Yes, it’s quite the tradition in the RC Aircraft Hobby to have a ceremonial Funeral Pire to mark the end of an era at the crash site!
I thought the last major crash that occurred when coming out of a loop and the Elevator Servo failed completely, sending it lawn darting into the water at great speed from a great altitude had put an end to its days.
Because all the floats were destroyed, along with the large plastic landing gear mount block torn out of the fuselage, also the metal float struts all at the bottom of the Weir, I thought it was over with… not to mention the whole nosecone torn apart and bent upwards at a 90⁰ angle!
But then I remembered that I still had the original landing gear still in the box that had never been fitted and the rear mount plate was still intact… I simply glued/taped it all back together with what parts were left on it and converted it back into a ground Aircraft to live once again!
I still haven’t had time to even touch my PA-18 Super Cub that I binned out the box haha
I spent 2 days setting it all up correctly.
Got a reasonable day, hmm wind bit high. Cmon Mav gimme some of that pilot shit, tip stalled and splat.
Ok that was fun haha just been very windy my way recently. I’ll get around to it when I can get some free time.
Might try a drone in the coming months. Maybe, depends on few things already mentioned.
@DocBob have any luck or time with the birth cert thing? Don’t muck around, go direct to where I pointed. Nothing else works as I got stuck in same situation. Pain in arse as I had to quit working for 2 days to get mine done.
Thanks heaps for the advice mate, but my comments were in pretense, whereas I got mine and my Daughters sorted out as required afterwards a few years ago.
The funny story behind it is that we drove all the way to the Big Smoke Courthouse, parked up and walked through the doors straight into a bunch of security guards and a Metal Detector.
My Daughter went first no problem, then I went through and ALL the alarms and sirens went off!
They asked me what metal I had on me, which was the standard country issue steel capped boots and belt buckle.
They waved the hand wand over me and got pinged at my right hip.
They jokingly said “as long as you don’t have any knives or guns on you”.
I laughed with them and then I realised that I had my 4" blade fold out Pocket Knife in its scabbard on my belt!
I said to the security guards straight away that I did have a knife on my possession and they took an immediate defensive stance, but luckily they were happy to have me just hand it over and a security guard took it outside of the Courthouse and held onto it until I finished my business and exited the building.
My cheeky shit 15 year old Daughter was laughing at me once all of this drama was over and said “Dad, I took my knife off and left it in the glove box when we got out of the car.”!
Little scamp never reminded me to do the same and thought it was REAL funny watching Dad get busted by Security!
So yeah, that’s the boring story of getting our Birth Certificates sorted on the verge of me getting arrested bringing a Knife into a Courthouse.
Haha I kinda melted when my exs daughter said Mum give me a lift to my friends place.
Nope just got off shift and dead.
I piped in, what’s the problem here 15yo girl. Mum won’t give me a ride to my friends place. Ok I can fix that, ring me when you want pick up.
One condition, Hold on as we are warp 9 engage. Strap in. She was giggling her head off. She was really good, bought her presents and stuff took her to farm fair helicopter ride the whole 9 yards.
She looked at me one day I’ve never had a Dad. I melted. I’m not not your true Dad because of your stupid Mother, but focus on the now and I am your friend and will always give you anything you need. Except drugs. Got slapped with a hug. But oh well that’s all gone now, Mum disappeared. Oh well did my best. Haven’t heard for a decade now. Sam looked similar.
Must be other factors if you have to go to court that is above my pay grade. As you do not hve to do that unless there is some marital issues.
At least these are actually sold with both the battery leads/plugs and motor connectors already fitted, whereas all my previous Float Plane/Speedboat waterproof/water cooled ESC’s require soldering your own battery connectors/motor plugs.
Big boost in performance with the Helicopter ESC’s and getting higher voltage Servos to match so that they all run on 7.4V 4-8A power instead of the standard 4- 6V @ 4A that’s common in the industry.
Laughing at the fact that I had to move the Gelbasters to reshuffle the Aircraft to make room for the Helicopters!
(Gelbaster gives an indication of scales!)
Funny enough that my housemate got sick and tired of listening to me swearing my tits off @RokSolid style trying to use my basic faithful 15 year old busted arse “helping hands” soldering setup that had broken one Alligator clip rendering it pretty much fkn useless,
Not only now have two fully functioning alligator clips, but also an LED backlit magnifying glass and Iron holder to boot!
He’s at peace now, able to sit on the lounge with his headphones and microphone playing his online gaming without me interrupting by swearing like a Sailor in the background.
Worth every cent he reckons, obviously more for his own sanity rather than mine!
I got given one of these a while back. Comes in very handy when you’re poking a soldering iron around in a Gibson guitar control cavity, I can tell ya…
Got plenty done on the Red beetle bopter today.
Swapped out the old Servos with the new units, replaced all the brittle plastic servo arms and sussed out a good spot for the ESC to mount.
Unfortunately had to get out the Pencil Grinder and get a bit creative with the mounting of the front 2 Servos though, as were slightly deeper and larger than the original units, necessitating a bit of bush mechanics to come up with a suitable mounting setup… hence the white Aluminium dust and swarf over everything!
Swapped the original positions with one of the Servos and all the electronics though, as previously was way out of balance in the airframe with lopsided weights both side to side as well as fore and aft.
Everything should be balanced as good as I can get it by also concentrating the majority of the weight inline with the Rotor shaft where possible.
Just waiting on a Swashplate Setting Tool and a Servo Programmer before connecting the TX, zeroing the Servos and setting up all the throws and control linkages.
The old fella might get quite a shock on how well it flies once everything is tuned to the way it should be!
I was quite impressed. See it’s gone up $9 since I last bought it few months ago. But I use for business too so worth it to me. Might as well share a link for those interested.
The light is awesome and USB powered. So can just plug a USB pack in and do midnight repairs in middle of no where. I try refrain from such things but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to keep the wheels turning.
Plenty of rerouting, heat shrinking and still haven’t finished yet as waiting on a few more parts before I can completely tidy everything up for the final result.
Going to have the same good fun when it comes to tidying up the rats nest on the older White plastic/nylon model as well, which is why I’m purchasing 2 of everything so I have enough parts to rebuild them both.
Haven’t got my Digital Servo Programmer yet, but just thought I’d set all the Servo arms to the required 90⁰ and check how close the original setup was…,… and yeah, pretty fkn terrible!
No wonder that the old fella had every single Trim adjustment on the Transmitter maxed out, where this would have been pulling hard right and in reverse gear just getting off the ground when you look at that Swashplate angle!
Will wait until I get the rest of the proper specific tools delivered to fully set up this thing perfectly before I even attempt to plug in a battery.
I might be a fussy bastard, but getting the mechanical components as near to perfect as possible is the ONLY way to achieve great end results when building anything, especially when it comes to Aircraft, because you don’t get any second chances once they leave the ground!
