Offshoot RC Models/Drone Hobby Thread

Fkn amazing that I only ordered a big pile of stuff from several different sellers on AliExpress only a week ago, and yet they all combined my orders together in a single shipment that arrived today all at once!:open_mouth:

Plenty of bits to go through and start planning out each Helicopter build, but also bulk ordered 16 High Voltage fast response Stainless Steel Metal Geared Waterproof Servos not purposely required for the Helicopters, but figured that I need to modify all of my Float Planes to Waterproof Servos, so may as well just make a bulk order that will do both the Helicopters and Float Planes in one!

So also received the Digital Pitch Gauge to help with the proper Helicopter Main Rotor Blade/Flybar/Swashplate tuning, along with a couple more FLYSKY Receivers that I can bind to the Transmitters that I already own, along with a single GY500 Head Holding Gyro for the old Flybar White Beetle Bopter, whereas looking to convert the Red one to Flybar Less Rotor Head and then order a modern 3D Gyro to suit.

Amazing that can still get ALL of the parts required for such modifications on 20 year old Helicopters for basically under $50 delivered to my door, and they are all modern Alloy and Stainless, whereas an original old Black Nylon Flybar setup is almost double the price!

I’m used to Rabbit Holes, but this one gets so much deeper the further you look into it.:face_exhaling:

That generous old man that gave these to me is gonna have a lot to answer for!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Spending spiral alert…

wait, that’s just the main rotor…!!

The Rabbit Hole is the deepest I’ve ever seen throughout the whole Gelbaster/Rock Crawler/Speedboat/Aircraft Hobbies that I’ve navigated so far!

God help me when I inevitably get given a Drone or three!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Oh fuk you had to mention a drone didn’t you. Watch this space.

I was going to leave it for a bit. Still in planning phase. Funny thing is you’ll be buying it

I know that doesen’t make sence. Just bare with me. All good things come to those that wait. :+1:

The plot thickens!
Sounds like a Tax Dodge to me :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Was discussing Drones with my Sister just yesterday and both agreed that we don’t like them, especially when buzzing overhead when we are out camping or at a peaceful place out enjoying the serenity!

But were also discussing their usefulness when out the bush, being able to send up a Drone to scout track conditions, possible clearings for camp spots and spotting landmarks etc.

In essence, can be a handy tool to have onboard when out in remote areas, but they are fkn annoying in Public Spaces!

BTW… went through 18 battery packs yesterday with the Yellow Ranger and KINGFISHER as it was such a beautiful calm day, but the KINGFISHER Wing Struts kept popping apart and had to retire that one early.

Going to drill and screw the joints together for a permanent fix, as it’s a stupid factory design to have stressed components simply interference fitted to handle all of the lift applied to the wings!

On the bright side, over the last week’s worth of flying, I didn’t have to get the Emergency Rescue Kayak wet even once!

Yea some things have to align over a few months. I got offered from your lovely gov before and was against it as I don’t like wasting gov funding.

But I’m thinking seeing as fuel is twice the price if it’s available since I last bought it. And one of the officers suggested it. I said na fk that I don’t want to waste gov money.

Well how the PM has acted, I’m thinking fk yea go hard or go home, eyeing off $4k drones. They keep asking me as I have a 10k grant that runs for 10 years. Can’t get animal feed, fuel, fertilizer, rego, council rates, tyres, oil. Nothing, but they mentioned a drone. :man_shrugging:

I’m like what can I get then. Oh cool a toy and just blow it on shit. Lets go!

This gov is cooked  fun and games. Fkn crazy  :person_shrugging:

Sounds like standard Government operating procedures to me!

Same with the Government ā€œassistanceā€ we get offered after losing everything after every Bushfire that we have.

Sounds good to the Media and public reports that they are offering all this funding to ā€œhelpā€ the victims, BUT when it actually comes to the paperwork qualifications and regulations… it’s impossible for ANYONE to actually ā€œqualifyā€ for the Funding! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Looks good in the Public sphere, but amounts to absolutely zero help to the people who need it the most.

I don’t know what happens to all of this unclaimed money, maybe offered to Farmers to buy Drones instead?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

What assistance, my SA PM I didn’t vote for blew 77M dollars on nothing. Nobody got assistance.

I got some help with hay bails and couple fuel cards. Guess where they came from, private entities. I got directed by my states fellow trying to help me with the bumfuck nothing gov has done. Queensland farm angels another private entity sent me a grand of fuel and few other bits and bobs to help out.

They are legends as there was 500 other farmers in the same boat. I spoke to the ladies recently as they check up see how things going. I asked is this gov sponsered, nope we just need a photo as it’s all private entities. I was like you shitting me, where the fk has this 77M gone. Not here mate.

No one within coo ee meets the criteria to even get help. And it’s a slaughter fest on the bookwork side of things. Lucky I’m a bit savvy on that side of things.

For eg. We don’t know who you are. Umm I beg your pardon mss, I was born here and always been an australian citizen and I may have served my country. Nope. You don’t exist. Ok why am I paying your wages then. Oh oh I see you now sir.

They try challenge me all the time as I go into a 3rd year of drought. What is the plan. The Matrix, nobody home. Ridiculous.

Yeah isn’t it amazing that if you wrong the Government in ANY way shape or form, they can track you down on the other side of Mars and Fine you immediately without having any proof of who you are… and yet the second YOU apply for ANYTHING, nek minit they want your whole personal details, Tax File numbers, Banking history, ABN, Birth Certificates, Drivers Licence, Passport, Mother’s maiden name and the last time you had a shit before they acknowledge you as a real human being!:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Damn straight, I had to ring my farmer mate one day to talk to his wife that works at the local council.

This young bird over in mexico would not accept my birth certificate. She said no that’s a copy. I said no that is all you can get that I pay for a certified copy from the registries as you request.

I pulled the young lady up, said I can guarantee you have not got yours. Oh oh umm I can not accept it. Fine I’m bringing in the howizter. I suggest you duck.

Spoke to my mates mrs, boom crash sorted that young lady out by 10am next morning.

I said nothing rude, always polite. I think these operators they are just not taught properly so they do not know what they are doing.

Yeah something fishy went on with our Government a few years ago, whereas my original Birth Certificates from 1972 that was accepted my entire life as a legal document to allow me to do everything in life was suddenly NOT ACCEPTABLE!

I was forced to go to the closest major City Courthouse and pay $80 for an ā€œupdatedā€ Birth Certificate to be spat out of their Printer behind the desk!

NO Doctors Signatures, NO Rubber Stamp from the Regional Hospital I was born in, NO name and date of the Birth Registra of Western Australia… just a printed piece of paper that was now apparently the required Legal Document of my whole existence!

At the time I thought, ā€œokay it’s been a few decades, maybe they’re just updating to modern digital record keeping systemsā€.

But then low and behold, my Daughter born in 2004 faced the same issue when she came to me at 15 wanting to leave school and get a Job.

I took all the necessary steps to set up a Bank Account and TFN for her, but was told the exact same thing!

Somehow her Birth Certificate from 2004 was not valid in 2019 and had to travel to the City Courthouse once again to pay more money to get a ā€œlegitimateā€ Birth Certificate off their office printer!

There’s some strange shit going on and I’ve yet been able to figure out exactly what game they are playing at when it comes to people’s legal identities.

It’s always been the way. People think they are getting their og Birth certificate. But they never do. I had to do it in smellyaide at the office of registry.

You pay about what you said, and they stamp it as certified.

I can guarantee there is less than a dozen people that have their real birth certificate in australia. Because the Federal gov has always kept them locked up in your states registries.

You go to the registry, pay a few bucks and they do print you out a copy of your birth cert, then they stamp it and that is fully legal. Because that is all you can get. It has always been that way since WW2. Used to be free but now we have to pay a bit for it.

Might be different here WA?

Being born '72 in a small regional Hospital, my Birth Certificate is of Archive Quality paper, has been hand typed out, has actual pen on paper signatures from the required Signatories and ā€œRubber Stampā€ Certified marked.

The new ones my Daughter and I had to replace them with are just bits of A4 Paper fresh off the Colour Printer under the bench!

One of these that I hold served as my Original Certified Certificate for decades, the other looks like some fake ID that I downloaded off the internet and printed off at home.

The worse part is that when my Daughter was born, I paid extra for the ā€œUpgradedā€ Certificate for her, which IS made of Archive quality paper printed with a beautiful Australian Flora and Fauna background that had to be ordered and waited weeks to receive… which 15 years later was being told is no longer ā€œvalidā€ and basically worthless.:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Yep because they invented printers in the last 30 years to get away from that hand signed from the 70’s/80’s.

I’ll have a bit of a look. But that is all you can get now, Federal mandated across Australia. That’s how I got stuck with a Federal office person, they don’t even know themselves.

No it’s not, same you got to go the registrar Births, Deaths and marriages. And they print you out a copy, and stamp it. Full legal document. Perth for you, Federal building. I just looked it up.

I know as I got stuck. You won’t have your original I can guarantee. It is a certified copy of your original which they keep in that building.

Go here champ :+1:

10/141 St Georges Terrace - Google Maps

Oooo, dunno if I could get to Perth, would have to get my Passport out if I go any further North than Coolup!:open_mouth:

Well that’s the local joke around here anyrate!:joy:

Haha but that’s what you gotta do champ. I had to, they get you squared away. Trust me. Can’t do it at a post office.

Fire up the Patrol and burn gazillion ltrs of fuel that blabbermouth reckons he’s got.

I’m serious though, go there and they get you what you need. Good luck and godspeed :+1:

They also do a seal stamp that you can feel into your certificate so it’s fully done. They will check you, couple ole ducks Federal employee’s. Have your drivers licence as that is 100 points. I threw 20 bank cards and shit at them as well, oh no too much, drivers and fa licence does it.

You go that way @DocBob will fix your little bump in the road.

Few more bits arrived today.
My poor old Red Ranger Bush Basher destroyed all its struts and wing mounts, due to other parts failing and badly designed brittle hard white plastic components snapping off during flight.:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Will beef these up these new parts with Epoxy at the critical areas I have learnt that fail before fitting to the Aircraft in hope of giving it the best chance possible of actually holding together in normal Grandma flight manoeuvers let alone anything more ā€œspritedā€.

Have also modified my new Yellow Ranger to run the larger KINGFISHER 11" by 7 pitch Propeller over the standard 10" by 5 pitch Prop, purely because of the extra weight and drag of being fitted with Floats instead of the original Ground Aircraft that everything was designed for effortlessly rolling on wheels out of the box.

The second reason for this modification is that the RANGER originally comes with a ā€œlatch onā€ Prop Spinner that’s designed to ā€œpop offā€ if there’s a crash or Prop Strike to prevent damaging the whole system if new Pilots have an ā€œincidentā€ when learning to fly/land.

It’s a good system, but when you modify the Aircraft to take off and land on water, a simple little water spray will flex the Prop blades enough to ā€œunlatchā€ the Spinner, launching it into the murkey depths never to be seen again!

Obviously not an issue with a learner Pilot who pops off the Spinner where it falls onto the ground and can simply walk over and pick it up … but water bourne activities with both Aircraft and Speedboats adds a whole new dimension when it comes to being able to recover parts when things go wrong!:open_mouth:

I did fit internal flotation foam into those standard Spinners to save having to continually replace them, but it wears pretty thin when every takeoff and landing loses a Spinner and requires the Emergency Sea Rescue Kayak having to be deployed for such a simple and tiny part coming off and bobbing way out in the middle of the Weir.:face_exhaling:

So now I have customised the new Yellow RANGER to overcome all the weaknesses of the original Red crash test dummy by replacing with the 3 piece KINGFISHER Prop and threaded Spinner system.:ok_hand:

Fitting the bigger Prop is no issue, as I’ve already replaced the stock Ground Running 20A ESC with a 45A Speedboat ESC that is designed specifically for constant full Amperage to overcome constant water drag forces in a single Speedboat Hull, and is now having to power TWO Hulls dragging through the water and air at a constant rate.:open_mouth:

The last jobs on the list are to go through and replace all the stock plastic geared Ground Aircraft dry Servos with my newly acquired full metal geared Digital Programmable Stainless Steel Waterproof Servos on the RANGER’S/KINGFISHER/MAULE/HUSKY etc … but now having to figure out how I’m going to extend the Servo wires to the correct length to be able to fit them in place of the stock units that are about a foot longer!

I’m just happy that for parts costing less than $7 delivered to Western Australia within 10 days, that I can still easily access these simple components to be able to get the old $270 busted arse Red bush basher RANGER back into the air at this point before tackling all of the rest!:ok_hand:

I reckon I’ll just continue glueing and sticky taping this old girl back together, thrashing it as much as possible until there’s nothing left!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::heart:

I reckon I’ll come over and fix that situation for you permantely. Splat, bit cold, burn it.
