Getting shearers to shear can be a problem, I understand that, but get your sheep shearable, I challenge anyone to shear 250 in 2 hours. I can’t do it I know, why I pay the guy his slightly above award rate to do the job and have everything he needs to do a shearing. Clean, neat tidy, and everything all good. You pay for a service.
Oh and don’t do what a couple farmers did, roll up to the shearing shed, not a fucking sheep in sight, old mate forgot what day it was. Boss was not happy Jan that day haha

Yes x breds grow and stack on meat quicker than Merinos. But they have no wool and the bit some of them have is not paying the $22/kg Merino wool is currently paying. X bred wool is worth nothing. Merino wool is and when you cut 3-5kg of wool per head. One shear that sheep just paid for everything. Do the maths. Took me awhile but I’m where I wanted to be.

I did a test with one of my friends parents as they had a little hobby farm and half dozen x breds. One easter we were on the river I brought some of mine along for the BBQ. They asked what are they. I said try first then tell me. Mmm yum these are awesome are they x bred. Nope that is 2yo Merino. They were taken a back a bit. Some of the meat in colesworth I look at, labelled as lamb loin chops, no it’s not as a lamb is 12 months and younger there is no fucking way any can be that big the mum will split in half. Be 2-5yo sheep, not a fkn lamb are tiny. Rip off cunts.
