak! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Tried using the ARROW to push the Mad Flow back to shore, but that long sleek bow design just kept wanting to run over the top of it!

So out with the Kayak and a bit of a splash in the water to clean my arse and boots at the same time.

Really liking the fact that these boats are nearly 10 years old and yet can still get parts for them everywhere, even here at a WA based Hobby Store. :raised_hands:

Yay! :tada:
Thanks to Sik Hobbies in Rockingham, now back home and the Mad Flow is set to go again. :raised_hands:

Much better cable, as has full diameter drive end, whereas the original cable was crimped down to a smaller diameter square drive, exactly the same as a Speedo drive cable in older vehicles… which is what caused it to disappear off the back of the motor in the first place.:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Kit comes with everything except the Prop, but luckily the boat came with a spare 36mm Prop to be able to finish the job, or else it was gonna have to try and survive with the larger high rake 40mm spare Prop until I could order another.

Much more confident with this cable though, as even had to spread the jaws on the motor cable mount to get it to slide in, so obviously much more clamping force than the original. :ok_hand:

Looking good might be another trial run at the drag strip soon by the looks :sunglasses:

Only got one run in today, as there’s this weird wet stuff falling from the Sky and I can’t remember what it is, as haven’t seen it in a bloody long time.

Had to be careful today though, as the big Black Ducks have their little fluffy bubs with them and are VERY aggressive bastards if you get too close! :hushed:

Wet stuff falling from the sky  got me baffled too  I haven’t experienced anything like that. Maybe it’s space debris falling

Well I’ll be buttered on both sides.

The Injora tyres and inners I ordered a week and half ago arrived today at my postal depot, wait for it…

Via Armarex and delivered when they notified they would. Phew

I don’t believe it!
I’ve read fairytales more believable than that! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Can’t wait to see 'em on the Rig. :raised_hands:

Got those silicon yellow soft inserts in a bundle. Keen to see how they go never played with silicon inserts before.

Seem to get good reports. See how they go in the desert out here :joy:

Yes that will definitely be interesting to hear what you reckon about them. :+1:

I’ve never tried them myself, as the standard supplied foams in the INJORA tyres were good enough for this little black duck!

A few sets of tyres I have even removed the foams completely, as they’re a different brand/type of tyre and couldn’t really see the need for them due to the different types of compound being a bit stiffer than the INJORA tyres.

Yea I dunno they offered a discount and thought bugger it chuck em in. Now they are going to be tested

No bloody rainforests and stuff out here!

Somehow managed a quick run on the Weir today between everything turning into a complete clusterfk with life in general… but that’s another Novel length few days in itself. :face_exhaling:

The Mad Flow actually survived through a full 4 sets of 4S batteries without any major loss or destruction.

Still had to launch the rescue Kayak as a particularly bad high speed tumble ripped the bodywork clean off the top of the hull!:hushed:

Luckily the design is much better than the UDIRC Hatches, and the top body section actually self rights and floats on its own. :raised_hands:

Bit worried about the Hull itself though, as the Tunnel Hull has absolutely ZERO flotation foam anywhere in the whole design.

Next step will be to fill the non-flooding Pontoon with some expandable foam to give it some hope of not finding a new permanent home at the bottom of the Weir. :disappointed_relieved:

Was a heart stopping moment today when the whole top flew off and was left with an open hull half full of water spraying out everywhere from the brushless motor acting as an unintentional high speed bilge pump whilst trying to get it back to shore!
:hushed:

New Hobby, whole new learning curve starting all over again from the bottom basics.

Hatch Tape is my newest best friend!

haha Oh right, errm did somebody sink the slipper in to it a bit heavy

It’s alright Doc I went and broke things today too. Booked my Doctors appointment to get repaired.

You’d use the throttle trim to tone it down. I have to on some of my land dwelling rc’s or they do backflips and destroy themselves. Nothing to do with the operator at all
